The objective of the study was to evaluate the area of Information Technology (IT), of a great Brazilian state bank, related to the strategic planning of the institution. The descriptive research, with quantitative method, was executed by means of structured questionnaire. The citizens selected for this research were the professionals who hold positions of management, coordination, analysis business-oriented and analysis of systems of the studied bank. The collected data were processed by statistical techniques, with the application of SPSS V13. The results demonstrate the understanding that the staff of the IT company has in relation to the business policies and the strategies of the institutional administration. The results show, among other things, the strategic alignment of IT and technology strategies as factors that define the role of the area of IT to the business of the institution.

The concept of strategic alignment is more than two decades old (McLean and Soden, 1977; IBM, 1981; Earl, 1983; Mills, 1986; Brancheau and Wetherbe, 1987; Parker and Benson, 1988; Henderson and Venkatraman, 1990; Dixon and John, 1991; Niederman, et. al., 1991; Watson and Brancheau, 1991; Liebs, 1992; Luftman, Lewis and Oldach, 1993; Goff, 1993), however it has never been more timely than in today’s fast-paced, dynamic business environment (Papp, 1998; Rogers, 1997). The original alignment model was a largely theoretical construct that studied only a single industry (Henderson & Venkatraman, 1990; Henderson & Thomas, 1992) but has since been adapted for use by virtually any industry looking to integrate their business strategies with their information technology strategies (Papp, 1995; Luftman, Papp, & Brier, 1995).

Automotive sales industries and businesses are businesses that have a great contribution to economic growth in the country.  Competition in the automotive sales business is also getting higher so it requires the need for the right business strategy to survive and grow. Most of these automotive businesses have utilized Information Technology (IT) to support their operations. However, the capability in planning, managing and implementing Information Systems and Information Technology (SI/IT) that is linked to the company's business strategy has not been fully implemented. Therefore, Strategic Planning of Information Systems is currently one of the keys in achieving the company's goals that must be aligned with the business strategy set by the company. The role of SI/IT should not only be an operational automation tool but more than that as an organizational key enabler.  The study was conducted for modeling SI/IT strategy plan based on Hyundai's business strategy using Ward & Peppard methodology, analysis with SWOT, Value Chain, Five Force which then mapped into Critical Succes Factor to obtain possible SI/IT strategies.   Keywords: Strategic Planning, Balanced Scorecard, Automotive Industry   Abstrak   Industri dan bisnis penjualan otomotif merupakan bisnis yang memiliki kontribusi besar terhadap pertumbuhan ekonomi di negeri ini.  Persaingan pada bisnis penjualan otomotif juga makin tinggi sehingga membutuhkan kebutuhan strategi bisnis yang tepat untuk bertahan dan tumbuh berkembang. Sebagian besar bisnis otomotif ini telah memanfaatkan Teknologi Informasi (TI) untuk menunjang operasionalnya. Namun kemampuan dalam perencanaan, pengelolaan serta implementasi Sistem Informasi dan Teknologi Informasi (SI/TI) yang dihubungkan dengan strategi bisnis perusahaan masih belum diterapkan sepenuhnya. Untuk itu Perencanaan Strategis Sistem Informasi saat ini merupakan salah satu kunci dalam pencapaian sasaran perusahaan yang harus diselaraskan dengan strategi bisnis yang ditetapkan oleh perusahaan. Peranan SI/TI yang ada sebaiknya tidak hanya sebagai alat otomasi operasional namun lebih dari itu sebagai key enabler organisasi.  Kajian yang dilakukan untuk pemodelan rencana strategi SI/TI berdasar strategi bisnis Hyundai dengan menggunakan metodologi Ward & Peppard, analisis dengan SWOT, Value Chain, Five Force yang kemudian dipetakan ke dalam Critical Succes Factor untuk mendapatkan strategi-strategi SI/TI yang memungkinkan. The role of information systems and information technology is indispensable in a variety of fields of work and human resources required to have good quality so it could use the technology appropriately. The library is space that contained a lot of catalogs needed for learning and teachingas media seek knowledge and insight for students and lecturer, then the required information system that can hold all the information about then added data quickly and accurately. Therefore, the library shoidbeable to capitaliz on the presence of information technology to improve the quality of its services. It takes a strategic planning of information systems/information technology that isusedas the basis for the construction of an idea information system and in accordance with user needs.Strategic planning of information systems at the Library STMIK Palangka Raya using the methodology Wardand Peppard (Ward, 2002). With the strategic planning of the library can analyze and evaluate theexisting potential of the entire surroundings of the library in order to develop them selves in accordance with the progress of informationand communication technology as well as libraries have a guide in theform of strategies that should be run in the field of informationtechnolog y to improve its performance.It has a good performance of the library will be able to provide acompetitive advantage for the Organization so that it can continue tocompete in today's global era.

This study aims at measuring the impact of organisational memory (OM) on competitive strategies in information technology (IT) companies in King Hussein Business Park (KHBP) in Amman, the capital of Jordan. KHBP comprises of 20 companies, which will form the research population. A random sample was chosen with the sampling unit constituting of 63 out of originally 74 senior employees. The study adopted a descriptive analytical approach and a structured questionnaire was used as a study tool for the purpose of measuring the variables of the study. The outcomes of the study show that OM and its processes (knowledge acquisition, retention, and retrieval) have an impact on both types of competitive strategies (differentiation and lower cost strategies) in Jordan's IT companies. The study presented key recommendations such as: enhancing the role of OM in IT companies given its clear impact on competitive strategies; carrying out additional studies on OM to look deeper into its dimensions, processes, justifications, hindrances, and strategies.

Particularly, e-commerce and e-business have been highlighted among IT applications (Porter, 2001). Two basic points of view can be used for understanding the role of IT: the acquisition of a competitive advantage at the value chain and the creation and enhancement of core competencies (Porter & Millar, 1985; Duhan et al., 2001).

Answering the need of non-formal education or courses that reach all levels of society in the field of information and communication technology (ICT), the Government of Surabaya through the Department of Communications and Information Technology has developed Broadband Learning Center (BLC). BLC plays significant role in community development Surabaya since they provide media for public to choose training program which they can register independently or in groups training for free. This study aims to describe the framework in BLC as the implementation of e-governance performed by Government of Surabaya and to explore the role of BLC in community development process in achieving e-governance. The method used by researcher is qualitative approach with descriptive research type, focusing on Department of Communications and Information Technology, BLC Rumah Bahasa, BLC Taman Prestasi and BLC Taman Flora. This research reveals that BLC is facilitated with openness service to IT and various courses to enhance capacity and capability to utilize computer, and to increase public participation in using IT based program.

This study aimed to identify the role of Reengineering with its requirements (leadership, administrative policies, strategic planning, employee empowerment, information technology, organizational structure, financial capabilities and organizational culture) in the simplification of administrative procedures from the perspective of female administrative staff at King Abdul Aziz University in Jeddah. The study is based on a descriptive analytical approach. It consists of two main parts: a theoretical section that reviews the main findings of different sources, and a field section based on a questionnaire containing (50) paragraphs. The study population consists of (1469) administrative staff at the university, the sample of the study consists of (265) administrative staff, and the data were processed statistically using the statistical package of social sciences (SPSS). The study showed several results, the most important of which were: A strong positive impact on the role of Reengineering in simplifying the administrative procedures at the University, and showed that the requirements of Reengineering represented by Information Technology, organizational structure and strategic planning are the highest availability in the work environment at the university, followed by administrative policies, leadership, organizational culture, employee empowerment and, finally, financial capabilities. The study has made several recommendations, the most important of which are: Reengineering requirements in all its dimensions at the university, and the need to establish the foundations and methods to simplify the administrative procedures, and performing comparative studies between public and private universities on the level of readiness of the educational sector and obstacles to apply reengineering and the construction of a proposed scenario of reengineering at King Abdul Aziz University in Jeddah.

ResumoNeste estudo objetivou-se analisar a aprendizagem empreendedora dos gestores de Tecnologia da Informação (TI) da região metropolitana de Fortaleza, CE. Foi adotado o modelo de Politis (2005). Usou-se o método qualitativo de natureza descritiva. Para a sua execução, foi realizada entrevista com 10 gestores de TI, com apoio de um questionário semiestruturado. Para tratamento dos dados, utilizou-se o método de Análise de Conteúdo de natureza temática. Os resultados da pesquisa mostraram que a aprendizagem empreendedora tem papel de meio, contínuo e experiencial na formação em negócios do gestor de TI, isso porque as experiências prévias em negócios foram sendo aprimoradas no modo contínuo de novas experiências empresariais, nos seus primeiros empreendimentos, trabalhando nestes e, em seguida, nos de terceiros. Os dois modos de transformação de experiências de carreira empreendedora, tanto o exploitation (conhecimentos preexistentes) quanto o exploration (novas possibilidades) influenciam e aprimoram o desenvolvimento dos conhecimentos em negócios do gestor de TI.Palavras-chave: Aprendizagem empreendedora. Politis model was adopted (2005). The research used the qualitative method of descriptive nature. For its implementation, an interview was held with ten Information Technology managers, supported by a semi-structured questionnaire. For processing the data, we used the content analysis method of thematic nature. The survey results showed that Entrepreneurial Learning has role of medium, continuous and experiential in the training in IT business manager, because previous experiences in business, were being improved continuously in new business experiences, both in their early projects, working on these and, then, in the third ones. The two ways of transforming entrepreneurial career experiences, both the exploitation (foreground) and the exploration (new opportunities) influence and enhance the development of knowledge in the IT business manager.Keywords: Entrepreneurial learning. The role of information technology is very important for the progress of a company, by using information technology, strategic planning for the company's development will be better, some companies will definitely take advantage of information technology for the progress of their companies, this is also used for Toko baju Surabaya cabang Surakarta. This shop is a company engaged in the sale of clothing, this company uses the SmartConsole application to support sales. However, there are still sectors in this company that have not implemented an information system, one of which is in the section on stock data collection and payroll. Therefore, an appropriate IS / IT strategic planning is needed. This research was conducted using the Ward and Peppard method with SWOT analysis, Five Forces Porter, and McFarlan Strategic Grid. The output produced from this study is in the form of strategic recommendations from the results of the internal and external environmental analysis of the company's information system, as well as a proposal for an Information System to be mapped using the McFarlan Strategic Grid to be applied to companies in the next two years.

This chapter presents an approach to the strategic role of information and information technology in enterprises through alignment with organizational strategic planning and the contribution in building organizational resilience. It is important for companies to realize the deployment of strategic planning through organizational strategic planning of information and information technology, with the aim of identifying information needs, actions and solutions that will contribute to the monitoring and tracking of defined strategic objectives, and also in building organizational resilience. The chapter also discusses the contribution of information technology to the information systems of companies, through the resources and solutions currently available, such as business management systems - ERP, Sales Force Automation - SFA, Business Intelligence - BI and calculating the need for productive resources - MRPII. The research method is a survey conducted in firms located in an industrial Brazilian shoe industry. This study develops a framework for the analysis and deployment of strategic planning on organizational strategic planning information and information technology.
