Introduction. Phenol is classified as priority pollutant. Phenol and its derivatives are stable in water, environmental contamination, and health concerns that are used as raw material in many chemical industries. This study investigated the removal of phenol by the reactivity of free sulfate radicals (SO4•–), activated by electrochemically generated Fe2+/Fe3+ ions which furthermore are evaluated to destroy phenol in aqueous solution. Materials and methods. In the present experimental study, electrocoagulation reactor by iron electrodes is used in the presence of persulfate ions to phenol removing from aqueous solutions. In this regard, the effect of four independent variables including pH, electric current, persulfate dosage, and initial phenol concentration were studied on phenol removal. Results. The study determined the optimum conditions for maximum phenol removal using electro-persulfate process (EPS) as pH 3, 7.4 mM persulfate dosage, 27.78 mA/cm2 current density, and 100 mg/L initial phenol concentration at 30-min reaction time. The results showed that the efficiency of phenol removal was directly related to the initial persulfate dosage. In addition, the pH values, less than the phenol pKa, has slight effect onto the phenol removal. However, it was inversely correlated with a highly alkaline pH and higher phenol concentration. Conclusions. The study concluded that electro-persulfate process is an effective and robust process that can be used for handling of phenol containing wastewater.

The pump-jet propulsor(PJP) performances under various rotational speeds (20~50 r/s) are analyzed for further studying the influence of the Reynolds number (Re) on the hydrodynamics of PJP, before this, the calculation model is verified by using the experiment data, it proves the present numerical method is proper to make a further study. The results indicate both the hydrodynamic coefficients of PJP and PJP components and the contours with dimensionless variables are present high similarity, yet the Re has the slight effect on the components performance, among which, the force coefficient of rotor is the least affected, with a relative error no more than 1%. Followed is the force coefficient of rotor stator, the maximum error is 2.1%, since the force of duct and stator is so low that has the slight effect on PJP, the total force error is less than 2%. However, the torque coefficient error is bigger with a value of about 3%. Besides, it is found that all hydrodynamic coefficients vary monotonically with rotating speed, the higher Re caused by increasing the rotational speed will contribute to enhance the work ability of rotor, thus cause a lower pressure at vortex core, and change the trajectory of TLV.

The conducted analysis aims to indicate the real threat of the depopulation process to Latvia's national security. The aim of the analysis is to examine the pace of changes, to indicate their main determinants and potential effects. The research hypothesis assumes that in the absence of an immediate, radical change in the demographic and social policy of the state, the population of Latvia will decrease to the level of approx. 1 million in the next 40-45 years. The conducted research shows a constantly decreasing natural increase and a high, negative level of migration. The carried out extrapolation of the population number confirms the hypothesis put forward in the study. The slight effect of the measures taken so far by the Latvian government to counter the depopolation process does not allow us to put an end to the optimistic scenarios of changes in demographic processes. An additional problem of the country's security is the issue of, above all, the Russian ethnic minority and the almost 10% share of non-citizens among the country's inhabitants.

The current paper has presented the study of the effect of different doses and terms of top-dressing with nitrogen fertilizers, in the form of ammonium nitrate, on the growth, development and biological productivity of the new spring triticale variety ‘Timiryazevskaya 42’. The study was carried out in 2015–2018 in the field trial laid down at the Field Experimental Station of the RSAU-Moscow Agricultural Academy named after K. A. Timiryazev (Moscow). It was identified that, depending on the weather conditions of the vegetation period, different doses of nitrogen fertilizers at different times had a different degree of positive effect on the indicators of the variety yield elements. When applying top-dressing, the variety ‘Timiryazevskaya 42’ showed high potential of its biological productivity, which reached 15.6 t/ha under optimal conditions. There has been established a high correlation between CHF (coefficient of head filling) and biological productivity (r = 0.97), which allows predicting in the middle of the vegetation period which variant of the trial will give the highest productivity. The biological productivity of the studied variety has been most influenced by productive tillering (r = 0.80), number and weight of grain per head (r = 0.71; r = 0.66, respectively), and there was a slight effect of 1000 grain weight (r = 0.64). The value of correlation between ‘length of head’ and biological productivity ranged from 0.54 in 2016 to 0.98 in 2018 for different variants of the trial, which indicated a strong effect of different meteorological conditions of the variety cultivation on the change of length of its head.

The effect and extent of changes in some biochemical parameters associated with pneumonia caused by Staphylococcus aureus were investigated in serum samples of Wistar rats. 0ne thousand five serum samples were collected randomly. The serum samples were tested for sodium, potassium, urea, creatinine and chloride by colorimetric methods. The concentrations of sodium ranged from 133.6±4.615 to 143.8±6.906, potassium values ranged from 5.78±1.26 to 8.02±0.779, urea gave a range of 10.143±0.69 to 14.444±2.404, chloride values ranged from 94.8±2.683 to 104.142±8.49, while creatinine values ranged from 0.489±0.033 to 1.7±2.404.  The results indicated that Staphylococcus aureus has a significant effect on the electrolyte balance causing hyperkalemia and hyponatremia when compared to normal blood value. It had a remarkable effect on creatinine level with only slight effect on urea.  There is need to monitor the electrolyte levels in Staphylococcus aureus infection since alteration in the electrolyte levels could be harmful to health.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of pre-treatment in ethyl alcohol for 5, 15, 60 and 180 s with the application of ultrasound on the course of convective drying and properties of carrot tissue directly after the treatment and after the drying process. The treatment in ethanol resulted in loss of mass, increase of dry matter, ethanol conductivity, extractivity of carotenoids with a slight effect on the colour of carrot tissue after the treatment. The utilization of ultrasound during immersion in ethanol contributed to additional increase of conductivity of ethanol, and extractivity of carotenoids. The immersion in ethanol virtually did not affect the drying kinetics, which can be explained by the increase of shrinkage of the tissue in relation to the untreated dried tissue. Despite the lack of the influence on the drying course in the ethanol-immersed carrot, an increase of the carotenoid content (up to 135%) and the rehydration ability (up to 19%) was noted with the simultaneously unchanged colour of dried carrot in comparison to untreated dried material, which indicates the possibility to improve the quality of dried carrot after immersion in ethanol.

The problem of determining an accurate assessment of the actor’s ability to solve a problem of a certain degree of difficulty is considered in this work. The assessment is determined by a group of actors in the process of solving local problems, while the tasks are included in the competence of this group. Actors can be carriers of both natural and artificial intelligence. Condorcet Jury Theorem, Georg Rasсh Model, method of the evolutionary decision reconciliation (EDR) are used in the process of solving the problem posed. Related Experiences Assessment Scale is given. The measure of academic success is better predicted not by those experiences that are manifested during study activities, but those that arise along on the way to university. There is a slight effect of the influence of time on the measure of effort.

ABSTRACTCRISPR RNAs (crRNAs) directing target DNA cleavage by type V-A Cas12a nucleases consist of repeat-derived 5’-scaffold moiety and 3’-spacer moiety. We demonstrate that removal of most of the 20-nucleotide scaffold has only a slight effect on in vitro target DNA cleavage by Cas12a ortholog from Acidaminococcus sp (AsCas12a). In fact, residual cleavage was observed even in the presence of a 20-nucleotide crRNA spacer part only, while crRNAs split into two individual moieties (scaffold and spacer RNAs) catalyzed highly specific and efficient cleavage of target DNA. Our data also indicate that AsCas12a combined with split crRNA forms a stable complex with the target. These observations were also confirmed in lysates of human cells expressing AsCas12a. The ability of the AsCas12a nuclease to be programmed with split crRNAs opens new lines of inquiry into the mechanisms of target recognition and cleavage and will further facilitate genome editing techniques based on Cas12a nucleases.

Emergent buoyantly rising submarines encounter excess roll problems, partially owing to waves that significantly affect their behavior. This study predicts the behavior of a submarine, including when it rises in static water, beam sea, head wave, following wave, 30∘ bow wave, 60∘ bow wave, 30∘ quartering wave, and 60∘ quartering wave, using the computational fluid dynamics method. The beam sea has a slight effect on pitch prior to the submarine rising to the water surface, but the maximum roll angle in the beam sea is 4.43 times that in static water. After a submarine submerges in water, the pitching oscillation does not decay quickly owing to the yaw angle. The head wave and the following wave have a continuous significant effect on the pitch; the submarine sail remains under the water surface after it submerges from the highest position. The head wave and the following wave have a slight effect on the roll and yaw before the submarine rises to the water surface; however, the roll angle suddenly increases after the submarine submerges from the highest position. As the initial angle between the submarine centerline and wave direction increases, the effect of waves on the longitudinal motion decreases. The amplitude of the pitching oscillation decreases with an increase in the initial angle between the submarine centerline and wave direction, and the waterline when the submarine oscillates on the water surface decreases. The difference in the maximum roll angle between when a submarine rises in an oblique wave and when it rises in beam sea is below 6.3∘. Submarines should try to avoid rising in a head wave and the following wave.
