During French colony in Vietnam, the French had immersed and modified their technical and decorational standards to suit the Vietnamese traditional architecture and tropical climate. This evidently proved that was not suitable, and it had a reversed impact by the Vietnamese one. During that time, there was a cultural and architectural influence between Asia and Europe. Hernest Hébrard was the developer, architect, and planner of Indochinese architecture, had been credited for the parallel influence. There were buildings that were designed and built based on the Indochinese architecture, have been preserved and treated as architectural heritage by local government in Ha Noi. This article does not only discuss the interaction of French and Vietnamese architecture reflecting by the Indochinese one, but also analyzes the developing process, the compatibility, and the developmental initiation.

Abstract: Thermal in buildings are always interesting to discuss, especially in tropical climate countries, more in related to the traditional architecture that many are around us today. This study aims to present the actual information related to the thermal comfort of traditional buildings in current conditions. This research tries to prove public opinion which still believes that traditional buildings are always comfortable and able to survive with the existing climate conditions. The method used is literature review on the results of research in journals that discuss the thermal comfort of traditional buildings in Indonesia. Some previous studies have claimed that traditional architecture has been design in such a way as to compromise climate conditions. However, recent research trends show that traditional architecture is no longer able to maintain thermal comfort, so design intervention is absolutely necessary. Thermal discomfort is influenced by tropical climate pressures that tend to be very hot, changes in the environment, buidling system, materials, design, and orientation of the building.

Abstract. In the age of globalization, it becomes necessary to assess the possibilities for the conservation of the characteristic identity features of vernacular architectural heritage. The changes undergone in traditional dwellings appear to be on different scales in societies that are considered developed, and in those that are developing, while the idea of development itself can be the main precursor to change. A study underway aims to identify the nature of the transformations occurring both in traditional architecture and in the society that builds it through case studies and to determine the influence of the concept of “development” in these changes, spotting the potential role of cooperation in the conservation of vernacular architectural heritage and its capacity for sustainability. The analysis of the first case study, the village of Baasneere (Burkina Faso), has made it possible to implement a methodology based on the review of literature, quantitative and qualitative research techniques and the use of three types of cataloguing fiches on three aspects (urban, typological, constructive) of dwellings under study. Although it needs to be adapted to the specific characteristics of the new case studies, the methodology proposed has been proven valid in the study of vernacular settings and their transformations and is also expected to be of use in establishing comparisons between different contexts.

A correlation between Chinese traditional architecture and cultural concepts has been established to analyze the formalization of architectural and urban patterns in relation to environmental features. In this regard, we have discussed the process of standardization from architectural elements or modules related in different levels of composition and articulated around empty spaces following ancient cosmic concepts to achieve harmony with nature. The conclusions show that Chinese architectural patterns can only be understood in relation to nature, and in turn have profound environmental values from which lessons can be learned to advance towards a more sustainable architecture.

Abstract In-between spaces have the duty of separating other space by putting a distance between them, facilitating spatial identification and specification along with creating consequent spaces which gradually lead passers from public environment to more private sections. Designing such spaces was considered a necessity with significant importance in the architecture of Iranian Traditional Housing. Therefore, regarding the importance of the issue under study, the goal is to discover strategies applied in Iranian Traditional Houses by benefiting from the data gathered through a survey carried out on 50 respondents and technicians in the field of Iranian Traditional Architecture. To do so, EFA was utilized to specify factors creating by in between spaces in traditional houses. The result revealed that elements of continuity, hierarchy and spatial organization are the most evident factors in the architect of Iranian Traditional Houses and as the statistic showed that the highest level variance belonged to spatial organization.
