AbstractFocus Group Discussions (FGD) method is a common approach for data collection in qualitative research projects, without exception in nursing research in recent years. The primary characteristic of this method is to use interaction data resulting from discussion among participants. The primary strength of the FGD method is that it can provide rich data, more informative, and valuable insight which can not be discovered through other methods. However, the optimal execution of the FGD method has been debated in the literatures, and consensus related to ideal methodology has not been achieved by researchers.

One question many ask in qualitative research is “Am I doing this right?” In her new book, Focus Group Discussions: Understanding Qualitative Research, Monique Hennink expertly shares with the reader suggestions and pitfalls of conducting focus group discussions. She shares these ideas and suggestions through conversation, research and anecdotal stories demonstrating the types of situations that one could experience when conducting a focus group discussion. Hennink dedicates a portion of the book to the importance of a robust methods discussion in supporting one’s write-up; as well as guidelines for writing-up research and assessing others published work (validity, reliability, credibility). Newcomers to this research method will find techniques to make improvements in focus group discussions both in the academic environment and the corporate world. This book has something for everyone.

The pandemic has changed people's habits or people's behavior in non-cash transactions using digital wallets or e-wallets to reduce the risk of being infected with the coronavirus, one of which is by using QRIS. However, we have not often encountered the use of digital payment technology through QRIS in tourism locations. One of them is the South Square of Yogyakarta. This research is qualitative research using the Focus group discussion method. In this study, the number of participants in this FGD was ten people from the team, ISEI, and tourism industry players in Alun-Alun Kidul Yogyakarta. Based on the results of the research that has been done, the first conclusion is that the use of QRIS in Alun-Alun Kidul Yogyakarta is still minimal, even though 80% have received the code, but only 30% have activated it, and who use it no more than 2%. Some several obstacles and challenges cause this, including the low number of visitors, regulations that are not required, and the mindset of traders who still use traditional financial management systems. The alternative solution offered is QRIS activation for tourism industry players who have not yet performed and provided mobile services from BPD.

The religious counselor has an important role in society as an agent of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Indonesia in transforming community. However, in the reality, as a community motivator, its class is far less important than the private motivators such as Mario Teguh, Abdullah Gymnastiar and his ESQ method, Christian Andrianto, Hermawan Kartajaya,Gede Prama, Krisnamurti, Guenta K., Andrie Wongso and so forth. This is a qualitative research using an in-depth interviews, Focus Group Discussion (FGD), observation and document study in collecting data. The results show: the first, the religious counselor developed a face to face model for their communication with their clients which is to some extent less sophisticated. In addition, this method does not follow people’s needs and development of technology. Furthermore, they are mostly working with religious group, except some religious counselors in Manado who tried to enhance their work into wider society

The population of the peoplein the province of Tawi-Tawi is densely inhabited by the BangsaSama. The BangsaSama scholars agreed that all people have varied traditional socio-political practices. Thus, Tawi-Tawi consists of different cultures in contrast with the more complex migrant groups. The triangulation technique method of qualitative research is utilized in this study. The descriptive-narrative survey method with key informant’s personal interview and the organized focus group discussion were used as data gathering tools to look into the influences of the migrants to the traditional socio-political practices of the BangsaSama in Tawi-Tawi. The different between the BangsaSama and the migrants lie in the degree of their complexity and rapidity of influences taking place within the group. Along this, the BangsaSama no matter how simple in their ways of living has a culture of their own. Undeniably, this study looked into the changes of the traditional socio-political practices of the BangsaSama as influenced by the migrants within the Tawi-Tawian context.

The Sebatik community is a marginalized community who does not have access to Indonesian television broadcasts. To get Indonesian television broadcasts, they have to buy satellite dishes which the majority of the people of Sebatik Island cannot afford. But on the other hand there is a leak of Malaysian television broadcasts in the Sebatik Island area. In this case, they rely on Malaysian television broadcasts which are very accessible at all times. This situation continued for many years and Malaysian television broadcasts became the main source of communication media. This study uses the theory of Interpretive Communities, Stanley Fish. The methodology used in this study is reception analysis through focus group discussions, and observation as a data collection technique. Focus Group Discussion was conducted on the people of Sebatik Island who met the criteria in the study. The results showed that Malaysian television broadcasts were used as the main television broadcast of the Sebatik community in their daily lives. Malaysian television which contains the values and meanings of the Malaysian state is interpreted by the Indonesian people on the border of Sebatik Island.
