The present investigation was undertaken with the objective of DUS characterisation of advanced recombinant lines of Kalanamak rice for 47 visually assessed characters and 15 quantitative characters. Trials were conducted for two seasons during Kharif 2016 and 2017 at Norman E. Borlaug Crop Research Centre (NEBCRC), G. B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUAT), Pantnagar, Uttarakhand in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) in three replications with the spacing of 20 cm × 15 cm and the recommended cultural practices were followed. For this data were recorded for sixty-two DUS descriptors following the guidelines of the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV) and the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmer’s Rights Authority (PPV & FRA). In the present study, 27 visually assessed characteristics are found to be monomorphic, 18 are dimorphic and 2 are polymorphic. KARL10 with higher yield, intermediate amylose content, early 50% flowering and early maturity is reported to be best genotypes in respect of desired characteristics and could be used as a potential source for deriving improved lines through selection.

An experiment was conducted at Horticultural Research Centre, SVP University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut (UP) during Rabi season of 2018-19 to assess the impact of different INM doses on yield and quality parameters of garlic. A total of ten treatments consisting of combinations of inorganic fertilizers, organic fertilizers and bio-fertilizers like T1- (Control), T2RDF (100:50:50 kg NPK ha-1), T3-RDF + 20 kg sulphur + FYM 20 ton ha-1, T4- RDF + 20 kg sulphur + VC 4 ton ha-1, T5- 75% RDF + 40 kg sulphur + 5 ton FYM ha-1+ PSB 5 kg ha-1, T6-75% RDF + 40 kg sulphur + 2 ton VC + Azotobacter 5 kg ha-1, T7- 75% RDF + 40 kg sulphur + FYM 3 ton + VC 1 ton+ PSB 5 kg + Azotobacter 5kg ha-1, T8- 50% RDF + 40 kg sulphur + FYM 5 ton + VC2 ton + PSB 5 kg ha-1, T9- 50% RDF + 40 kg sulphur + FYM5 ton + VC 2 ton+ Azotobacter 5 kg ha-1and T10- 50% RDF + 40 kg sulphur + FYM 5 ton + VC2 ton + PSB 5 kg + Azotobacter 5 kg ha-1 were used in Randomized Block Design and replicated thrice. Out of these an application of T7 (75% RDF + 40 kg sulphur + FYM3 ton + VC 1 ton ha-1 + PSB 5 kg + Azotobacter 5 kg ha-1) was found to be significantly superior in term of yield and attributing parameters of garlic.

A field experiment was conducted at Regional Wheat Research Centre of the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, Joydebpur, Gazipur for 2 consecutive years during 2006-07 and 2007-08. The objectives were to find out the optimum nutrient management practice on tuber yield, nutrient balance and economics of potato cultivation. Twelve nutrient management treatments were tested in a randomized complete block design with 3 replications. Treatments were T1=HYG (0-198-44-194-24-6-1.2), T2=MYG (0-140-34-138-18-4.5-0.9), T3=IPNS (10000-168-38-170-18-6-1.2), T4=STB (0-171-40-164-22-5-1), T5=FP (0-97-16-91-0-0-0), T6=CON (0-0-0-0-0-0-0), T7=HYG+CRI, T8=MYG+CRI, T9=IPNS+CRI, T10=STB+CRI, T11=FP+CRI, T12=CON+CRI kg ha-1 CDNPKSZnB for potato. The highest tuber yield of potato was obtained from STB+CRI (27.64 t ha-1) followed by IPNS+CRI (27.35 t ha-1), STB (27.10 t ha-1), IPNS (26.83 t ha-1), HYG+CRI (26.52 t ha-1) and HYG (26.10 t ha-1) in 2006- 07. Similar trend was found in 2007-08. The highest tuber yield and yield contributing parameters were noticed in CRI plots than without CRI. Except N, remaining nutrient balance like P K S Zn and B were found positive in case of HYG, MYG, IPNS and STB along with or without CRI nutrient managements. The balance was found almost negative in case of FP and CON. The highest BCR was observed in STB+CRI (3.96) followed by STB (3.93), IPNS+CRI (3.76), and IPNS (3.74). In order to study the combining ability, genetic parameters and gene actions of yield, yield components and quality characters in rice, fifteen F2 generation of a 6?6 diallel cross, excluding reciprocals, was grown in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. The results of analysis of variance showed significant differences between the genotypes for grain yield (GY), 100-grain weight (HGW), number of panicles per plant (PN), panicle length (PL), number of full grains per panicle (FGN) and for quality characters including amylose content (AC) and gel consistency (GC). The results of combining ability analysis revealed that general combining ability (GCA) and specific combining ability (SCA) were significant for characters GY, FGN, GC, AC, HGW and PN indicating the involvement of additive and non-additive effects in their inheritance, however high amounts of Bakers ratio remarked that additive gene effect had more portion in controlling these traits. The best combiners for GY, HGW, FGN, PN and PL, were RI18447-2, IR 50, Daylamani, RI18430-46 and Daylamani respectively. For AC and GC, the best combiner was Daylamani. Hayman's graphs showed that regression line passed below the origin cutting Wr axis in the negative region for HGW, PN, PL and GC, indicating the presence of over dominance. Estimates of genetic parameters showed significant amount of H1 and H2, and non-significant amount of D for the characters GY, PN, PL and GC, which confirmed the existence of dominance in the inheritance of these traits.

Background: Basmati rice is an important cereal crop occupying a unique position in Indian agriculture. More than 90% of global rice is produced and consumed in Asia and plays a crucial role in the entry of mineral nutrients into the food chain. Identification of stable genotypes is of great significance because the environmental conditions vary from season to season and year to year. Methods: Thirty six Basmati rice genotypes were evaluated in four production environments during kharif 2016 and kharif 2017 at two locations Kaul and Uchani to study the G × E interaction for milling, appearance, cooking and eating quality parameters. The genotypes were grown in randomized block design with three replications. Result: Based on the stability analysis of Eberhart and Russell model, genotypes viz., Haryana Mahak 1, Pusa 1826-12-271-4 and HKR 06-434 were found stable across the environments for milling%, grain length before cooking and length breadth ratio before cooking, respectively.

The experiment on evaluation of open pollinated genotypes of Yard long bean (Vigna unguiculata ssp. sesquipedalis) was conducted during summer season of 2016 and 2017 at Horticulture Research Division, Khumaltar Lalitpur to assess the variability in the genotypes and yield potentiality for commercial production. The experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. Six genotypes viz. Great Wall 01, Great Wall 02, Great Wall 03, Great Wall 04 and Great Wall 08 were compared with Khumal Tane. Observations were recorded on fresh pod yield and yield attributing parameters. The plant vigor and plant uniformity score (1-5 scale) was not found significantly different among the tested genotypes. The highest number of pods per plant (46) was observed on the variety Great Wall 03 and the lowest number of pods (33) on Great Wall 01 followed by Khumal Tane (39). The fresh pod yield was noted the highest with Great wall 03 (24 t/ha) followed by Great Wall 2 (19.4 t/ha). The lowest yield was observed with Khumal Tane (12.7 t/ha). Likewise, Great Wall 03 was found tender whitish with green color when it matures and spongy type of fruit with mid early maturity (85-95 days) along with long harvesting period of 30-35 days. Although Great Wall 02 scored 4.7 in plant uniformity (1-5 scale) and 4.4 in plant vigor (1-5 scale) it was characterized as thick fleshy and whitish green color at maturity with smooth straight type flesh having early maturity (70-80 days) which could gain the demand of the market early compared to most popular Khumal Tane. Thus, among all genotypes Great Wall 03 and Great Wall 02 were recorded best for further evaluation and recommendation.

Abstract Cabbage was transplanted on 9 Aug at the Snyder Research and Extension Farm, Pittstown, NJ. Treatment plots were replicated 4 times in a randomized complete block design and consisted of single rows, 30 ft long on 5 ft centers with 3 ft between plants. Buffers were 5 ft between rows and 12 ft between plots within rows. Standard cultural practices were used throughout the trial. Treatments were applied on 15, 18 Sep, and 1 Oct with a COz-pressurized single hollow-cone nozzle, hand-held sprayer that delivered 73.5 gal/acre directed at the upper surface of all leaves. Activator 90, a spreader-sticker, was added at the rate of 1 pt/100 gal to all treatments. Plots were evaluated on 28 Sep and 5 Oct by examining 5 plants from the middle of each replicate. All ICW larvae on the leaves were identified and counted.

The experiment was conducted to find out the effect of plant spacing on the performance of rice variety IR-64 and IR64-Sub1 under conventional and Submerged condition at the National Rice Research Institute (NRRI), Cuttack, Odisha during the Rabi season of 2018. Different planting densities were maintained using different spacing's. These include (S1) 15 cm × 10 cm, (S2) 15 cm × 20 cm. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with 3 replications spacing of 15 cm × 10 cm with produced the highest grain yield of 350 gm-2 in submerged condition on IR64-Sub1 rice cultivar, which was significantly higher than the yield with recommended density (15 cm × 10 cm with IR64 Sub1). This yield was increased due to higher number of panicles m-2. This result suggests that higher planting density (15 cm×10 cm) rather than increased number of seedling hill-1 is necessary for getting higher yield of IR-64Sub1 rice cultivar in continuous submerged condition (where V1=IR 64, V2=IR-64 Sub1, S1=15 cm×10 cm, S2=20 cm×15 cm).

An examination was carried out to study in randomized block design with three replications at Crop Research Centre, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut during rabi 2014-15, the evaluation of novel insecticides viz., imidadoprid, acephate, chlorpyriphos, fipronil, thiamethoxam, dimethoate, and pymetrozine, against L. erysimi revealed that all the treatments schedule proved better than control at all the time intervals after each spray. The thiamethoxam 25% WG @100 g/ha was found most effective treatment in reducing the aphids population followed by acephate 75 SP @ 500g/ha. The pymetrozine 50 WG @ 250 g/ha was recorded less effective. Among conventional insecticides imidadoprid 17.8 SL @ 150 ml/ha was found more effective than dimethoate 30% EC @ 1000 ml/ha and fipronil 5 SC @ 1000 ml/ha. The higher yield was obtained from thiamethoxam 25% WG @100 g/ha with (17.15 q/ha) whereas, highest cost benefit ratio is obtained from imidadoprid 17.8 SL @ 150 ml/ha with (1:9.54).

Even though rice is a major crop of Nepal, its’ productivity seems very low in South Asia due to high infestation of weeds. Therefore, a field research was conducted in the field of Lamjung Campus, Sundarbazar from July-October, 2015. Two Factorial Randomized Complete Block Design under direct seeding (DSR) and transplanted (TPR) cultivations with weeded and non-weeded check for diverse rice cultivars (US-382, Sukha-2, NR-10676, NR-10490 and Khumal-10) as treatments was executed in field with 3 replications. Statistical results indicated that Rotataindica, Fimbristylis miliacea, Ageratum conyzoides, Cyperusiria, Polygonum barbatum and Cynadon dactylon were found as the major weeds under both DSR and TPR whereas Paspalum distichum L., Alternanthera sessiles L., Echinochloa colona L., Digitariasp., Amischophacelus axillaris L., Echinochloa crusgalli L. were minor. Rotataindica was found the major weed in TPR. It was seemed that the highest weed population recorded for US-382(131.7/m2),when cultivated under TPR system but it was completely absent under DSR. Meanwhile Cynadon dactylon was completely absent in weeded region of TPR system, which in contrary was the highest in weeded field of DSR with variety US-382(18.7/m2). Similar results were found in case of biomass for varieties consisting higher number of weeds while it was lowest in weeded field of NR-10490 shown as TPR. Highest grain yield was obtain from the weeded region of US-382(7.7 t/ha) of TPR system whereas lowest yield was found in varieties NR-10490 and NR-10676 (1.8 t/ha) of non-weeded region of DSR system. With the increase in biomass of weed the yield of rice decrease gradually with co-relation, y = -0.0119x + (R² = 0.1251). Ten Napier grass genotypes (accessions) were assessed across 3 locations, Bako, Boneya Boshe and Gute, for forage dry matter (DM) yield, crude protein (CP) concentration, leaf:stem ratio, nutrient composition and digestibility characteristics during 2016 and 2017. The genotypes were evaluated in a randomized complete block design with 3 replications. Mean DM yield was higher for accession ILRI 16804 across all locations followed by ILRI 16801 and ILRI 16800. Leaf:stem ratio, CP concentration and CP and digestible organic matter (OM) yields also varied significantly among genotypes with the highest values obtained for accession ILRI 16804 across all locations, followed by ILRI 16800 and ILRI 16801. Yields of DM, CP and digestible OM and leaf:stem ratio were higher at Boneya Boshe and Gute than at Bako and higher during 2017 than during 2016. The consistently superior performance of ILRI 16804, ILRI 16801 and ILRI 16800 in both years across the 3 sites suggests that these genotypes should be studied further on farms and in differing environments before being recommended for general cultivation in this area. Examining performance with more frequent harvests and feeding studies with livestock would confirm the benefits to be obtained from planting these new accessions.
