Background: Despite the many efforts made in the field of endoscope treatment procedures, the risk of infection remains topical. Methods: We conducted an evaluation audit of the manual cleaning procedure applied to flexible endoscopes at the Gastroenterology II department of the Mohamed V Military Instruction Hospital in Rabat. For this, we used a ready-to-use test for detecting ATP according to a bioluminescence reaction. Results: Biological control of the internal canal of the endoscopes used showed that the cleaning was not in conformity with the target value in 62% of the cases. External biological control was non-compliant in 54% of the cases. Conclusion: Compliance with the basic rules of hospital hygiene, the application of rigorous cleaning and disinfection procedures and the orientation towards automated endoscope disinfection systems are essential elements in the prevention and fight against post-endoscopic infections.

The article is devoted to I.V. Bertenson, the famous Russian hygienist and public figure, organizer of health care, a staunch follower of N.I. Pirogov. I.V. Bertenson made a significant contribution to the development of hospital hygiene in Russia. He combined the management of the first barrack hospital in Russia with the Petersburg provincial medical inspector’s post. A «School for the education of medical assistants» and a free clinic for visiting patients were also established on his initiative. I.V. Bertenson was one of the founders of the journal «Archive of forensic medicine and public hygiene» and the first editor of the «Bulletin of the Russian Red Cross Society.» In connection with the beginning of the cholera epidemic in the capital in 1866, Bertenson created one of the cholera shelters. A close friend, the first biographer editor of books N.I. Pirogov. Member of the international sanitary congresses and a member of many medical societies.

Biomedical waste is a real danger to public health and the environment. The quantity of this waste, mainly from hospitals, is constantly increasing, leading to various forms of pollution. This is a cross-sectional, observational study that took place in 2017. A questionnaire was submitted to nurses, doctors and those responsible for hospital hygiene and the operation of waste incinerators to assess the mechanisms and knowledge of medical staff in terms of biomedical waste management. It was confirmed that the hospital wastes are still poorly managed due to the absence of a plan or program for MPSD in all the structures studied, which attests to the non-application of the regulations in force and an inadequate internal management system in most laboratories. Due to the non-availability of health technicians and the lack of material resources in quality and quantity, a staff that is poorly informed about the regulations that apply to BMW, and a poorly recognized and disrespected BMW process that breaks even the clearest instructions regarding incineration and landfill disposal. It has become very urgent to adopt new strategies to be planned for an adequate training to be included for better medical waste management.

Gram-negative isolates producing carbapenemase enzymes is a great public health problem in developing countries and their control is challenging task due to the involvement of multiple factors including the practice of self-medication, use of antibiotics on animal farms, poor hospital hygiene, etc. During this study, we searched various databases for relevant publication on carbapenemase-producing isolates in Nepal. Various classes of carbapenemases had been reported in Nepal. Most frequent was the New Delhi Metallo beta lactamase with many variants where NDM-1 was most prevalent. Similarly, Oxacillinase and Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase producers were also prevalent in Nepal. While other carbapenemases like VIM, IPM, and DIM also detected. The isolates producing carbapenemases were extremely drug-resistant as they also co-produced various other carbapenemases, beta-lactamases, 16S rRNA methylase. Most isolates were resistant to many members of carbapenem, cephalosporin, quinolone, penicillin, aminoglycoside group of antibiotics. Such isolates had very few treatment options as only last line drugs like colistin, fosfomycin, and tigecycline was effective against most of these isolates. Carbapenemase production by almost all major human pathogens including E. coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterobacter. Citrobacter, Proteus, Providencia is a matter of concern because some of these enzymes are located on plasmids and pose rapid dissemination among various gram-negative pathogens. Timely surveillance for carbapenemase producers throughout the nation, their proper treatment, and proper hospital hygiene to prevent nosocomial infections by carbapenemase producers, controlled use of carbapenems, educating health care workers, students and the general public about the adverse effects of antimicrobial resistance is imminent.

Background: The quality of nursing care plays an important role in overall quality of medical care. Nurses and midwives perform care well, contributing to making patients feel secure, confident, cooperative, and increasing treatment efficiency and patient satisfaction. Objective: To assess the patient’s satisfaction with nursing care provided by clinical departments in Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital in 2019. Subject and method: A cross-sectional study on 600 inpatients at Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital. Results: The general proportion of patient statisfaction was 71.4%%. Patients were satisfied more with mental health services (77.8%), nursing care skills (75.5%) and the relationship with nurses (70.2%), consulting health education services (73.6%). Patient were less satisfied with hospital hygiene (61.5%). Conclusion: overall, more patient show enthusiasm with the medical care provided by nurse (71.4%). However, the patient’s satisfaction with hospital hygiene stood at only 61.5%. Keywords: Quality of nursingcare, nurse, midwife
