Hemispheric Dominance Vis-À-Vis English Language Performance Results and Creativity Levels among College Freshmen

The English language is an instrument to acquire newknowledge in science, mathematics, humanities and social sciences since the world of knowledge in these areas is generally available in English. Hence, it is being maintained and continuously studied. This study investigated the relationship of students’ hemispheric dominance with English language performance and creativity levels in the context of 423 students randomly chosen from the freshmen population of the thirteen colleges at the Western Mindanao State University, Philippines. For this end, the study employed Descriptive - Correlation Method through which the respondents were asked to complete the six tests, namely: the Hemispheric Dominance Test, the Listening and Reading Comprehension Tests, the Speaking and Writing Skill Tests, and the Torrance Test of Creative Thinking – Figural Form B, Research Edition. Pearson r results revealed that correlation coefficients of -.0.13 between hemispheric dominance and language performance and 0.011 between the former and creativity were not significant at p< .05. This led to the conclusion that the respondents’ hemispheric dominance was not significantly related to their English language performance and their creativity level. Generally, the left-brained, the right-brained or the whole-brained students may be good or poor in the language and in the creativity tests. For the last twenty years, polymer hybrid nanocomposites have enjoyed unflagging interest from numerous scientific groups and R&D departments, as they provide notable enhancement of properties, even at low nanofillers’ content. Their performance results from many factors, the most important of which is the uniform distribution in the entire volume of the matrix, that still is very challenging, but is the right choice of two types of nanoparticles that can lead to an increase of dispersion stability and even more uniform distribution of fillers. The incorporation of two types of nanofillers, especially when they differ in aspect ratio or chemical nature, allows to additively reduce the price of the final composite by replacing the more expensive filler with the cheaper one, or even synergistically improving the properties, e.g., mechanical, thermal, and barrier, etc., that can extend their usage in the industry. Despite numerous review papers on nanocomposites, there is no review on how the introduction of a hybrid system of nanofillers affects the properties of polyolefins, which are the most commonly used engineering plastics. This review deeply focuses on the structure–properties relationship of polyolefins-based hybrid nanocomposites, especially based on two types of polyethylenes (low-density polyethylenes (LDPE) and high-density polyethylenes (HDPE)) and polypropylene.

The idea of establishing the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), aiming to establish a balance between diversity and unity among higher education institutions, started with the Sorbonne Declaration, first published in 1998.The EHEA seeks to ensure that higher education systems are compatible and comparable to one another while preserving their unique differences. This study is aimed to examine the programme competencies of the Department of English Language and Literature. To represent the universe, a state university offering education in English Language and Literature from Turkey’s seven regions are chosen, aimed to create a common language for writing the competencies and correct the existing programme competencies. In order to bring the programmes together on a common ground and to be recognised both nationally and internationally, it is important to ensure that the programme competencies are written in a more simplified way without creating comorbidity and classified in the right sub-categories. An investigation of the relationship of hemispheric dominance (dichotic listening) and divergent thinking (Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking) with 27 preschool children (11 males and 16 females; mean age of 4–8) indicated a positive relationship between right hemispheric dominance and scores on the Product Improvement task. Low intertask correlations suggested that the Unusual Uses and Product Improvement tasks were not measuring the same construct. These findings were discussed with regard to nature of the task (stimulus specificity) and the age of the subjects in this study. The findings show that divergent thinking is associated with right hemispheric dominance in children as young as 4 years.

An individual's attitude is imperative in sustaining his/her performance. One has to believe and do the right things all the times for excellence. However, there are many aspects that the individual needs to recognize and do excellently well. This paper presents an attitudinal measurement on service excellence attitudes and links it to the students’ MUET performance. The multi-item measurement scale was systematically developed and empirically tested for reliability and validity. The individual’s service excellence scale was called MyServEx (My Service Excellence) which consisted of 6 dimensions and 32 items. The MyServEx (Self) was empirically tested and the survey data were obtained from the MUET students to investigate the role of attitudes in leveraging the English language performance. The teachers can understand the students better and creatively help them. The limitations and future direction for research were also discussed

In the submitted study the problem of the formation of financial literacy of students at informatics lessons and relevant training of future informatics teachers is considered. Financial literacy is understood as a set of basic knowledge in the field of finance, banking, insurance, as well as budgeting for personal finances that allow a person to choose the right financial product or service, soberly assess and take risks that may arise during the use of these products, correctly accumulate savings and identify doubtful (fraudulent) investment schemes. The authors conclude that successful development of meaningful lines of the course of financial literacy requires integration of a few school subjects, such as mathematics, history, informatics, social science and literature. The role of modern informatics teacher in the formation of financial literacy of students is great. Therefore, in the training of a future informatics teacher, it should be paid the attention to issues related to the study of elements of financial literacy in informatics lessons. In order to solve the problem, the authors propose to use the special course “Basics of work in 1С:Enterprise”, which is implemented at Penza State University. The article contains a program of the course and the methodological recommendations for its implementation.

This research is a descriptive correlative study. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect and relationship of English extracurricular activities (English Club) on the English learning achievement of nursing students. This research took place at the Academy of Nursing Kesdam Iskandar Muda Banda Aceh. The population in this study were all students of the Academy of Nursing Kesdam Iskandar Muda Banda Aceh. The samples are students of 2018/2019 who take part in English extracurricular activities as many as 50 students. Data collection methods in this study are the documentation and the questionnaire. Documentation is used to obtain data about the names and number of students who become research respondents. The questionnaire was used to find out students' opinions about English extracurricular activities. The data was analysed in term of percentage by using statistic descriptive SPSS 16.0 and Ms Excel 2013. The results of this study are the researchers found that the average value of students' perceptions reached 82.3% which means students strongly agree with the existence of English language extracurricular activities to support the improvement of their English learning achievement. The data is strengthened by the results of documentation of students' English grades. From the results of the analysis showed that English extracurricular activities proved to have an effect on students' English learning achievement.

The present article is dedicated to the problems of the organization and planning of scientific and research work of students of the University in English classes, gives grounds for the purposes and tasks of such competence-forming activity as part of the “Oriental studies” speciality program, the Russian State University for the Humanities. The article analyzes these competences, as well as forms and methods of their formation and development. The author presents demarcation of scientific knowledge and gives its characteristics: using most general qualities of a subject, objective reasoning, argumentativeness, results verifiability and reproducibility, consistency, practicality, capability to change, anticipating the future, making forecasts, methodological reflection. The author tried to analyze the reflexive component of scientific and research work of students in more detail. The article presents possible reflexive positions in the interaction between the teacher and the student and shows the dynamics of this interaction, i.e. gives a hierarchy of positions which the student can occupy in the educational process depending on how independent they are in their activity. The article also highlights the content of scientific and research work of students of the University in English classes on the basis of work with foreign texts in the macro-discourse for the “Oriental studies” speciality. The given foundations of the organization and content of scientific and research work of students have been regularly used in English language classes, as well as in optional forms of scientific activity. The students have shown good results and passion for this kind of work, which confirms the correctness of this approach.
