PURPOSE: Sport-related concussions (SRC) are common, especially in rugby (3.00 incidents per 1000 athletic exposures) and American football (0.08 per 1000 athletic exposures). Physiotherapists should be aware of how to assess and manage cases with SRC. The purpose of this study was to assess the knowledge of SRC among physiotherapists. METHODS: The self-administered survey consisted of 16 questions related to physiotherapists’ knowledge in managing SRC patients, case identification, and preventive measures. Countries were divided into regions based on World Physiotherapy regions. Data were analysed using a one-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) with Tamhane’s T2 post hoc test. RESULTS: A total of 276 male (53.4 %) and 241 female (46.6%) physiotherapists participated. The survey scores ranged from 40%to 100%, with an average score of 62.7%. A master’s degree was the highest educational qualification (46.4%) recorded. There was a difference in the score based on participant qualifications (Welch’s F (4, 58.37) = 15.03, p <  0.001). Participants with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree (73.8±14.6%) or a fellowship (73.0±19.5%) or a masters’ degree (MSc) (62.7±18.5%) obtained greater scores than participants holding a bachelors’ degree (56.7±13.8%, p <  0.001). Furthermore, there was no difference in the survey score based on participants’ region (Welch’s F (4, 143.3) = 0.08, p = 0.988). CONCLUSIONS: The results suggested that many physiotherapists worldwide are aware of the current SRC assessment and management guidelines.

The foreign students who study at Russian universities continue learning Russian at bachelors’ degree. The main difficulty which professors face while teaching Russian as a foreign language lies in the fact that foreign students are often unprepared to learn specific vocabulary, necessary for educational and professional activities. A totally different approach for presentation of specific vocabulary has been developed by the authors of “Training for professional activity in Russian of “Public Relations” speciality foreign students” (L.V. Adonina, S.V. Lazarev, S.V. Smirnova, O.S. Fisenko).

BackgroundThere are known clinical benefits associated with investments in nursing. Less is known about their value.AimsTo compare surgical patient outcomes and costs in hospitals with better versus worse nursing resources and to determine if value differs across these hospitals for patients with different mortality risks.MethodsRetrospective matched-cohort design of patient outcomes at hospitals with better versus worse nursing resources, defined by patient-to-nurse ratios, skill mix, proportions of bachelors-degree nurses and nurse work environments. The sample included 62 715 pairs of surgical patients in 76 better nursing resourced hospitals and 230 worse nursing resourced hospitals from 2013 to 2015. Patients were exactly matched on principal procedures and their hospital’s size category, teaching and technology status, and were closely matched on comorbidities and other risk factors.ResultsPatients in hospitals with better nursing resources had lower 30-day mortality: 2.7% vs 3.1% (p<0.001), lower failure-to-rescue: 5.4% vs 6.2% (p<0.001), lower readmissions: 12.6% vs 13.5% (p<0.001), shorter lengths of stay: 4.70 days vs 4.76 days (p<0.001), more intensive care unit admissions: 17.2% vs 15.4% (p<0.001) and marginally higher nurse-adjusted costs (which account for the costs of better nursing resources): $20 096 vs $19 358 (p<0.001), as compared with patients in worse nursing resourced hospitals. The nurse-adjusted cost associated with a 1% improvement in mortality at better nursing hospitals was $2035. Patients with the highest mortality risk realised the greatest value from nursing resources.ConclusionHospitals with better nursing resources provided better clinical outcomes for surgical patients at a small additional cost. Generally, the sicker the patient, the greater the value at better nursing resourced hospitals.

Cosmetic Dermatology has garnered tremendous interest all over the world. With the advent of modern technologies and developments, demand for non-surgical aesthetic procedures is on a rise. The purpose of the study is to know the types of cosmetic consultations and procedures being done in a General Dermatology setup. Patients who visited outpatient dermatology department of a multi-specialty, Nidan Hospital, Lalitpur, between May 2017 to April 2018 were included. Details of patients’ demographic profile were filled in a preset performa. Other information related to cosmetic consultation including dermatological diagnosis, awareness of cosmetic procedures and cosmetic procedures etc were also included. 160 patients attended the dermatology outpatient during the study period. Seventy four percent of them were females. Thirty six percent of the cases were between 26years and 35 years. Forty three percent of the cohort were working. Majority of them had Bachelors degree (57%). Twenty six patients who attended the OPD wanted cosmetic consultation. The type of cosmetic consultation, majority sought for was wrinkles (37%). Among the cosmetic procedures performed, chemical peeling was done in 59%, mesotherapy in 16%, mole removal in 12% and remaining 13% underwent topical treatment. Statistical significance was seen between Cosmetic consultation and economic status (p=0.000) and between cosmetic consultation and employment status (p=0.007). Almost a quarter of patients attending a general dermatology OPD sought cosmetic consultation. Females, young adults who are employed, well-educated and from good socio-economic status seek cosmetic services.
