This article provides an overview of developments in the field of Black/Africana/Pan African psychology over the past 50 years. It has evolved toward production of psychological knowledge grounded in an emic cultural paradigm consistent with the understandings emerging from classical African civilization and across the Diaspora. The historical context for the development of a Black/Africana cultural paradigm is discussed, including an analysis of the failure of Eurowestern psychology to effectively address the mental health needs of people of African ancestry, particularly as exemplified in the experience of Non-immigrant Africans in the Americas (NIAAs). Readers are introduced to the rise of African-centered cultural frames of reference, values, and psychological models, practices, and strategies. The development of Optimal Psychology or Optimal Conceptual Theory (OCT) is highlighted. OCT is a comprehensive theory successfully implemented, utilized, and researched for more than 40 years. The production of psychological knowledge built upon a cultural paradigm rooted in the wisdom tradition of African deep thought traceable to the birthplace of all humankind is essential to a comprehensive understanding of humanity and will be described.

Learning is not merely a relationship between stimulus and response, but learning from the point of view of cognitivism is a deep thought process. Cognitivism prioritizes the learning process rather than learning outcomes and reveals that there is a need for learning methods that can activate student cognitive in the learning process. Jerome Bruner provides 3 stages of learning that can influence children's cognitive development, namely through active, iconic and symbolic learning. Bruner, who is an expert in cognitive developmental psychology, contributed discovery leaning learning theory or often called discovery learning. Bruner has also provided a cognitive learning step that he designed with six learning steps, starting from stimulation, problem identification, data collection, data processing to verification and conclusion drawing. The research was conducted qualitatively through observation and interviews by looking at the role of discovery learning theory in Islamic Islamic education learning at SMPN 3 Kalasan Sleman Yogyakarta. The results of the study reveal that discovery learning theory is very beneficial for students' cognitive development which is also well implemented, although not all learning materials can use this theory.

A Large number of predictors have been built based on different data sets for predicting different post-translational modification sites. However, limited to our knowledge, most of them gave an overfitting estimation of their generalization ability in new data because of the intrinsic trait—not considering the experimental sources of the new data—of the cross-validation method. Thus, we proposed and explored a new method—the experiment-split method—imitating the blinded assessment to deal with the overfitting problem in the new data. The experiment-split method logically split the training and test data based on the data’s different experimental sources, and the new data can be regarded as the data from different experimental sources. To specifically illustrate the experiment-split method, we combined an actual application, DeepKme—a predictor built by us for the lysine methylation sites, to demonstrate how it be used in the true scenarios. We compared the cross-validation method with the experiment-split method. The result suggested the experiment-split method could effectively relieve the overfitting compared with the cross-validation method and may be widely used in the field of identification participated by multiple experiments. We believe DeepKme would facilitate the related researchers’ deep thought of the experiment-split method and the overfitting phenomenon, and of course, advance the study of the lysine methylation and similar fields.

This chapter assesses composer/pianist Michael Finnissy’s Outside Fort Tregantle (2008). This song is less of a display piece than a contemplative reverie. Unsurprisingly, though, the pianist is given a dauntingly virtuoso, rhythmically and harmonically complex part. Through all this, the singer drifts serene and undeterred, in gently undulating lines, creating an almost impressionistic effect. Good breath control, clarity, and evenness of tone are prime requisites, and time will need to be allowed for familiarization with pitches. The music’s modernist idiom is highly individual and fascinating, and to capture its haunting quality requires deep thought and insight. At the slow opening tempo, phrases will need plenty of support in order to be sung in one span. Ultimately, for the intelligent singer, the piece constitutes a distinctive test of empathy and sensitivity.

This paper examines Nietzsche’s idea of eternal recurrence and the notions of reincarnation in Onyewuenyi and Majeed with a view to showing how convergence and divergence of thought in the Nietzschean, Onyewuenyean and Majeedean philosophy contexts can inform cross-cultural philosophizing. Nietzsche’s idea of eternal recurrence represents his deep thought, which claims that every aspect of life returns innumerable times, in an identical fashion. On the other hand, Onyewuenyi posits that reincarnation is un-African as he conceives it as the theory that when the soul separates from the body, at death, it informs another body for another span of life, while Majeed sees evidence of the African rootedness of the belief in reincarnation, based on his study of the Akan people of Ghana and concedes that the belief, itself, is irrational, since there is no scientific or empirical basis for it. Attempts are made to highlight the dynamics of Nietzsche’s idea of eternal recurrence and to articulate the essential ingredients of Onyewuenyean and Majeedean conceptions of reincarnation. These forms of thought will be examined critically to exhibit their convergence and divergence in the context of cross-cultural philosophizing. Keywords: eternal recurrence, reincarnation, will to power, vital force, cross-cultural philosophy, spirit-world

The oldest arguments justifying formal analysis of literature, of course, grow out of a longer tradition in aesthetics, one having its roots in the development of a theory of the aesthetic in the eighteenth century. Ultimately, to emphasize the content over the form in literary interpretation is to emphasize forms of aesthetic value other than the beautiful and the sublime: to read for the content, and particularly for the intellectual content, is to value a book because it is deep, thought-provoking, and profound. Yet far from ignoring a text’s aesthetic nature, in fact these latter ways of reading offer the possibility for a renewed justification for literary aesthetics, one especially salient given the deep skepticism that formalist accounts of aesthetic value evoke.

In the month of May 2019, Ms Priya Vaidehi who works as a chartered accountant in a small firm in the city of Pune was pondering about her personal investment. While surfing on social media on the sunny hot afternoon of 2 May 2019, she came across the news of the biggest merger deal in the Indian telecom sector. The news was about how Britain’s Vodafone Group merged its Indian subsidiary with Idea Cellular, to create the country’s largest telecom firm. They mentioned how the combined entity will accelerate the pan-India expansion of wireless broadband services and also expand financial inclusion through mobile money services. Since the merger, the network has an outreach of 92 per cent of population of India. Ms Vaidehi planning for her future investments narrowed down her investment search to do a deeper analysis of the merger of two telecom giants Vodafone and Idea. The Indian telecommunication market has a subscriber base of 1.20 billion and is rapidly growing. The country’s wireless subscriptions has witnessed compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 19.62 per cent to reach 1,183.41 million in the year 2018. Over the past few years, from the announcement of merger to the declaration of completion of merger, she has noticed that there has been volatility in the share price of Idea Cellular. Though the subscriber base of Vodafone, Idea’s is around 400 million, and sales had gone up 53.5 per cent in the third quarter of FY 2018–2019, but the share price had been plunging to an average fall of 14 per cent. She was in deep thought whether she should invest in buying the shares of Vodafone Idea? Will her instinct help her or the knowledge of financial markets aid in taking the right decision?

Curriculum development requires a strong foundation and is based on the results of deep thought and research. And evaluation or assessment in the curriculum is useful to determine the level of achievement of the curriculum. Based on this we can know that the role of the curriculum in formal education in schools is very important and has a major influence in determining the achievement of educational goals. In the process, the teacher acts as a technical implementer, such as implementers, adapters, developers, and researchers.
