This work devotes to solving a class of delay fractional partial differential equations that arises in physical, biological, medical, and climate models. For this, a numerical scheme is implemented that applies operational matrices to convert the main problem into a system of algebraic equations; then, solving the resultant system leads to an approximate solution. The two-variable Chebyshev polynomials of the sixth kind, as basis functions in the proposed method, are constructed by the one-variable ones, and their operational matrices are derived. Error bounds of approximate solutions and their fractional and classical derivatives are computed. With the aid of these bounds, a bound for the residual function is estimated. Three illustrative examples demonstrate the simplicity and efficiency of the proposed method.

In the present work, the numerical solution of fractional delay integro-differential equations (FDIDEs) with weakly singular kernels is addressed by designing a Vieta–Fibonacci collocation method. These equations play immense roles in scientific fields, such as astrophysics, economy, control, biology, and electro-dynamics. The emerged fractional derivative is in the Caputo sense. By resultant operational matrices related to the Vieta–Fibonacci polynomials (VFPs) for the first time accompanied by the collocation method, the problem taken into consideration is converted into a system of algebraic equations, the solving of which leads to an approximate solution to the main problem. The existence and uniqueness of the solution of this category of fractional delay singular integro-differential equations (FDSIDEs) are investigated and proved using Krasnoselskii’s fixed-point theorem. A new formula for extracting the VFPs and their derivatives is given, and the orthogonality of the derivatives of VFPs is easily proved via it. An error bound of the residual function is estimated in a Vieta–Fibonacci-weighted Sobolev space, which shows that by properly choosing the number of terms of the series solution, the approximation error tends to zero. Ultimately, the designed algorithm is examined on four FDIDEs, whose results display the simple implementation and accuracy of the proposed scheme, compared to ones obtained from previous methods. Furthermore, the orthogonality of the VFPs leads to having sparse operational matrices, which makes the execution of the presented method easy.

A rational Chebyshev (RC) spectral collocation technique is considered in this paper to solve high-order linear ordinary differential equations (ODEs) defined on a semi-infinite domain. Two definitions of the derivative of the RC functions are introduced as operational matrices. Also, a theoretical study carried on the RC functions shows that the RC approximation has an exponential convergence. Due to the two definitions, two schemes are presented for solving the proposed linear ODEs on the semi-infinite interval with the collocation approach. According to the convergence of the RC functions at the infinity, the proposed technique deals with the boundary value problem which is defined on semi-infinite domains easily. The main goal of this paper is to present a comparison study for differential equations defined on semi-infinite intervals using the proposed two schemes. To demonstrate the validity of the comparisons, three numerical examples are provided. The obtained numerical results are compared with the exact solutions of the proposed problems.

Exploiting a comprehensive mathematical model for a class of systems governed by fractional optimal control problems is the significant focal point of the current paper. The efficiency index is a function of both control and state variables and the dynamic control system relies on Caputo fractional derivatives. The attributes of Bernoulli polynomials and their operational matrices of fractional Riemann–Liouville integrations are applied to convert the optimization problem to the nonlinear programing problem. Executing multi-verse optimizer, moth-flame optimization, and whale optimization algorithm terminate to the most excellent solution of fractional optimal control problems. A study on the advantage and performance between these approaches is analyzed by some examples. Comprehensive analysis ascertains that moth-flame optimization significantly solves the example. Furthermore, the privilege and advantage of preference with its accuracy are numerically indicated. Finally, results demonstrate that the objective function value gained by moth-flame optimization in comparison with other algorithms effectively decreased.

In this paper, fractional-order Bernoulli wavelets based on the Bernoulli polynomials are constructed and applied to evaluate the numerical solution of the general form of Caputo fractional order diffusion wave equations. The operational matrices of ordinary and fractional derivatives for Bernoulli wavelets are set via fractional Riemann–Liouville integral operator. Then, these wavelets and their operational matrices are utilized to reduce the nonlinear fractional problem to a set of algebraic equations. For solving the obtained system of equations, Galerkin and collocation spectral methods are employed. To demonstrate the validity and applicability of the presented method, we offer five significant examples, including generalized Cattaneo diffusion wave and Klein–Gordon equations. The implementation of algorithms exposes high accuracy of the presented numerical method. The advantage of having compact support and orthogonality of these family of wavelets trigger having sparse operational matrices, which reduces the computational time and CPU requirements.

In this paper, a numerical technique based on the Hartley series for solving a class of time-delayed optimal control problems (TDOCPs) is introduced. The main idea is converting such TDOCPs into a system of algebraic equations. Thus, we first expand the state and control variables in terms of the Hartley series with undetermined coefficients. The delay terms in the problem under consideration are expanded in terms of the Hartley series. Applying the operational matrices of the Hartley series including integration, differentiation, dual, product, delay, and substituting the estimated functions into the cost function, the given TDOCP is reduced to a system of algebraic equations to be solved. The convergence of the proposed method is extensively investigated. At last, the precision and applicability of the proposed method is studied through different types of numerical examples.

AbstractThe purpose of this paper is to provide sufficient conditions for the local and global existence of solutions for the general nonlinear distributed-order fractional differential equations in the time domain. Also, we provide sufficient conditions for the uniqueness of the solutions. Furthermore, we use operational matrices for the fractional integral operator of the second kind Chebyshev wavelets and shifted fractional-order Jacobi polynomials via Gauss–Legendre quadrature formula and collocation methods to reduce the proposed equations into systems of nonlinear equations. Also, error bounds and convergence of the presented methods are investigated. In addition, the presented methods are implemented for two test problems and some famous distributed-order models, such as the model that describes the motion of the oscillator, the distributed-order fractional relaxation equation, and the Bagley–Torvik equation, to demonstrate the desired efficiency and accuracy of the proposed approaches. Comparisons between the methods proposed in this paper and the existing methods are given, which show that our numerical schemes exhibit better performances than the existing ones.

An efficient technique, called pseudo-Galerkin, is performed to approximate some types of linear/nonlinear BVPs. The core of the performance process is the two well-known weighted residual methods, collocation and Galerkin. A novel basis of functions, consisting of first derivatives of Chebyshev polynomials, has been used. Consequently, new operational matrices for derivatives of any integer order have been introduced. An error analysis is performed to ensure the convergence of the presented method. In addition, the accuracy and the efficiency are verified by solving BVPs examples, including real-life problems.
