Artiklen belyser det koloniale og postkoloniale forhold mellem Grønland og Danmark og tegner et billede af danskerne syn på grønlandsk kropskultur gennem tiden.  Solveig S. Vinther: Body Culture in Greenland – seen from Denmark Since the formal end of colonialism, great emphasis has been put on research in postcolonialism and postcolonial issues. The basic idea in this kind of research is that colonisation is not only a matter of war, violence, and power relations; we also need to consider changes at a more unspoken and unheeded level. In Denmark however, the term Empire has never really been part of the Danish self-image, and only a small amount of postcolonial research have been conducted that focus specifically on the relationship between Denmark and its former colonies. This article will look at the ways in which the Danish colonisers have described the body culture of the Greenlanders through time. The postcolonial aspect of the project will centre on the ways in which the relations between the colonisers and the colonised can be read in the literature of the colonisers. The term Polarism will be introduced to develop an understanding of the Danish discourses describing the body culture of Greenland. The article will hopefully begin to answer some of the unanswered – and unasked – questions concerning the relationship between Denmark and Greenland through an analysis of games, sports and body culture and their representation in the colonial and postcolonial descriptions of Greenland.

The body becomes the object of intense study and investigations with the modernity. But he was not the object of indifference. Even with the denial of the bodily pleasures that the average age undertook, the body was object of attention and normalization, being understood in a double meaning, the sacred and the profane. The relation body and nature gains different contours with the birth of modern science, giving rise to new dualities, between matter and spirit or psyche. Such dualities have produced enduring and persistent meanings in bodily practices and body conceptions. Physical Education as an area of knowledge and intervention that has in the body culture its privileged object, inherits and re-signifies such conceptions, reproducing or breaking with dualistic practices and understandings of the relation body and nature. This essay seeks to discuss the relationships between body and nature as well as its implications for the formation of the academic and professional field of Physical Education. We seek to reflect on the social-historical constructions on the body, especially those centered on biological aspects. We understand that the relationship body nature is an important point of understanding the uniqueness and continuities on the conceptions of body. In this way we undertake a qualitative, historical and sociological analysis centered on authors who elucidate these questions, such as: Corbin, Courtine e Vigarello (2010), Gélis (2010), Suassuna et al. (2005), Vaz (1999), Csordas (2008) and Le Breton (2003). Based on the elements discussed by the authors, we identify ruptures and continuities in relation to conceptions and practices with the body, remaining a desire for the split between body and spirit/mind.

For women the body is an important concept in clothing aesthetics. Body image is an important factor influencing what women like in clothing and what they choose to wear.In this study, which has been prepared with the aim of stressing the importance of the relationship between "Clothing Preference" and "Body Image", women's ability to minimize the difference between their ideal appearance and their actual appearance, as well as their ability to possess a good self-image and powerful self-confidence, have been studied.Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) was used in this study. The sample is 150 women aged 18-50 within the Konya Province in Turkey limits. The research concluded that while there was a relationship between the visual and verbal clothing choices for the women in the sample group, there was less of a match among their visual choices.

In the intersection between neoliberal entrepreneurship and epidemiological models of causation in late modernity the body has become one of the most prominent symbols of individual self-conduct, self-control and moral. Through the symbolic reading of the body, experts as well as laymen believe they can reach true statements about the individuals’ lifestyle, self-conduct, risk management, moral and not least self-discipline. But how did we come to a point in time where the body, health and illness became primarily the manifestation of lifestyle and individual self-conduct? In this article a few pieces of the Danish historical development towards this place in time will be outlined. The relationship between the body, culture and class has been the focal point of epidemiological research for well over 150 years. Characteristic of this production of knowledge is the formulation of shifting and often contradictory theories about the ontology of the individual and society, and the relation between these two entities. This article focuses on the development within epidemiological production of knowledge and its relations to contemporary intellectual, political and social changes, which seem to have been crucial for the way in which we now understand the body.

Abstract Spirit and body of the man living in the world of modern technology are discussed in the paper. The entire life of modern man is under the pressure of rapid and far‐reaching changes in economy, organisation, education, self‐image. The relations between the spirit and the body on the one side and illness and health, money, media, narcissism, morality and national identity on the other side are studied in the article. Particular attention is paid to the relationship between the world of modern science and technology and the quality of life focusing on the mind and body. The fact emphazised in the conclusion is that the nature of Western ‐ European civilization has been changing with predominant turning to the SELF, to the absolute interest of an invidual in terms of materialism. The result of this civilizational turn is jeopardizing the spirit and the body of modern man.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is twofold. First, develop and test a conceptual model to understand the relationship between customers’ servicescape perceptions, self-image congruity and attitude in healthcare context. Second, to examine the extent to which the relationship between customers’ self-image congruity to attitude in a fully mediated model is moderated by their prior experience. Design/methodology/approach – Utilizing a self-administered survey of 320 customers, the study tested the proposed relationships with robust data analytic techniques. Findings – The results show that favorable servicescape perceptions help customers to form image congruence in terms of symbolic and functional elements and thereby strengthen their attitude. Further, servicescape accentuated image congruence have varying effects on customers’ attitude depending up on customers’ prior experience. Research limitations/implications – This study emphasized the role of servicescape on self-image congruity formation and customer attitude in a new service context (healthcare), and contribute to the body of existing knowledge on servicescapes and image congruity and further verify the soundness and robustness of the integrative theoretical framework. Practical implications – Favorable servicescape perceptions may encourage customers to form image congruence and attitude. In this respect, managers should make efforts to signal desired servicescape perceptions in order to retain existing customers and attract new ones. Originality/value – This study was the first to apply an integrative perspective of inference theory and image congruity theory to the context of hospital services to understand the relationship between servicescape, image-congruity and customer attitude.

This article has two purposes: (a) to examine the relationship between intercultural power relations and the widespread practice of accent discrimination and (b) to underscore the ramifications of accent discrimination both for the individual and for global society as a whole. First, authors review social theory regarding language and group identity construction, and then go on to integrate more current studies linking accent bias to sociocultural variables. Authors discuss three examples of intercultural accent discrimination in order to illustrate how this link manifests itself in the broader context of international relations (i.e., how accent discrimination is generated in situations of unequal power) and, using a review of current research, assess the consequences of accent discrimination for the individual. Finally, the article highlights the impact that linguistic discrimination is having on linguistic diversity globally, partially using data from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and partially by offering a potential context for interpreting the emergence of practices that seek to reduce or modify speaker accents.

The relationship between body height and body weight has been described by using various terms. Notable among them is the body mass index, body surface area, body shape index and body surface index. In clinical setting the first descriptive parameter is the BMI scale, which provides information about whether an individual body weight is proportionate to the body height. Since the development of BMI, two other body parameters have been developed in an attempt to determine the relationship between body height and weight. These are the body surface area (BSA) and body surface index (BSI). Generally, these body parameters are described as clinical health indicators that described how healthy an individual body response to the other internal organs. The aim of the study is to discuss the use of BSI as a better clinical health indicator for preclinical assessment of body-organ/tissue relationship. Hence organ health condition as against other body composition. In addition the study is `also to determine the best body parameter the best predict other parameters for clinical application. The model parameters are presented as; modeled height and weight; modelled BSI and BSA, BSI and BMI and modeled BSA and BMI. The models are presented as clinical application software for comfortable working process and designed as GUI and CAD for use in clinical application.
