A fluid withdrawn by a moving inclined surface with account for the near-wall slip effect is analyzed theoretically. A non-Newtonian fluid task is stated in general form. The solving of this task enables revealing the basic physical principles and mechanisms of the process over the entire withdrawal velocity range realized in practice. The case of withdrawing a finite yield stress viscoplastic fluid is considered.

It is known that the dripping of a liquid film on the underside of a plate can be suppressed by tilting the plate so as to cause a sufficiently strong flow. This paper uses two-dimensional numerical simulations in a closed-flow framework to study several aspects of this phenomenon. It is shown that, in quasi-equilibrium conditions, the onset of dripping is closely associated with the curvature of the wave crests approaching a well-defined maximum value. When dynamic effects become significant, this connection between curvature and dripping weakens, although the critical curvature remains a useful reference point as it is intimately related to the short length scales promoted by the Rayleigh–Taylor instability. In the absence of flow, when the film is on the underside of a horizontal plate, the concept of a limit curvature is relevant only for small liquid volumes close to a critical value. Otherwise, the drops that form have a smaller curvature and a large volume. The paper also illustrates the peculiarly strong dependence of the dripping transition on the initial conditions of the simulations. This feature prevents the development of phase maps dependent only on the governing parameters (Reynolds number, Bond number, etc.) similar to those available for film flow on the upper side of an inclined plate.

The study focuses on the aggregation kinematics in the quadratic convective magneto-hydrodynamics of ethylene glycol-titania ([Formula: see text]) nanofluid flowing through an inclined flat plate. The modified Krieger-Dougherty and Maxwell-Bruggeman models are used for the effective viscosity and thermal conductivity to account for the aggregation aspect. The effects of an exponential space-dependent heat source and thermal radiation are incorporated. The impact of pertinent parameters on the heat transfer coefficient is explored by using the Response Surface Methodology and Sensitivity Analysis. The effects of several parameters on the skin friction and heat transfer coefficient at the plate are displayed via surface graphs. The velocity and thermal profiles are compared for two physical scenarios: flow over a vertical plate and flow over an inclined plate. The nonlinear problem is solved using the Runge–Kutta-based shooting technique. It was found that the velocity profile significantly decreased as the inclination of the plate increased on the other hand the temperature profile improved. The heat transfer coefficient decreased due to the increase in the Hartmann number. The exponential heat source has a decreasing effect on the heat flux and the angle of inclination is more sensitive to the heat transfer coefficient than other variables. Further, when radiation is incremented, the sensitivity of the heat flux toward the inclination angle augments at the rate 0.5094% and the sensitivity toward the exponential heat source augments at the rate 0.0925%. In addition, 41.1388% decrement in wall shear stress is observed when the plate inclination is incremented from [Formula: see text] to [Formula: see text].

Nowadays, the problem of solar thermal absorption plays a vital role in energy storage in power plants, but within this phenomenon solar systems have a big challenge in storing and regulating energies at extreme temperatures. The solar energy absorber based on hybrid nanofluids tends to store thermal energy, and the hybrid nanofluids involve the stable scattering of different nano dimension particles in the conventional solvent at a suitable proportion to gain the desired thermophysical constraints. The authors focus on the behavior of the inclined plate absorber panel as the basic solution of water is replaced by a hybrid nanofluid, including Cu (Copper) and Al2O3 (Aluminum Oxide), and water is utilized as a base surfactant in the current investigation. The inclined panel is integrated into a porous surface with the presence of solar radiations, Joule heating, and heat absorption. The fundamental equations of the flow and energy model are addressed with the similarity transformations. The homotopy analysis method (HAM) via Mathematica software is used to explore the solution to this problem. Furthermore, the important physical characteristics of the rate of heat transfer, omission and absorption of solar radiation, and its impact on the solar plant are observed.

In this work, based on the A356 alloy, a novel Al–Si–Mg–Cu–Fe–Sr alloy with good mechanical property and high thermal conductivity was developed. The semi-solid slurry of the alloy was prepared via the vibrating contraction inclined plate. The microstructure evolution and solidification behavior of the alloy were investigated. The results demonstrated that, compared with the A356 alloy, the enhanced property of the Al–Si–Mg–Cu–Fe–Sr alloy was associated with the size of primary α-Al grains and morphology of eutectic Si phases. In addition, the preparation process parameters of semi-solid slurries, including the pouring temperature, inclination angle, and vibration frequency, had a crucial effect on the size and morphology of primary α-Al grains. The optimized pouring temperature, inclination angle, and vibration frequency were 670 °C, 45°, and 60 Hz, respectively. In this condition, for the primary α-Al grains, a minimum grain diameter of 64.31 µm and a maximum shape factor of 0.80 were obtained. This work provides a reference for the application of the alloy with high performance in the field of automobile and communication.

The bifurcation analysis of a film falling down an hybrid surface is conducted via the numerical solution of the governing lubrication equation. Instability phenomena, that lead to film breakage and growth of fingers, are induced by multiple contamination spots. Contact angles up to 75∘ are investigated due to the full implementation of the free surface curvature, which replaces the small slope approximation, accurate for film slope lower than 30∘. The dynamic contact angle is first verified with the Hoffman–Voinov–Tanner law in case of a stable film down an inclined plate with uniform surface wettability. Then, contamination spots, characterized by an increased value of the static contact angle, are considered in order to induce film instability and several parametric computations are run, with different film patterns observed. The effects of the flow characteristics and of the hybrid pattern geometry are investigated and the corresponding bifurcation diagram with the number of observed rivulets is built. The long term evolution of induced film instabilities shows a complex behavior: different flow regimes can be observed at the same flow characteristics under slightly different hybrid configurations. This suggest the possibility of controlling the rivulet/film transition via a proper design of the surfaces, thus opening the way for relevant practical application.
