Iris laevigata Fisch., is restricted geographically in Manipur, north eastern India. An experiment was planned with Factorial Randomized Block Design during 2018 to 2020 (3 seasons) in the study plots of ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre, Lamphelpat. The study encompasses on the growth and development of I. laevigata seedlings collected from Ipa Thoukok Complex: influenced by spacing, trimming and correlations amongst the growth parameters, so as to validate the most favourable conservation method for this endangered plant. Among the treatments, T6 = S2T3 (45 cm × trimming 40 DAT) was found the best treatment. T9 = S3T3 (60 cm × trimming 40 DAT) was second, T3 = S1T3 (30 cm × trimming 40 DAT) was the third and lowest was found in case of T1 = S1T1 (30 cm × 0 trimming, i.e., without trimming). Strong positive correlation between leaf surface area and plant height on the growth and development was found to be effective among other correlations.

Effect of nitrogen and bio-fertilizer on growth and productivity of hybrid rice (cv. PHB 71) was assessed during dry seasons of 2017 and 2018 at Research Farm of BCKV under new alluvial zone of West Bengal. The experiment was laid out in factorial randomized block design with 12 treatment combinations having 4 levels of N and 3 types of bio-fertilizer replicated thrice. Application at 180 kg N/ha produced tallest plants at 90 DAT with maximum LAI (60 DAT), DMA (90 DAT), tillers/hill (90 DAT) and CGR (30-60 & 60-90 DAT). The same N rate resulted in highest panicles/m2, panicle length, panicle weight, filled grains/panicle and 1000-grain weight. A decrease in N dose from 180 to 150 kg/ha caused reduction in all those yield components; however, the variation was non-significant except for number of panicles/m2. Maximum grain yield, straw yield and harvest index was also achieved with 180 kg N/ha accounting 120.1, 34.9 and 32.8% more than the values obtained with zero-N; however, it was statistically at par with the yields and HI obtained with 150 kg N/ha. The Azospirillum application increased all the growth parameters, yield components and yield of hybrid rice over other tested bio-fertilizers (Azospirillum > PSB > K mobilizer), accounting 5.9 and 8.8% more than the yields obtained with PSB and K mobilizer. The interaction of N and bio-fertilizer exerted significant effect on growth attributes but failed to record any significant variations in yield components and yield of hybrid rice. The maximum economic benefit was achieved with combined application of 180 kg N/ha and Azospirillum.

A study was conducted to assess the effect of drip irrigation and plastic mulch on growth and seed yield of Semialata. Two types of plastic mulch (green and silver/black) were tested at three levels of irrigation (120%, 100% and 80%) by drip irrigation and one level (100%) by furrow irrigation. The daily water requirement of Semialata was estimated by the equation ETcrop= ETox crop factor. ETcrop is crop water requirement mm/day. ETo (reference evapotranspiration, mm/day) was calculated by FAO calculator which uses temperature and humidity data. In this experiments there were twelve treatments were considered. The treatments were replicated thrice. The experiment was laid in randomized block design. It was observed that drip irrigation with or without plastic mulch is yielding better results in terms of growth parameters and seed yield as compared to furrow irrigation without plastic mulch. It was also observed that maximum suppression (67.58%) of weeds resulted with drip irrigation and silver/black plastic mulch at 80% level of irrigation.

Zucchini (Cucurbita pepo L.) is a horticultural crop of great socioeconomic importance in Brazil and in the world. However, inappropriate fertilization management, such as over-fertilization of soils, may become a limiting factor for its development. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the morpho-physiological behavior of zucchini submitted to nitrogen (N) doses applied via soil and foliar application of silicon (Si). The treatments were distributed in split-plot scheme in a randomized block design, with three replications. The plot was formed by silicon levels (0.0 and 6.0 g plant-1) and the subplots constituted by five nitrogen levels (30, 60, 90, 120 and 150 kg ha-1), adding up to 30 experimental units. Gas exchanges and growth parameters were assessed at 35 days after planting. The data were submitted to analysis of variance by the F test and in the cases of significance was performed a polynomial regression analysis for the nitrogen factor and Tukey test for the silicon factor. The supply of Si positively enhances the effects of N on growth characteristics and gas exchanges of zucchini. The simultaneous application of Si and N does not influence the leaf area of zucchini. The N dose of 93.9 kg ha-1 provides greater assimilation of CO2 in zucchini plants under the conditions in which the experiment was performed.

5 aksesi jahe putih kecil, yaitu (1) Ziof 0004, (2) Ziof 0007, (3) Ziof 0008,
(4) Ziof 0013, dan (5) Ziof 0014, dan faktor II adalah dosis pupuk, yaitu
(a) 50% dosis anjuran (200 kg/ha urea + 150 kg/ha SP-36 + 150 kg/ha
KCl), (b) 75% dosis anjuran (300 kg/ha urea + 225 kg/ha SP-36 + 225
kg/ha KCl), dan (c) dosis anjuran (400 kg/ha urea + 300 kg/ha SP-36 +
300 kg/ha KCl). Masing-masing perlakuan diberi pupuk kandang sebagai
pupuk dasar dengan dosis 20 t/ha. Pengamatan dilakukan terhadap
parameter pertumbuhan (tinggi tanaman, jumlah anakan, diameter batang,
Pengurangan
produksi

ABSTRACT
Response of five accessions of small white ginger to
fertilizers
The use of ginger varieties responsive to low fertilization dosages,
is expected to increase fertilizer use efficiency and reduce environmental
pollution. Research aimed at observing response of five small white ginger
accessions of low-dosage fertilization has been conducted in the Cimanggu
Experimental Station in from August 2009 through May 2010. Five small
white ginger accessions from marginal areas were planted in polybags.
The experiment was and arranged using a randomized block design was
repeated with 3 times replications. Each treatment consisted of 20 plants.
Two treatments were tested factorially, where factor I : 5 small white
ginger accessions, namely (1) Ziof 0004, (2) Ziof 0007, (3) Ziof 0008, (4)
Ziof 0013, and (5) Ziof 0014, and factor II : 3 fertilization dosages is
dosage of fertilizer, namely (a) 50% recommendation dosage (200 kg urea
+ 150 kg SP-36 + 150 kg KCl per hectare), (b) 75% recommendation
dosage (300 kg urea + 225 kg SP-36 + 225 kg KCl per hectare), and (c)
recommendation dosage (400 kg Urea + 300 kg SP-36 + 300 kg KCl per
hectare). Each treatment was given 20 t/ha of manure as basal fertilizer.
The parameters observed were growth parameters (plant height, number of
tillers, stem diameter, and number of leaves), yield and nutrient uptake of
N, P, and K at 4 and 9 months after planting (MAP). The results showed
that each of the accessions responded differently to the reduction of
fertilizer dosages, either in vegetative or generative growth phase of ginger
plants. Reduction of fertilizer dosages to 25% did not significantly reduce
the yield of ginger, however, fertilizer dosages reduction up to 50% of the
recommended dosages led to significant decrease of ginger yield.
Compositions of N, P, and K nutrients absorbed by plants were different in
every phase of plant growth.
Keywords : Accessions, Zingiber officinale, fertilizer, growth, yield

Hamdan, R.S., I.D. Ismail and I. Akel. 2021. Effect of Tomato Yellow Leaf Curl Virus Infection on Some Growth Indicators of Pepper Hybrids Grown Under Plastic House Conditions in Lattakia Governorate, Syria. Arab Journal of Plant Protection, 39(4): 309-316. https://doi.org/10.22268/AJPP-39.4.309316 This study aimed to evaluate the effect of Tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV) infection on some growth parameters of several pepper hybrids grown under protected cultivation along the Syrian coast. Four pepper hybrids (Capsicum annum) were tested, two hot (Lahab, Sirad) and two sweet (Nevada, Dallas) peppers. The research was carried out during the 2020-2021 growing season in a plastic house at the Agriculture Scientific Research Center in Lattakia, using a randomized complete block design, with 8 treatments, three replicates and 5 plants per replicate. The results obtained showed that the sweet pepper hybrids (Nevada, Dallas) were more sensitive to infection with Tomato yellow leaf curl virus than the hot pepper hybrids (Lahab, Sirad), without significant differences among them. The pepper hybrid Nevada did not show any apparent symptoms, and the effect of the virus on some growth parameters (number flowers, flower setting, and the leaf surface area) was evident in comparison with other hybrids, but the differences were not significant. The Dallas, Sirad and Lahab pepper hybrids showed visible symptoms in response to infection with infection rate of 93.33%, 80% and 80%, respectively. The effect of virus infection on the growth parameters of these hybrids was variable. The reduction in the flowers number of Nevada, Dallas, Cirad and Lahab after 45 days of infection was 33%, 31.10%, 10.23% and 5.07%, respectively, and also with a reduction in the number of flowers setting of 77.39%, 20.87%, 23.33% and 66.68%, respectively. The same was true for the leaf surface area, where reduction rate for the Nevada, Dallas, Sirad and Lahab hybrids 30 days after infection was 48.17%, 53.06%, 16.45% and 36.6%, respectively. Keywords: Tomato yellow leaf curl virus, pepper hybrids, growth parameter, host resistance, protected agriculture.

Chili (Capsicum annum L) was one of the vegetable commodities that have a significant economic value. Farmland narrowed due to land conversion led to a shift of fertile agricultural lands into marginal lands such as saline land. This research aimed to determine respond of chili plant growth to salinity stress in Inceptisols. The experiment was conducted in August-October 2020 with located at Ciparanje Experimental field of Faculty of Agriculture, Padjadjaran University, Jatinangor District, Sumedang Regency. This research used randomized block design using four level treatment of NaCl concentration: 0 dS/m (a0), 2 dS/m (a1), 4 dS/m (a2), and 6 dS/m (a3). The result showed that there was no significant between treatment soil salinization of plant growth parameters like plant height and shoot root ratio but significant of number of leaves at 7 day after plant and canopy width at 28 day after plant on treatment salinization 6 dS/m.

An experiment consisting of four phosphorus levels (0, 40, 60 and 80 kg/ha P2O5) and five zinc levels (0, 10, 20, 30 and 40 kg/ha ZnSO4) was laid out in randomized block design in factorial mode to find out the effect on yield and quality of fodder cowpea [Vigna Unguiculata (L.)Walp.]. Growth parameters viz. plant height, number of leaves, number of branches, leaf length, leaf width and leaf stem ratio were improved with the application of 60 kg/ha P2O5 and 20 kg/ha ZnSO4. Application of 60 kg/ha phosphorus recorded 27.64 t/ha yield, which was 7.50 and 55.6 % higher than 40 kg/ha and no phosphorus application, respectively. Application of zinc in the form of ZnSO4 @ 20 kg/ha increased significantly the green fodder yield (25.89 t/ha). Interaction effect of phosphorus and zinc application was found significant with respect to green fodder, dry matter yield and nutrient uptake. Yield, phosphorus and zinc uptake in cowpea fodder were showing declining trend at combination of application rate more than 60 kg/ha P2O5 and 20 kg/ha ZnSO4.

This study aimed at determining the effect of a variety of plants arrangements on foliar growth and development as well as the productive potential in soybean. The field experiments were performed over two agricultural years (2015/16 and 2016/17) on Argisoil in subtropical environment. The two selected cultivars, viz., BMX Tornado RR and FPS Urano RR were sown in four spatial distribution of the plants such as conventional spacing (0.45 m spacing between rows), reduced spacing (0.225 m spacing between rows), paired spacing (two rows with 0.225 m and 0.45 m spacing from the other rows) and crossed spacing (0.45 m spacing between the rows with crosses of two rows, at a 90° angle). The randomized block design was adopted for the experiments with the treatments in a 2x4 factorial distribution and four replications. The first factor was the cultivar and the second types of plant distribution. The results showed that plant arrangement affected the plant profile regarding the behavior of the ecophysiological variables like plastochron, leaf lifetime and yield distribution. Leaf life in each stratum was caused by the foliar senescence rhythm, explained by a 4th degree polynomial model, revealing two peaks in the senescence rate, one during pre-flowering stage and the other when the grain filling stage was completed. According to the results, we do not recommend changes in conventional spacing.

Imperata weeds are very difficult to control. It is because the weeds have ability to regenerate rapidly through the stolon and seed. Weed control in principle is an effort to increase the competitiveness of basic crops and weaken the competitiveness of weeds. The use of glyphosate herbicide can be mixed with other ingredients; one of them is urea fertilizer. This study aims to reveal whether the mixture of glyphosate herbicide and urea fertilizer at several doses can suppress weed growth. This study used Randomized Block Design factorial pattern, with two factors: (1) dose factor of glyphosate (G); G0 (control), G1 (glyphosate 100 ml liter), and G2 (200 ml liters of glyphosate). (2) urea fertilizer (P); P0 (control), P1 (urea 400 gram), and P2 (urea 600 gram). The results showed that the mixture of glyphosate herbicide and urea fertilizer can suppress the growth and development of imperata weeds. The best treatment was found in a mixture of 200 ml of glyphosate herbicide and urea fertilizer at a dose of 600 grams, while the lowest treatment was found in the control
