Abstract This article describes the labor market insertion experiences of a group of professional Venezuelan immigrants in northern Chile. Using a qualitative methodology, fourteen people who met the inclusion criteria were interviewed. The participants' discourses show that their experiences have been stressful because they have not been able to revalidate their degrees, have to take on jobs for which they are overqualified, and suffer exploitation and discrimination. The stories are analyzed based on previous studies and related theory, finding that the main factor affecting this reality is the current Chilean immigration legislation, which has an orientation based on control and national security. It is concluded that the current immigration legislation facilitates immigrants' labor precariousness and contributes to their situation of vulnerability.

In this article, we interrogate the concept of tuput (“to die and come out”) and the subsequent equation of it with reincarnation by the Ngas people of Plateau State in Nigeria, wherein it is claimed that persons who have undergone the ritual processes of tuput-enablement reincarnate within 2 days of their death, not by way of rebirth through conception and delivery but by just mysteriously reappearing in their full former selves and then resuming their normal life as though they never died. This claim raises a stir in us. In exploring the tuput phenomenon, we interviewed some indigenes of the Ngas community concerning the phenomenon. Thereafter, we situated the claims about tuput within the framework of existing theories of reincarnation and juxtaposed them with resurrection—another related theory of afterlife. Our findings reveal among other things that (a) although tuput is a theory of afterlife, it is not reincarnation. Tuput comes closer to the theory of resurrection as a theory of afterlife; (b) belief in tuput is unreflective and its associated claims are laden with internal contradictions; and (c) although tuput suffers the defects listed in (b), it nevertheless has some underlying values and promises that could be harnessed to enrich human knowledge and expand the scope of existing literature, if investigated further.

This chapter traces the origins and sources of jus cogens. Jus cogens has been developed largely by international legal scholarship, which has attempted to identify the theoretical foundations of a world juridical order. Every classic author in the field of international law expounds a theory of the source of obligation and the nature of international law. They typically distinguish between voluntary or consensual law and compulsory norms that bind a state independently of its will. Some early writers found the source of compulsory law in divine or religious law binding all humans and human institutions. A related theory derives the concept of jus cogens from general principles of law, noting the existence of overriding public policy and superior norms in all legal systems. Finally, positivists rely on state consent for the origin, content, and functions of jus cogens.

We give a general description of the interplay that can occur between local and global anomalies, in terms of (co)bordism. Mathematically, such an interplay is encoded in the non-canonical splitting of short exact sequences known to classify invertible field theories. We study various examples of the phenomenon in 2, 4, and 6 dimensions. We also describe how this understanding of anomaly interplay provides a rigorous bordism-based version of an old method for calculating global anomalies (starting from local anomalies in a related theory) due to Elitzur and Nair.

This study aims to discuss the influence of Instagram social media on traveling interest using the theory of interest in visiting Philip Kotler, et al., (2006: 198) in Marketing for Hospitality and Tourism assumes that buying interest in consumers can be equated with interest in visiting tourists. This can be seen in the same behavior. There is no related theory regarding interest and decision to visit, but in accordance with Kotler's theory, et al., That visiting interest is included with purchase interest measured by the same indicator. Data is collected by distributing questionnaires to respondents. The data analysis that we use is a simple linear regression. The results showed that the Instagram Traveling Social Media variable had a significant effect on Visiting Interest (Y) followers to a destination). It is known that the beta coefficient of this analysis is 73.1% and 16.9% is influenced by other variables not included in this study. Instagram Social Media Variable Indicator which is dominant influence is the hashtag indicator with a mean value of 4.28 and the item that dominates the hashtag indicator is the Instagram Traveling account that gives messages using a hashtag that can be used to disseminate photos so that followers can easily find them. The article discusses the motivational factors of visual art institution consumers. Analysis includes Falk’s identity-related theory of motivation for visiting art institutions that discusses how visitors’ experience begins before visiting a museum and is focused on the consumer’s attitude (identity) validation. Consumers’ motivation to visit an art institution depends on not only the proposals provided by the institution and their value to the consumer, but also on accessibility, the environment, and the personnel’s communication. The article introduces the motivations, expectations of consumers of the services provided by Kaunas Picture Gallery as well as evaluation of the services and infrastructure provided by the organisation obtained during study Visitors’ Expectations in Visual Art Institutions.
