The article summarizes a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the results of a questionnaire survey that took place at the Faculty of Economics, Technical University of Liberec in May 2021. The exceptional situation that occurred during the coronavirus pandemic forced all academic personnel to transfer their teaching to online platforms. Obviously, such a shift caused changes not only in the nature of teaching and syllabi but also in communication with students as well as the relations between students and academic workers. The main goal of this research was to find out how—or whether—the teachers modified their syllabi, or course plans, and adapted them to teaching in the online environment, and to what extent. The questionnaire further examined the teachers’ views on online teaching, its negative and positive aspects, and the tools that the academic workers have used most or least in online teaching. The research results primarily map the current situation at the Faculty of Economics and bring a reflection concerning other possibilities that online teaching offers and, of course, concerning also its pitfalls.

Recent studies underscored the different actions of the Higher Educational Institutions (HEI’s) all over the world in securing the health of the students as well as the academic personnel, and likewise in mitigating the spread of coronavirus or COVID-19. Most of HEI’s closed the schools in March 2020 and shifted their paradigm from face-to-face to distance or remote learning. Mabalacat City College (MCC) as one of the HEI’s in the Philippines resolved this concern through its innovative flexible learning. In the flexible learning of MCC, the students were given options to choose between the Hub mode (modular type) and Home mode (online class). The respondents in this action research were 310 students enrolled in the course “The Life and Works of Rizal”, wherein the 230 (74.19%) of the respondents were from the Home mode of learning and the 80 (25.81%) of the respondents were from the Hub mode of learning. The finding in this study confirmed that the students in the Home mode of learning surpassed the performance of the students who were in Hub mode of learning.

Optical monitors have proven their versatility into the studies of air quality in the workplace and indoor environments. The current study aimed to perform a screening of the indoor environment regarding the presence of various fractions of particulate matter (PM) and the specific thermal microclimate in a classroom occupied with students in March 2019 (before COVID-19 pandemic) and in March 2021 (during pandemic) at Valahia University Campus, Targoviste, Romania. The objectives were to assess the potential exposure of students and academic personnel to PM and to observe the performances of various sensors and monitors (particle counter, PM monitors, and indoor microclimate sensors). PM1 ranged between 29 and 41 μg m−3 and PM10 ranged between 30 and 42 μg m−3. It was observed that the particles belonged mostly to fine and submicrometric fractions in acceptable thermal environments according to the PPD and PMV indices. The particle counter recorded preponderantly 0.3, 0.5, and 1.0 micron categories. The average acute dose rate was estimated as 6.58 × 10−4 mg/kg-day (CV = 14.3%) for the 20–40 years range. Wearing masks may influence the indoor microclimate and PM levels but additional experiments should be performed at a finer scale.

University social responsibility is an educational policy of awareness of the academic impacts of university students in society, which are essential for the growth of education and the reinforcement of social structures. The objective of this study was assessing the perception that students, academic personnel, directive, and head teachers have regarding social responsibility and determine its relationship with the vision, mission and medical education. A cross-sectional correlational study was carried out by applying a questionnaire. The aspects of social responsibility most perceived by students, academic academic personnel, directive, and head teachers were determined, significant differences in social responsibility were established in these four groups and significant relationships were observed with the aspects of vision, mission and most perceived medical education. Despite the fact that none of the investigations is capable of objectively measuring social responsibility, the measurement of the most perceived aspects of it allows assessing the direction that is taken in knowledge, in order to influence educational reforms, implementation of subjects and social responsibility programs. This research contributes to the state of knowledge about social responsibility and its relationship with the vision, mission and medical training by demonstrating that the perception of social responsibility affects the concept of medical education regarding the mission and vision of the faculty.

The acceleration of pace of international events and processesrequires a qualified analysis without the political-journalistic bias that often characterizes them. Thus, in addition to theoretical-analytical articles, we consider it necessary to publish a brief evaluation of important current events. To this end, the Brazilian Center for Strategy and International Relations (NERINT), member of the Center for International Studies on Government (CEGOV-UFRGS), launched the NERINT Strategic Analysis series, with the contribution of its specialized researchers and guests with thematic expertise. It will be published at the end of each volume of Austral: BrazilianJournal of Strategy and International Relations, starting with an assessment of Post-Trump Diplomacy, conflicts in Russia’s “near abroad” and the Strategic Lessons of World War II on its 75th anniversary. Since the 1990s, Itamaraty has been promoting the formation of qualified national academic personnel on themes and countries relevant to Brazilian diplomacy, business and defense. This training effort, through the promotion and funding of graduate courses, is paying off, and Brazil already has professors and researchers at an international level.
