Promoting healthy eating habits can prevent adolescent obesity in which family may play a significant role. This review synthesized findings from qualitative studies to identify family barriers and facilitators of adolescent healthy eating in terms of knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP). A literature search of four databases was completed on 31 July 2020; qualitative studies that explored family factors of adolescent (aged 10 to 19 years) eating habits were included. A total of 48 studies were identified, with the majority being from North America and sampled from a single source. Ten themes on how family influences adolescent dietary KAP were found: Knowledge—(1) parental education, (2) parenting style, and (3) family illness experience; Attitudes—(4) family health, (5) cultivation of preference, and (6) family motivation; Practices—(7) home meals and food availability, (8) time and cost, (9) parenting style, and (10) parental practical knowledge and attitudes. This review highlights five parental characteristics underlying food parenting practices which affect adolescents’ KAP on healthy eating. Adolescents with working parents and who are living in low-income families are more vulnerable to unhealthy eating. There is a need to explore cultural-specific family influences on adolescents’ KAP, especially regarding attitudes and food choices in Asian families.

This study was carried out to establish the possibility of enhancing SME sustainability in Kampala, Uganda through boosting key internal drivers of entity performance (records management, internal communication, family influences, and online presence). Using conclusive, cross-sectional, and case study research designs supported by the philosophical underpinnings of critical realism and positivism epistemology, data was collected from 278 SMEs using semi-structured questionnaires. Using SEM analysis, it was revealed that all the key drivers have a positive significant statistical effects of the sustainability of SMEs (records management [S.E = 0.3; p = 0.000], internal communication [S.E = 0.229; p = 0.017], family influences [S.E = 0.162; p = 0.041], and online presence [S.E = 0.321; p = 0.000]). It was therefore recommended that key internal success factors identified need to be considered in the management and operations of SMEs in Kampala. This is aimed at guaranteeing the sustainability of SMEs and the boosting of the private sector.

Childhood, overweight and obesity are increasingly significant problems, and ones that are likely to endure and to have long term adverse influences on the health of individuals and populations unless action is taken to reverse the trend. A number of factors have been suggested as contributing to the development of childhood obesity. These include genetic factors, decreasing levels of physical activity, increased time spent in sedentary behavior and changes in diet. In addition, lifestyle factors, including family influences, changes in society and media advertising, have been associated with the increasing incidence of obesity and overweight in childhood. To address the problem, health care professionals should incorporate appropriate screening in their child practice. Comprehensive assessment of children who are, or who are at risk of becoming, obese is also necessary

Sholat is an obligation for Muslims. Sholat obligations are determined in a day are marked by a call, the name adzan. In Indonesia, with a majority Muslim population, the signs of sholat times are very easy to recognize. But not a few ignore it. The purpose of this study is to understand sholat as a behavior from the perspective of planned behavior. This research is a qualitative descriptive study, with data collection using an open-ended questionnaire and a pocket book as a daily sholat record that informants must fill in for 2 weeks. The informants were 72 under-graduate students, both male and female. The results of this study indicate that the attitude of continuing to sholat in the given timeframe, but not necessarily at the beginning of the sholat time because there are other tasks. The presence of a family is very important as an influential person who reminds him to immediately perform sholat (as a subjective norm). Other things that are 2 considered more important and must be done besides sholat strengthen the intention to postpone praying. The behavior of postponing sholat is very strong based on these findings, because it forms attitudes, family influences and activities, which are more importantly less controllable. Therefore, a positive attitude so that prayers on time need to be built, the presence of the family is very dominant and put other things for a while to be continued after the prayer needs to be removed so that the procrastination of sholat does not occur

Abstract This article contributes to the literature addressing family influences on elite political behavior. By empirically assessing the influence of sibling gender on judicial decision-making, we are able to present evidence on the mechanism by which child, sibling and other relatives’ gender may influence elite political behavior. We build on a published dataset by mining various archival sources to compile data on the gender of judges’ siblings. We find no evidence that male judges’ votes on so-called “women’s issues” (employment discrimination based on gender or pregnancy, reproductive rights/abortion, and Title IX) are affected by whether they have a sister, and we are able to rule out large effects of a sibling’s gender on male and female judges’ votes. Our results imply that the relationship between family member gender and elite political behavior is driven by the desire to avoid costs of discrimination, rather than learning from family members.

While a high unemployment rate is documented among immigrant young people, research also suggests that they experience success with career decision-making despite challenging circumstances (Hofferth & Moon, 2016). This study explored the career decision-making narratives of nine young people between the ages of 25 and 35 who had come to Canada when they were between the ages of 13 and 17 and who self-define as doing well in their career decision-making. Using a narrative research design, individual narrative accounts were constructed and analyzed using a thematic analysis (Braun & Clarke, 2006). The six themes that emerged from participant responses were (a) parental and family influences, (b) networking, making connections, and mentorship, (c) personal and workplace challenges, (d) peer influences, (e) the value of education, internships, and volunteering, and (f) the importance of rewarding, fulfilling work and pursuing one’s passion. Implications for career counselling practice, research, and career theory development are discussed.
