Independent parliamentarians

This chapter considers consider the experience of those who run on an independent platform. It comprises seven separate contributions, from independents who have been elected at various levels in Ireland, from local councils, to the Seanad, the Dáil and the European Parliament. Although this study is primarily on independents in the Dáil, it is nevertheless useful to consider all these levels as it demonstrates the role and function of independents across the Irish political system. The independent contributors provide an insider’s account of life as an outsider within the Irish political system. With their years of experience on the political frontline, they speak with clarity and insight on the failings of the system, and in particular the lack of transparency and accountability. They suggest a number of reforms that would allow both parliament and the people to wrest back true political power.

<p>This study was aimed to describe: (1) the relation among political groups in the system of religio political power, (2) the political system when dealing with foreign trade organization (VOC), and also (3) the political system encouraging vertical mobility of the Javanese society. This research employed historical methods, and the data were collected from both primary and secondary sources. Meanwhile, the reconstruction of historiography greatly regarded diachronic and synchronic aspects. The results of this study showed that religio political power was produced by the process of Islamization. In that political system, there was equality of position between the rulers and the ulama. The ulama as a representation of the people, bring about the consequence that all public policy must be approved by them. Political system is equal to ‘descending of power’. This political system underwent a political change when the central government moved to rural Java, that is changed into nomadism and schizophrenia, because of the strong subordination and repression to the ulama and the opposition groups. The political violence would not build vertical mobility of Javanese people both in education and economic development. Furthermore, this system would face difficulty when deling with the strategy of ex-nihilo by VOC.</p> <p>Key words: religio political power, Islamization, the ulama, ex-nihilo, vertical mobility</p><p> </p> <p>Studi ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan: (1) relasi antar kelompok politik dalam sistem religio political power, (2) sistem politik itu ketika berhadapan dengan organisasi dagang asing, dan (3) sistem politik itu memacu mobilitas vertikal masyarakat Jawa. Riset ini menggunakan adalah metode sejarah, dan pengumpulan data melalui sumber primer dan sekunder. Sementara itu rekonstruksi sejarah utamakan segi diakronik dan sinkronik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sistem religio political power adalah hasil dari proses Islamisasi. Dalam sistem politik itu terdapat kesejajaran kedudukan antara penguasa dan ulama. Ulama sebagai representasi rakyat memiliki konsekuensi setiap kebijakan publik perlu mendapat persetujuan ulama. Sistem politik mempunyai bentuk yang sama dengan descending of power. Sistem politik ini mengalami perubahan ketika pusat pemerintahan berpindah di pedalaman Jawa, yakni menjadi nomadisme dan schizophrenia, karena kuatnya represi terhadap ulama dan kelompok oposisi. Kekerasan politik itu tidak akan membangun mobilitas vertikal masyarakat Jawa, baik bidang pendidikan maupun pembangunan ekonomi. Bureaucracy is an important instrument in the country as a bridge between people and government. However, the strength of the role and function of bureaucracy often makes the rulers abusing bureaucracy for political ends, especially the perpetuation of power. The era of regional autonomy with direct regional head elections made the head of the region have the right to determine its bureaucratic officials in the region. Later, officials of the bureaucracy are also likely to be used for award of the tool in the context of general elections that followed for the next period. It is expressed as the politicization of the bureaucracy for winning the local elections. The local elections in Medan city became one example of the phenomenon of the politicization of the bureaucracy. Harahap Rahudman victory at the General Election of Medan in 2010 to form the politicization of the bureaucracy that causes power can be continued in the next period. This happens because the positions of the existing bureaucracy have intervened before to follow the will of the political authorities in the city of Medan. Own bureaucratic officials follow the will of the Mayor of Medan and keep the position or position in government institutions. The phenomenon of the politicization of the bureaucracy will give rise to a negative meaning of the bureaucracy which initially should be the government’s tool to serve the people and also lead to disruption of the bureaucratic model that should be professional (merit).

This study aims to find a power relation as a discourse played by the clerics as the Prophet's heir in the contestation of political event in the (the elections) of 2019 in Indonesia. The method used is qualitative based on the critical teory paradigm. Data gathered through literary studies were later analyzed based on Michel Foucault's genealogy-structuralism based on historical archival data. The findings show that, (1) The involvement of scholars in the Pemilu-Pilpres 2019 was triggered by a religious issue that has been through online social media against the anti-Islamic political system, pro communism and liberalism. Consequently create two strongholds from the scholars, namely the pro stronghold of the issue pioneered by the GNPF-Ulama, and the fortress that dismissed the issue as part of the political intrigue pioneered by Ormas NU; (2) genealogically the role of scholars from time to time underwent transformation. At first the Ulama played his role as well as Umara, then shifted also agent of control to bring the dynamization between the issue of religion and state, to transform into motivator and mediator in the face of various issues Practical politic event, especially at Pemilu-Pilpres 2019. Discussion of the role of Ulama in the end resulted in a reduction of the role of Ulama as the heir of the prophet, from the agent Uswatun Hasanah and Rahmatan lil-' ālamīn as a people, now shifted into an agent that can trigger the division of the people.

Division of power and social integrationExplanation of some of the recent challenges to western democracy may be found in a re-examination of Montesquieu's thought. Here we find the theory of the separation of power to be far more complex than is implied in the simple divisions of legislature, executive, and judiciary. For Montesquieu, the separation of power is more a social division than a political or juridical one. He contemplated returning the organs of political power to various social forces, e.g. monarchy, aristocracy, and bourgeoisie, and that then the self-assertion of forces would be restrained by the resistance of other social groups. The realization of its goals would require every important social group to integrate itself both to society and to the state and to seek its goals through realization of the general good.Since Montesquieu's time, political structures would seem to have been very little changed even though social structures have been greatly altered by the rise of economic powers. Political institutions have been losing touch with the vital forces of society and these have had to find other channels of expression. The personalization of power, the rise of the executive, violence, and increasing paternalism may be viewed as phenomena of compensation by which attempts are being made to bridge the gap between the structures of political power and those of a society which has been restructured.Revigoration of parliamentary democracy would seem to require that all vital social forces be reintegrated into the political system and be given meaningful channels of political expression. Failure to make such changes opens the way to identification of the political powers with technocracy and the increasing general use of violence in the resolution of social problems.

The mosque has a very large role and function in all dimensions of Muslim life. Where the mosque is a symbol that illustrates the strength map of the people and can unite and realize every meaning of goodness. Without mosque, the unity of the Muslims will be easily broken even divorced. The mosque is not just a place of worship, but all aspects of life problems of the people and the development and fostering of the community (people) of Islam can be resolved from the mosque. However, Along with the times, the mosque experienced a shift in values, where the mosque is no longer functioned as a function that has been exemplified by the Prophet Muhammad Saw. Based on this concern, some Muslims are aware and care about the condition of the mosque that began to be abandoned by the people, and it can be realized that lately there have been emerging movements that have encouraged the functioning of the mosque as it was in the early days of Islam. As an effort in managing the mosque by implementing several functions such as: planning, organizing, leadership actualization, supervision and evaluation become a structured management process. And this matter is combined with the development of human rights or the development of Islamic society. Awareness of the people of worship hereafter and balancing faith in worldly worship (capacital social).

Banyuwangi is an area rich in various cultures and customs, this is because Banyuwangi district is inhabited by various ethnic groups. The majority of the sub-districts of Banyuwangi are osing tribe who live in the village of fern and urban village of rejo. Joglo building as one of the traditional Javanese buildings in it contained philosophy that suits the life of the people. The arrangement of the room in Joglo is generally divided into three parts, namely the meeting room called pendopo, the living room or the space used to hold the show called pringgitan, and the back room called dalem or omah jero as the family room. For the people of Banyuwangi especially those who still preserve the joglo house just like the osing tribe have begun to experience the shifting of its role and function where in this case joglo house serve as additional need for home decoration, private residence of the citizen, until used as permanent building of cafe and restaurant. From the description above, the researcher felt that the community did not understand the function of the role and shape of the architecture of the Javanese house which has become the culture of the inheritance slowly changed by causing a shift to the cultural values contained within it. The shift in value will sooner or later bring changes to traditional architectural forms, structures and functions.

The article examines the role of political parties in modern state-building processes in Ukraine. The place of political parties in the political and legal system of society is determined. The general directions of overcoming problematic situations of activity of political parties in Ukraine are offered. It is noted that political parties play an important role in the organization and exercise of political power, act as a kind of mediator between civil society and public authorities, influence the formation of public opinion and the position of citizens directly involved in elections to public authorities and local governments. It is determined that in a modern democratic society, political parties carry out their activities in the following areas: the work of representatives of political parties in public authorities and local governments; participation in elections of state authorities and local self-government bodies; promoting the formation and expression of political will of citizens, which involves promoting the formation and development of their political legal consciousness. These areas of political parties determine their role and importance in a modern democratic society, which determines the practical need to improve their activities and improve the national legislation of Ukraine in the field of political parties. Political parties are one of the basic institutions of modern society, they actively influence the ac-tivities of public authorities, economic and social processes taking place in the state and so on. It is through political parties that the people participate in the management of public affairs. Expressing the interest of different social communities, they become a link between the state and civil society. The people have the opportunity to delegate their powers to political parties, which achieves the ability of the people to control political power in several ways, which at the same time through competition of state political institutions and political parties contributes to increasing their responsibility to the people. It is noted that the political science literature has more than 200 definitions of political parties. And approaches to the definition of this term significantly depend on the general context in which this issue was studied by the researcher. It was emphasized that today in Ukraine there are important issues related to the activities of political parties. First of all, it is a significant number of registered political parties that are incapable, ie their political activity is conducted formally or not at all. According to official data from the Department of State Registration and Notary of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, 352 political parties are registered, of which 48 political parties do not actually function. The reason for the liquidation of such parties is not to nominate their candidates for the election of the President of Ukraine and People's Deputies of Ukraine for 10 years. According to this indicator, Ukraine ranks first among other European countries. Thus, 73 political parties are officially registered in Latvia, 38 in Lithuania, 45 in Moldova, 124 in Romania, and 56 in Slovakia. However, despite the large number of officially registered political parties in Ukraine, public confidence in their activities is low. It is concluded that political parties occupy a special place in the political and legal system of society and play an important role in the organization and exercise of political power, as well as a kind of mediator between civil society and public authorities. The general directions of overcoming problematic situations of activity of political parties in Ukraine are offered, namely: introduction of effective and impartial control over activity of political parties; creating conditions for reducing the number of political parties, encouraging their unification; establishment of effective and efficient sanctions for violation of the requirements of the current legislation of Ukraine by political parties.

The Grajagan village had a library located at the village office. So far, the library has not been managed and utilized optimally. The problems that occur in this library include the lack of book collections, the absence of chairs and tables for readers, the condition of the library is not well organized, and the library staff were not trained in managing the library. These problems have resulted in the low interest of the people of Grajagan village to visit the village library. To solve the problems, it was necessary to provide assistance in library development. Library development is carried out through the addition of book collections, providing chairs and tables for readers, arranging library space, and training for library staff. Based on the results of community service activities that have been carried out, it can be stated that the library's book collection has increased by 88 books, the library space becomes more comfortable with the increase in furniture, and the library staff has increased their knowledge in terms of library management. To further increase the role and function of the library, promotion or introduction to the library's book collections and facilities to local villagers is required.

The appearance of the new parliamentary life within the european parliament elected by direct universal franchise in june 1979. The first two turns of office saw the emergence of new political currents of european size. Via the ups and downs of european integration and the economic questions which are the community's member one concern, the new political european parliamentary game, determined by national interests and the decline of the ideological factor, comes to the fore. At least that's what the political powers of the north and south of the community put forward based on their national choices. Whereas the parliament demands an important role in the institutional system, the new european political system is looking more and more like the american model.

Habermas is widely criticized for adumbrating an essentialist, deliberative, and consensual approach to democracy that neglects the significance and importance of contingency, conflict, and emotions in the struggle for hegemony and collective identification. However, his conception of system and lifeworld raise the claim that no society could exist without providing for a minimal degree of political cooperation between professional actors in the political system and spontaneously acting laypeople in the social lifeworld. Contingency, conflict, and emotions are obviously at play in this political conception of how to ground system and lifeworld in mutual relations of power, knowledge, trust, and respect. The goal is not to reach a stable consensus or succumb to conflict and chaos but to avoid that system becomes uncoupled from lifeworld, thus undermining the reciprocal connection between political authorities and laypeople required to make and implement authoritative decisions which are ‘for', ‘of', ‘with', and ‘by' ‘the people'.
