Photocatalytic and photoelectrocatalytic degradation of methyl violet dye using Graphite/PbTiO3 composites has been conducted. The purposes of this research were to examine photocatalytic and photoelectrocatalytic degradation of methyl violet using Graphite/PbTiO3 composite. Synthesis of         Graphite/PbTiO3 composite was successfully performed via sol-gel method by mixing graphite powder, titanium tetra isopropoxide precursor solution (TTIP) and Pb(NO3)2. The Graphite/PbTiO3 composites were characterized using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform-Infra Red (FT-IR), and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The XRD diffractogram and IR spectrum of Graphite/PbTiO3 composite revealed all characteristic peak of graphite and PbTiO3. Photocatalytic degradation process showed that Graphite/PbTiO3 composite with ratio 1/1 decreased concentrations of methyl violet up to 92.20 %. While photoelectrocatalytic degradation processed for 30 minutes at neutral pH and 10 V voltage degraded the methyl violet until 94 %. However, the photoelectrocatalysis is still not significance to improve methyl violet degradation compared with photocatalysis. Copyright © 2018 BCREC Group. Thin, homogeneous ZrO2 films were obtained by spin coating method from ZrOCl2 8H2O solution, modified with polyethylene glycol (PEG) (Mw = 400). The films have thickness of 80 nm and refractive index of about 1.45, which varied with the amount of added PEG. The thermal behaviour of the precursor was studied with thermogravimetry and differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA). The X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis revealed the presence of a mixture of monoclinic and tetragonal ZrO2 polycrystalline phases with nanosized crystallites. The formation of hydrogen bonds among the organic and inorganic components was proved by means of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) analysis, while the different defect centres were investigated with electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images showed that the samples are dense and crack-free, with ganglia-like nanostructure. It was established that the addition of polymer resulted in the introduction of free volume in the films, which also varied with the content of PEG in the precursor solution.

Zn2SiO4:Eu3+, Dy3+ phosphors have been prepared through the sol-gel process. X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric and ddifferential thermal analysis (TG-DTA), FT-IR spectra and photoluminescence spectra were used to characterize the resulting phosphors. The results of XRD indicated that the phosphors crystallized completely at 1000oC. In Zn2SiO4:Eu3+,Dy3+ phosphors, the Eu3+ and Dy3+ show their characteristic red(613nm, 5D0-7F2), blue (481nm, 4F9/2–6H15/2) and yellow (577nm, 4F9/2–6H13/2) emissions.

Many studies have been reported in the literature related to YSZ films deposited on dense substrate or applied directly on the SOFC anode. However, there are not a lot of studies about the YSZ deposition on the cathode. The present work aims to obtain yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ), using the spray pyrolysis technique, for their application as electrolyte in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC). The films were obtained from a precursor solution containing zirconium and yttrium salts, dissolved in ethanol and propylene glycol (1:1), this solution was sprayed onto a heated LSM porous substrate. The substrate temperature was varied in order to obtain dense and homogeneous films. After deposition, the films were heat treated, aiming to crystallize and stabilize the zirconia cubic phase. The films were characterized by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR).

Sol gel indium tin oxide thin films (In: Sn = 90:10) were prepared by the sol-gel dipcoating process on silicon buffer substrate. The precursor solution was prepared by mixing SnCl2.2H2O and InCl3 dissolved in ethanol and acetic acid. The crystalline structure and grain orientation of ITO films were determined by X-ray diffraction. The surface morphology of the films was characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM). Optical transmission and reflectance spectra of the films were analyzed by using a UV-visible spectrophotometer. The transport properties of majority charge carriers for these films were studied by Hall measurement. ITO thin film with electrical resistivity of 7.6 ×10-3 3.cm, Hall mobility of approximately 2 cm2(Vs)-1 and free carrier concentration of approximately 4.2 ×1020 cm-3 are obtained for films 100 nm thick films. The I-V curve measurement showed typical I-V characteristic behavior of sol gel ITO thin films.

ABSTRACTThin films of SrBi2Nb2O9 (SBN) with thicknesses of 0.1, 0.2, and 0.4 μ were grown by Sol-gel technique on silicon, and annealed at 650°C. The SBN films were investigated by Raman scatering for the first time. Raman spectra in some of the samples present bands around 60, 167, 196, 222, 302, 451, 560, 771, 837, and 863 cm−1, which correspond to the SBN formation. The study indicates that the films are inhomogeneous, and only in samples with thicknesses 0.4 μ the SBN material was found in some places. The prominent Raman band around 870 cm−1, which is the A1g mode of the orthorhombic symmetry, is assigned to the symmetric stretching of the NbO6 octahedrals. The frequency of this band is found to shift in different places in the same sample, as well as from sample to sample. The frequency shifts and the width of the Raman bands are discussed in term of ions in non-equilibrium positions. FT-IR spectra reveal a sharp peak at 1260 cm−1, and two broad bands around 995 and 772 cm−1. The bandwidths of the latter two bands are believed to be associated with the presence of a high degree of defects in the films. The experimental results of the SBN films are compared with those obtained in SBT (T=Ta) films. X-ray diffraction and SEM techniques are also used for the structural characterization.

precursor solution was prepared using barium trifluoroacetae (Ba-TFA) and non-fluorine yttrium (Y) and copper (Cu) organic salts. The precursor solution was modified by benzalacetone (BzAcH), in which the Cu2+ were chelated with BzAcH, which preventing the loss of Cu in the pyrolysis process. Dense YBCO superconducting films with smooth surface, which confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), were repeatedly obtained through sol-gel process. X-ray diffraction (XRD) 2θ scanning and φ scanning indicated that the as-prepared YBCO films had good c-axis texture. YBCO films with superconducting transition temperature (TC) above 89K were obtained.

Titanium dioxide powders were synthesized by ultrasonic-assisted hydrolysis reaction of titanium tetra-isopropoxide at the low-temperature. The samples were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), powder X-ray diffraction (XRD). The photocatalytic activity of samples were investigated by the degradation of methyl orange under UV light radiation (6W, λ= 352nm) at room temperature. The results indicated that the products were mainly composed of high homogeneity anatase phases, and the methyl orange degradation rate can reach more than 90% under ultraviolet irradiation 180min. The photocatalytic activity of the samples prepared by ultrasonic method is higher than that of the samples prepared by conventional hydrolysis method.

AbstractIn the present paper, iron oxide nanoparticles coated by oleic acid have been synthesized in different conditions by coprecipitation method. For investigating the effect of time spent on adding the oleic acid to the precursor solution, two different processes have been considered. The as synthesized samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). Magnetic measurement was carried out at room temperature using a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The results show that the magnetic nanoparticles decorated with oleic acid decreased the saturation of magnetization. From the data, it can also be concluded that the magnetization of Fe3O4/oleic acid nanoparticles depends on synthesis conditions.

In this study, CuS/SiO2 composite modified aerogel was prepared by the incorporation of hollow spherical CuS into methyltrimethoxysilane-based SiO2 sol and modification with hexadecafluorodecyltriethoxysilane via acid-base catalyzed sol–gel reaction and drying under ambient pressure. The CuS/SiO2 composite modified aerogel was characterized by Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectrometry, scanning electron microscope (SEM), nitrogen gas adsorption and desorption and X-ray diffraction (XRD), respectively. The effects of CuS and fluorosilane concentration on density and porosity of aerogel, oleophobic and photocatalytic properties were evaluated. The results showed that structure and physical properties of aerogel had some effect by introducing CuS and fluorosilane, and the CuS/SiO2 composite modified aerogel with density of 0.146[Formula: see text]g/cm3 and specific surface area of 241[Formula: see text]m2/g achieved super-oleophobicity with oil contact angle of 152.8∘ and sliding angle of 10∘, and good photocatalytic properties for methylene blue.
