We discuss some main aspects of theories of gravity containing nonlocal terms in view of cosmological applications. In particular, we consider various extensions of general relativity based on geometrical invariants as [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] gravity where [Formula: see text] is the Ricci curvature scalar, [Formula: see text] is the Gauss–Bonnet topological invariant, [Formula: see text] the torsion scalar and the operator [Formula: see text] gives rise to nonlocality. After selecting their functional form by using Noether symmetries, we find out exact solutions in a cosmological background. It is possible to reduce the dynamics of selected models and to find analytic solutions for the equations of motion. As a general feature of the approach, it is possible to address the accelerated expansion of the Hubble flow at various epochs, in particular the dark energy issues, by taking into account nonlocality corrections to the gravitational Lagrangian. On the other hand, it is possible to search for gravitational nonlocal effects also at astrophysical scales. In this perspective, we search for symmetries of [Formula: see text] gravity also in a spherically symmetric background and constrain the free parameters, Specifically, by taking into account the S2 star orbiting around the Galactic Center SgrA[Formula: see text], it is possible to study how nonlocality affects stellar orbits around such a massive self-gravitating object.

Abstract The nonlocal effects of dimers consisted of two cylinders are studied, whose cross section is elliptical. Importantly, the results with dimers whose cross section is circular are compared. For comparison, the curvature of the ellipse is set the same with the circle, and four different geometries are considered. The electric field enhancement at the gap center and the absorption spectrum of the dimers are calculated. For the second geometry, either the electric field enhancement at the gap center or the absorption spectrum is approximately calculated using the first geometry, the frequencies corresponding to the peaks are totally different. Similarly, for the fourth geometry, either the electric field enhancement at the gap center or the absorption spectrum is approximately calculated using the third geometry, the disciplines of the peak values change as radius of curvature increases are totally different.

AbstractMachine-learned force fields combine the accuracy of ab initio methods with the efficiency of conventional force fields. However, current machine-learned force fields typically ignore electronic degrees of freedom, such as the total charge or spin state, and assume chemical locality, which is problematic when molecules have inconsistent electronic states, or when nonlocal effects play a significant role. This work introduces SpookyNet, a deep neural network for constructing machine-learned force fields with explicit treatment of electronic degrees of freedom and nonlocality, modeled via self-attention in a transformer architecture. Chemically meaningful inductive biases and analytical corrections built into the network architecture allow it to properly model physical limits. SpookyNet improves upon the current state-of-the-art (or achieves similar performance) on popular quantum chemistry data sets. Notably, it is able to generalize across chemical and conformational space and can leverage the learned chemical insights, e.g. by predicting unknown spin states, thus helping to close a further important remaining gap for today’s machine learning models in quantum chemistry.

The paper is concerned with the asymptotically consistent theory of nanoscale plates capturing the spatial nonlocal effects. The three-dimensional (3D) elasticity equations for a thin plate are used as the governing equations. In the general case, the plate is acted upon by dynamic body forces varying in the thickness direction, and by variable surface forces. The thickness of the plate is assumed to be greater than the characteristic micro/nanoscale measure and much smaller than the in-plane characteristic dimension (e.g., the wave or deformation length). The 3D constitutive equations of gradient elasticity are used to link the fields of nonlocal stresses and strains. Using the asymptotic approach, a sequence of relations for stresses and displacements in the form of polynomials in the transverse coordinate with coefficients depending on time and in-plane coordinates was obtained. The asymptotically consistent 2D differential equation governing vibration (or static deformation) of a plate accounting for both transverse shears and the spatial nonlocal contribution of the stress and strain fields was derived. It was revealed that capturing nonlocal effects in all directions leads to an increase in the correction factor compared with the well-known 2D theories based on kinematic hypotheses and the Eringen-type gradient constitutive equations. The effect of the internal length scales parameters on free low-frequency vibrations and displacements of a plate is discoursed.

Abstract In this paper a mathematical model describing the heat transport in a spherical nanoparticle subject to Newton heating at its surface is presented. The governing equations involve a phonon hydrodynamic equation for the heat flux and the classical energy equation that relates the heat flux and the temperature. Assuming radial symmetry the model is reduced to two partial differential equation, one for the radial component of the flux and one for the temperature. We solve the model numerically by means of finite differences. The resulting temperature profiles show characteristic wave-like behaviour consistent with the non Fourier components in the hydrodynamic equation.

Abstract Mutiple experimental results indicate the existence of cosmophysical effects which influence parameters of nuclear decays and chemical reactions in lab. conditions. In particular, variations of nucleus decay parameters are detected which amplitudes are of the order 10−3 and periods of one year, 24 hours or about one month. Similar influence of solar activity on nuclear decays and chemical reactions also was reported. We argue that such deviations from radioactive decay law and other similar effects can be described by novel quantum nonlocality mechanism, different from standard EPR-Bohm nonlocality. Modified Doebner-Goldin model applied for the description of dynamical nonlocal effects concerned with nuclear decays.

AbstractA continuum model of piezomagnetic material with strain, magnetic and piezomagnetic coupling gradient effects is proposed using a variational principle in this work. This model is employed to an anti-plane problem, and a general solution is constructed in polar coordinates. Special attention is paid to microstructural effects on the magnetic and mechanical response in an infinite piezomagnetic medium with a void. It is found that the microstructural length scales have a significant influence on the mechanic and magnetic fields. The three length scales (corresponding to strain, magnetic and piezomagnetic coupling gradients) are indispensable to describe the nonlocal effects of piezomagnetism. Additionally, controlling the direction and magnitude of the magnetic field at the edge of the void can be achieved by adjusting the microstructural length scales of the piezomagnetic medium.
