Many research findings have stated that the use of technology in EFL classroom results invaluable achievements and develops positive attitudes. Technology may integrate sounds, pictures, motions, and colors that figure out a natural picture of real life. The aim of the study was to enhance the students’ attitude toward learning English by using technology of internet that used as the data-finding resources while computer software used as an instrument to do the assigned project. The instruction was performed in a project simulating business meeting, done in a group of seven members. The study was an action research using a total of 52 students from Accounting Department of State Polytechnic of Malang in the year of 2015/2016. The study took 12 meetings, with 90 minutes for each meeting. The data were collected through interviews, questionnaire, and direct observation, pre-test and post-test. Result of the study showed that by using technology, the students’ positive attitude toward learning English was promoted.

A positive attitude is a powerful tool that fosters enthusiasm, promotes self-esteem, and creates an atmosphere conducive to learning. Achievement in a target language relies not only on intellectual capacity, but also on the learner’s attitudes towards language learning. Attitudes could be viewed as a tendency to respond positively or negatively towards a certain thing, idea, person, situation etc. The attitudes that the students should have are attitude towards the language, attitude towards learning the language, attitude towards the language teacher, and attitude towards school in general. This study focuses on discussing about encouraging students to have positive attitudes toward learning English.

No previous studies have employed sociocultural theory and the notion of collaborative dialogue to examine collaborative writing in Saudi Arabia, where students favor writing individually. Exploring this topic is significant because of the importance the Saudi education system places on learning English, especially at the university level. Therefore, this longitudinal classroom-based study tested how collaborative writing affected the development of university students learning English as a foreign language in Saudi Arabia. The 46 participants were evenly divided into a control group, who wrote essays individually, and an experimental group, who worked on essays in small groups. Both groups took a pre-test before the eight-week intervention and a post-test at the end. The experimental group also took an end-of-study questionnaire. Although both groups showed improvement, the experimental group improved significantly more on the post-test than the control group and expressed positive attitudes toward collaborative writing on the questionnaire. The study concludes with theoretical and pedagogical implications and recommendations for future research.

<p>This paper presents the results of a field study which was carried out to identify Jordanian EFL students' attitudes towards learning English idioms. The study sample consisted of 94 students majoring in Translation and English Language and Literature at Yarmouk University, Jordan. A questionnaire was used to investigate the subjects' attitudes. The findings show that the majority of the participants have positive attitudes towards learning English idioms as they believe in their importance for achieving effective communication in English. Moreover, the data show that neither the subjects' gender nor their academic major has a significant effect on their attitudes towards learning English idioms as most of the participants displayed a highly positive attitude towards learning these idioms.</p>

Education is a process of learning knowledge and skills. Learning English is skill-based learning that requires diverse approaches and techniques. Current education is much affected by technological advances. The use of technology is the latest solution to answer the challenges of learning English. As with advancement of English language learning means, duolingo completes to innovate way of learning language on mobile phone basis. The focus of this research is to explore the use of Duolingo apps in improving students vocabulary in Borneo University of Tarakan. The research design of this research is pre-experimental research with pre-test and post-test. This research will involve 10 students as sample with 30 days practicing duolingo apps using “regular” intensity of practice (20 xp per day). The Research instruments were tests and questionnaire to answer the research questions. How is the use of duolingo in improving students’ vocabulary? Based on the quantitative data, the students’ score is increased. The result is expected to provide information for teachers and students in having extensive language learning practice in handy form

Effective ESL teaching/learning has always been one of the most important interest areas for researchers and educators-practitioners. Over the past twenty years, teaching methods have been developed to enhance the students’ motivation and self-confidence with the purpose of improving their language skills. Learners with higher motivation do better in English, and learners with self-confidence tend to be more successful in learning. The contemporary society is constantly changing and developing new technologies. Using online games in ESL classroom is one of such methods supplementing the teaching-learning process. Learners are often motivated by hands-on and active learning opportunities. The students are able to work on accomplishing a goal by choosing specific actions. They experience the consequences of the actions, which is one of the ways that a game-based learning experience is similar to real life. In this article, we examined how the Kahoot game-based method of teaching ESL may affect the attitude of university students towards the language and their level of motivation and confidence. The obtained data revealed that using Kahoot training sessions was mostly successful in enhancing students’ confidence and motivation in learning English and the majority of students revealed positive attitudes to using Kahoot in language learning. However, 11% of students considered using online games to be a waste of time and 22% of students thought that learning English should not have fun as a necessary requirement. The author suggests that game-based method of teaching could be of use when utilized systematically over the academic year. However, university teachers should try various approaches and strategies to create a supportive learning environment in the classroom where learners feel interested, safe and secure to set and pursue their learning goals.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of positive learning on happiness, Aggression and hope for adolescents with leukemia in Ahvaz. The sample consisted of 30 people who were selected by available sampling method. 15 subjects in the experimental group and 15 in the control group were randomly assigned. The experimental design was a pre-test-post-test type with control group and follow-up period. Measurement tools included Oxford Happiness Inventory (Argyle, 1989); Ahwaz's Aggression Questionnaire (Zahedifar, Najarian, and Shokrkon, 2000); Hope Scale (Schneider, 1991). To run, at first, the pre-test was taken from both groups. Then, the experimental group was trained in 14 sessions of 90 minutes, and after each group, they were subjected to post-test. And one month later, the follow-up process was completed. Data analysis was performed using multivariate covariance analysis (MANCOVA) and one-way analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). The results showed that positive attitudes toward happiness, aggressiveness and hopefulness of adolescents with leukemia in Ahvaz were effective.

This study attempts to determine whether gamification can be used as a pedagogical technique to overcome the challenges in teaching statistics. A post-test quasi-experimental design was carried out in gamified and non-gamified groups in order to reveal the effect of gamification elements in cultivating students’ statistical literacy skills. Students in gamified group were also interviewed to understand the function of gamification process. The results suggest that; although gamifying the instructional process had a positive impact on developing students’ statistical literacy in medium and high score students; surprisingly the influence of the gamification to the low- achieved scores were not positive. The positive impact was discussed in accordance with the gradual structure of statistical literacy and suggestions for successful gamification applications due to the context were included.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a major public health problem around the world. Therefore, the aim of the study was to assess the awareness and prevalence of General Anxiety Disorder (GAD) with regard to COVID-19 among the Hail community, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in order to help health authorities to effectively control the pandemic. Methods: A cross-sectional online survey was completed by 412 participants living in Hail, Saudi Arabia. The questionnaire assessed demographic characteristics, knowledge, attitudes, and practices for the prevention of COVID-19, as well as psychological feelings in terms of GAD as an impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Results: The study found that most of the respondents demonstrated good knowledge, attitudes, and practice for COVID-19 prevention. The elderly and employed demonstrated significant positive attitudes and practices (p < 0.05). Participants with a positive attitude were almost two and a half times (OR = 2.4; 95% CI: 1.54–3.99) more likely to have good practices. Additionally, the rural respondents were less likely (OR = 0.45; 95% CI: 0.21–0.96) to have a positive attitude. Married participants were more than one and a half (OR = 1.60; 95% CI: 1.04–2.44) times more likely to have a positive attitude. The prevalence of GAD was 21.8% and was significantly increased among participants with inadequate knowledge (OR = 2.01; 95% CI: 1.25–3.22), females (OR = 1.92; 95% CI: 1.19–3.09), individuals with chronic diseases (OR = 1.71; 95% CI: 1.02–2.86), and non-Saudi participants (OR = 2.44; 95% CI: 1.02–5.85). Conclusions: Ensuring a sufficient combination of relatively good levels of knowledge, positive attitudes, and desired practices serves as a good approach to preventing the spread of COVID-19. However, the increased prevalence of GAD requires the attention of policymakers. Therefore, a great emphasis should be placed on health awareness campaigns, with a focus on misconceptions and the provision of counseling.

Abstract The aim of the present paper is to focus on the language of Human Resources (HR) as one of the subfields of English for business purposes in respect of positive evaluation and stancetaking and to identify to what extent evaluative language common in real-life situations is reflected in currently available textbooks of English for HR (EHR). Authentic language is taken from blogs and interviews with prominent HR managers on www.thehrdirector.com, which is a global online magazine dedicated to HR professionals. The corpus created from these texts is analysed from the point of view of evaluative language and the data ascertained are put into contrast with the language presented in three commonly available HR English textbooks. The analysis focusses on the lexical level of language and is based on the Appraisal framework (and the system of Attitude) of Systemic Functional Linguistics. Even though the present study is intended as qualitative rather than quantitative, the findings are quantified in order to shed some light on the commonality and frequency of some of the phenomena ascertained and their reflection in the textbooks. The outcomes of the analysis might serve as food for thought and inspiration for tertiary-level teachers of general business English courses as well as highly specialised courses focusing on the language of human resources.
