The Director Plan of Art District - Soho Malaga (2011-2014) is an example of the assisted transformation of the neighborhood of Ensanche Heredia by the public administration of Malaga City Hall. The Ensanche’s conversion into Art District helped as a tool to create a city branding associated with the touristic and cultural consumption, stimulating by doing so themed public spaces and privatization process. With these cultural promotion policies, and by following the logics of creative industries, Malaga intends to put itself globally on the competitive map of touristic cities, fundamentally by urban interventions with a special focus on the productive role of the city’s culture. This way, the borough, advertised as a city of museums, with the production of Soho contributed to promoting the gentrification process that the center suffers, in which culture, understood as a strategic asset commodity, has a key role. El Plan Director del Barrio de las Artes - Soho Málaga (2011-2014) supuso un ejemplo de transformación asistida del barrio del Ensanche Heredia por parte de la gestión pública del Ayuntamiento de Málaga. Esta conversión del Ensanche en barrio de las artes contribuyó a la creación de una marca de ciudad ligada al consumo turístico y cultural, estimulándose de esta manera procesos de tematización y privatización del espacio público. Con estas políticas de promoción de la cultura, y siguiendo las premisas de la industria creativa, Málaga busca posicionarse globalmente en el mapa competitivo de las ciudades turísticas, principalmente por medio de intervenciones urbanas que priman el rol productivo de la cultura en la ciudad. De esta manera, la administración municipal, publicitándose como ciudad de los museos, terminó contribuyendo con la producción del Soho a los procesos de gentrificación que sufre el centro, en los que la cultura, entendida como un activo estratégico de mercado, toma un rol principal.

An overview of research on suicide and the internet, as well as the practical applications of online interventions in suicide prevention efforts is given. The text presents how much material about suicide is available online and what are the contents, with a special focus on pro-suicide and harmful online material and communication, and how people at risk of suicide use the internet. The topic of advantages and dangers of suicide-related material available on social media platforms will be covered. The range and effectiveness of online and web-based crisis interventions are discussed, along with support available online for people bereaved by suicide. The text also presents existing efforts on regulation and legislation in relation to suicide-related websites and content.

Objective: This article provides an overview of this theme issue of the American Journal of Health Behavior dedicated to electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS), with a special focus on JUUL. Methods: The author summarizes key findings from included papers and offers an evaluative perspective on ENDS as tools for smoking cessation versus the prospect of their appeal to previous non-smokers. Results: Delineation of certain metrics (eg, defining who is a smoker) and clarification about an acceptable level of unintended consequences weighed against harm reduction confound conclusions about the public health role of ENDS/JUUL. Conclusion: Until agreement on key definitions and performance of well-controlled studies, a system that promotes ENDS/JUUL use among smokers but discourages their use by never-smokers is a regulatory challenge.

<p>There is a wide array of traditional toys in Indonesia. In the past, traditional toys played an important role for skill and creativity development of children. Today, the position of traditional toys in the society is displaced by toys from large-scale manufacturers. Given the critical role of traditional toys for children’s motoric and social development, there is a need to develop media that can be used to promote these traditional products and strengthen their position in the public. We propose to use Batik as a way to effectively disseminate and promote traditional toys to the general public. Apart from this, using traditional toys to create new Batik motifs can have an economic value for the producers of Batik, promote Indonesian products and enrich the Indonesian Batik. This study aims to explore the variety of traditional toys, mainly from Klaten and Magelang, in the Central Java province of Indonesia, and use them as the basis for the development of Batik motif creation. This study used Trilogi Keseimbangan (or Harmony Trilogy) aesthetic theory analytical approach that explains the creation of craft consists of the following phases: exploration, design, and materialization. The creation method in this study adopts Tiga Tahap Enam Langkah (Three Phases, Six Steps) method offered in the theory. The finding in the field found that the traditional toys material used in Klaten and Magelang, mostly made from waste wood, plywood, and zinc. The manufacturing process is done manually by two or three craftsmen using a simple technology. The traditional toys are designed by the artisans mostly, although there may be designs from the clients. In addition, we also found that the traditional toys have never been used as a Batik motif. The traditional toys Batik motif presented in this work is researcher’s design. For the purposes of this study, we first research the variety of traditional toys available in the market today in Indonesia. We look into the process of creating these toys. Finally, we develop our own designs with the idea that these designs can be used in the creative industries, particularly in the business of batik.</p><p> </p>

Thousands of universities have made climate emergency declarations; however the higher education sector is not rising to the collective challenge with the urgency commensurate with scientific warnings. Universities are promoting an increased focus on sustainability through their research, teaching and their own institutional footprints. However, we suggest that such initiatives will be insufficient to catalyse the required transformations in our societies and economies because of (i) the time lags inherent in education and research pathways to impact, and (ii) their failure to address either real-world political processes or the forces invested in maintaining the status quo. We therefore suggest that academics should move from publications to public actions and engage in advocacy and activism to affect urgent and transformational change. We discuss the barriers to engagement in advocacy that academics face, and propose a number of actions that universities should adopt to help overcome them. These include explicitly recognising advocacy as part of the work mandate of academic staff by altering work allocation models, facilitating engaged research sabbaticals, altering hiring and promotion policies, and providing training to enhance the effectiveness of engagement. In addition, universities must defend the right of academics to engage in protest and push back against emerging threats to academic freedom. Such actions would strengthen a rich tradition of academic protest and enhance the contribution of universities to the public good in areas well beyond sustainability, for example race and social justice (Black Lives Matter, decolonising education) and public health.

This research paper is a reflection on the role of innovation and creativity in the urban landscape. Based on the analysis of the prominence of cities in the context of globalisation and the essential role of culture for urban regeneration and competitive advantage, the paper illustrates a series of innovative urban cultural practices implemented in different cities around the world. The focus on iconic architecture, the creative transformation of urban spaces as well as the hosting of mega-events reaffirm the urban cultural identity on account of new urban narratives, innovative dynamics of cultural consumption and entertainment, creative talent attraction and boost to the creative industries. In addition, those innovative practices become the catalyst for citizen engagement and activism. El artículo ofrece una reflexión sobre el papel de la innovación y la creatividad en el entorno urbano. Partiendo del análisis del protagonismo de las ciudades en el contexto de la globalización y el papel esencial de la cultura para la competitividad y la regeneración urbana, se ilustra una serie de innovadoras prácticas culturales en diferentes ciudades alrededor del mundo. La apuesta por la arquitectura icónica, la transformación creativa del espacio urbano, así como la celebración de mega-eventos culturales reafirman la identidad cultural urbana a través de la creación de nuevas narrativas urbanas, innovadoras dinámicas de ocio y consumo cultural, la atracción del talento creativo y el estímulo a las industrias creativas. Por otro lado, estas prácticas innovadoras se convierten en el catalizador del activismo y la participación ciudadana.

In this research paper I chose to make a detailed analysis of the role of Social Media in institutional communication, focusing in the case study on observing the Facebook page of Constanta City Hall, this page being an important means of communication with citizens of the public institution concerned. In other words, I chose this topic because I consider extremely important the public relations department within a public institution, such as Constanta City Hall, after completing undergraduate studies applying for a position in this field being a main option for me. The main objective of the paper was to analyze institutional communication in its various forms, but especially the external communication of public institutions, the way of transmitting information from them to citizens being a very important aspect in terms of proper functioning of public administration.

The common feature of contemporary approaches to urban reconstruction is sustainability. For a number of years now, there has been considerable research on the ecological, social and economic aspect of sustainability. In addition to these three pillars, the document Rio+20 introduced the crucial role of culture into the establishment and execution of the paradigm of sustainability. Sustainable tourism, cultural and creative industries and urban revitalization of heritage are the key economy sectors that generate successful local development and strengthen creativity. Public spaces, seen through the prism of sustainability, is the public and cultural capital citizens use, transform, enlarge and then transfer on to future generations. With this in mind, the reconstruction and improvement of the historic town squares as representative public space has particular importance, made yet more significant in our country, given that the regulation of first squares in Serbian towns in 19th and 20th century has been the result of state aspiration towards the European cultural milieu and its endeavor to determine national identity within the framework of European values.

The productive role that is often referred to the role of the public sector by women are in formal or informal sectors. Women working in the public sector generally have an education that tend to be high. Women want to realize the education she receives in terms of work. Women apply that knowledge in work. Work is an achievement to be able to improve the lives of humans. This paper analyzes how the role of women working in the public sector and the problems they face with multiple roles. Gender issues that arise in the formal sector is that most women are in the lower position rather than men.

Abstract This paper is focused on the role of cultural and creative industries in the regeneration of the inner city of Ostrava. The first part outlines the basic relationship of cultural and creative industries and urban areas in market economies, with emphasis on industrial cities. Ostrava is a post-socialist city, therefore essential characteristics of one are briefly given. The empirical part presents three case studies demonstrating the impact of cultural and creative industries on the regeneration of the inner city of Ostrava. In the conclusion, the case studies are discussed in a comparative perspective with special accent on the role of the public sector as an actor of culture-led regeneration in Ostrava.
