Multiple vibration modes of an engineering structure might be excited by earthquake ground motions. Multiple tuned mass dampers (MTMDs) are widely used to control these multi-mode vibrations. However, in the commonly used MTMD system, the mass element in each tuned mass damper (TMD) is normally assumed to be the same. To improve the performance of MTMDs for seismic-induced vibration control, non-uniform MTMD masses are adopted in the present study to improve the mass utilization of TMD, and a location factor is proposed to determine the best location of each TMD in the MTMD system. The effectiveness of the proposed method is validated through numerical study. The results show that the proposed method effectively reduces the seismic responses of the structure induced by multiple vibration modes.

The present study is designed to identify the factors influencing organizational performance based on native research work carried out through field study. Adopting descriptive cum analytical research design, this study is based on primary data obtained from the hotels located inside the Kathmandu valley of Nepal through the use of a five-point Likert-type questionnaire. With the help of the random sampling technique, 130 employees working in 23 hotels in the position of executive, managerial and officer’s level are taken as sample respondents. Four different variables affecting hotels' performance i.e., qualification, training and experience, administrative efficiency and location are taken as the independent variables and organizational performance as the dependent variable.  Descriptive and inferential statistics have been used in this study. All the variables obtained Cronbach alpha value greater than .65, which shows the consistency on items taken for the study. The correlation analysis showed a strong positive correlation between organization performance and performance factors in the Nepalese hotel sector. Moreover, the regression analysis indicated that qualification of the employee, administrative efficiency of hotel management and training and experience provided to the employee are found strong predictors of organizational performance but the location factor was not found the determinant of organization performance in the Nepalese hotel sector. This study can further expand by adopting other variables affecting organizational performance in the hospitality sectors of Nepal.

The problem of poverty in JABODETABEK when measured by the percentage of poverty has decreased but tends to be slow in 2014-2018 and this problem is a challenge for the government because the poverty rate is still high in JABODETABEK, even though this region has high industrial activity in Java and is a location factor that affects close to the centre of government. This happens because economic growth is the most dominant anti-poverty instrument. This study uses panel data regression analysis technique with the data used is secondary data obtained from the Central Statistics Agency. The results obtained indicate that economic growth has a positive and significant effect on poverty. Suggestions for reducing poverty levels are that local governments need to encourage an increase in the rate of economic growth in the areas of Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi.

In information security, it is widely accepted that the more authentication factors are used, the higher the security level. However, more factors cannot guarantee usability in real usage because human and other non-technical factors are involved. This paper proposes the use of all possible authentication factors, called comprehensive-factor authentication, which can maintain the required security level and usability in real-world implementation. A case study of an implementation of a secure time attendance system that applies this approach is presented. The contribution of this paper is therefore to provide a security scheme seamlessly integrating all classical authentication factors plus a location factor into one single system in a real environment with a security and usability focus. Usability factors emerging from the study are related to a seamless process including the least number of actions required, the lowest amount of time taken, health safety during the pandemic, and data privacy compliance.

The level of poverty in a Regency/city in South Sulawesi in 2017 is different. The grouping of poverty status can be done based on the value of the HeadCount Index (HCI) of South Sulawesi. Factors affecting poverty will differ for each area being observed. The statistical modeling method developed for data analysis by taking into account the location factor is semiparametric Geographical Weighted Logistic Regression (GWLR). The GWLR semiparametric Model consists of parameters that are affected by the location and not affected by the location. The parameter estimator of the GWLR semiparametric model used in this research was obtained using the maximum method likelihood estimation. The result of a semiparametric model of GWLR each district/city in South Sulawesi in 2017 has the value Estimator parameter for global parameters is the same value for each location, namely, a3 = 0.1724, a4 = 0.0204, and a6 = 0.0261 whereas the parameter estimator for local parameters has different values so that GWLR semiparametric model of each district/city.

AbstractLocation choice is a crucial planning task with major influence on a company’s future orientation and competitiveness. It is quite complex, since multiple location factors are usually of decision-relevance, incomparable, and sometimes conflictual. Further, ongoing urbanization is associated with locational dynamics posing major challenges for the regional location management of companies and municipalities. For example, respecting urban space as location factor, a scarcity growing over time leads to different assessment and requirements on a company’s behalf. For both companies and municipalities, there is a need for location development which implies an active change of location factor characteristics. Accordingly, considering locational dynamics is vital, as they may be decisive in the location decision-making. Although certain dynamics are considered within conventional Facility Location Problem (FLP) approaches, a systematic consideration of active location development is missing so far. Consequently, they may propagate long-term unfavorable location decisions, as major potentials associated with company-driven and municipal development measures are neglected. Therefore, this paper introduces a comprehensive decision support framework for the Regional Facility Location and Development planning Problem (RFLDP). It provides an operationalization of development measures, and thus anticipates dynamic adaptations to the environment. An established multi-criteria approach is extended to this new application. A complementary guideline ensures its meaningful applicability by practitioners. Based on a real-life case study, the decision support framework’s strength for practical application is demonstrated. Here, major advantages over conventional FLP approaches are highlighted. It is shown that the proposed methodology results in alternative location decisions which are structurally superior.
