An essential element of an event manager’s job involves the development of sustainable working relationships with a broad range of stakeholders. Event stakeholders include all of the organisations and individuals who have an interest in the staging of an event and may have some impact on event outcomes. These stakeholders may be internal or external to the event business and while the importance and influence of stakeholders varies significantly, it is essential for event managers to have a sound knowledge of their interests, needs, and potential impact. So too is the capacity of event managers to effectively, engage, communicate, and negotiate with all key stakeholders.

AbstractManaging adverse drug reactions (ADRs) is a challenge, especially because most healthcare professionals are insufficiently trained for this task. Since context-based clinical pharmacovigilance training has proven effective, we assessed the feasibility and effect of a creating a team of Junior-Adverse Drug Event Managers (J-ADEMs). The J-ADEM team consisted of medical students (1st–6th year) tasked with managing and reporting ADRs in hospitalized patients. Feasibility was evaluated using questionnaires. Student competence in reporting ADRs was evaluated using a case-control design and questionnaires before and after J-ADEM program participation. From Augustus 2018 to Augustus 2019, 41 students participated in a J-ADEM team and screened 136 patients and submitted 65 ADRs reports to the Netherlands Pharmacovigilance Center Lareb. Almost all patients (n = 61) found it important that “their” ADR was reported, and all (n = 62) patients felt they were taken seriously by the J-ADEM team. Although attending physicians agreed that the ADRs should have been reported, they did not do so themselves mainly because of a “lack of knowledge and attitudes” (50%) and “excuses made by healthcare professionals” (49%). J-ADEM team students were significantly more competent than control students in managing ADRs and correctly applying all steps for diagnosing ADRs (control group 38.5% vs. intervention group 83.3%, p < 0.001). The J-ADEM team is a feasible approach for detecting and managing ADRs in hospital. Patients were satisfied with the care provided, physicians were supported in their ADR reporting obligations, and students acquired relevant basic and clinical pharmacovigilance skills and knowledge, making it a win-win-win intervention.

The importance of financial management and resource allocation for events cannot be understated. Events are an important part of cities’, regions’ and countries’ cultural make-up and represent more than simply entertainment for interested consumers. Given this importance it is imperative that their ability to operate on a regular and ongoing basis is supported by a strong financial awareness of their management teams. How will we price the event to ensure that our objectives are met? How can we ensure that the management team and staff stay on-time and on-budget? How can we determine if we are generating enough revenue from our event to cover costs, and how important is our cash-on-hand for our immediate survival. This chapter aims to provide event managers with a clear understanding of these finance-related questions. The topics presented in this chapter build on, and extend the scope of the concepts discussed in the previous chapter. More emphasis will be on the numerical aspects as illustrated in the examples used throughout this chapter.

COVID-19 pandemic, and its several waves with different intensity, and also stronger or weaker restrictions, has influenced the everyday life of people all around the world. Pandemic hitted media indeed. People needed the newest information about the evolution of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which is the virus that causes COVID-19. Organisations, events and businesses were stopped or closed, so media content was directed to outbreak info. And if organisations, events and businesses were stopped, creators, event managers and business makers didn‘t even need advertising or other propagation of their activities. It wasn‘t happening on a global scale only, but also in the local. So the local and regional media, financially dependent on advertising, was hardly hitted by the outage of this type of income. This paper explores how COVID-19 pandemic impacted the functioning of smaller local and regional media. The paper looks at the content of regional media, impacted by the pandemic, at the amount of advertising and covers the other changes, which the coronavirus outbreak made

The examination of processes of value co-creation and co-destruction within events is now more pertinent than ever. Given the effects of constant sociocultural and environmental change and pandemic, and the huge challenges facing the sector, it is now more important than ever to understand what value is and how it can be created or destroyed. For instance, considering the engagement and involvement of audiences/ attendees it is important to explore the relationship between attendees’ motivations and frequency of attendance with their level of engagement. At the same time, there is a clear need of investigating additional factors that contribute to value co-creation in the context of events. Research should concentrate on understanding the different audiences, actors and stakeholders across different event contexts and settings within their respective value and distribution chains and within the wider event environment. The proliferation of events research is valuable therefore not just to expand this growing body of knowledge on a theoretical level; but events research has clear potential for use by event managers and producers in the events sector through the recovery process and beyond.
