The authors have developed a technique for improving the rolling modes of rail steels based on a complex optimization parameter. The technology of rolling rail profiles in the roughing stands of rail-and-structural steel mills and the technology of rolling ball blanks and grinding balls from the rejection of continuously cast blanks of rail steels are selected as the methodology objects. The generalized optimization parameter is the generalized Harrington desirability function, which depends on the partial desirability indicators according to the criteria of energy efficiency, quality of rolled products, material conservation and mill productivity. The share of influence of the listed partial optimization criteria on the generalized desirability function is taken into account by using weighting coefficients. Justification of the coefficient values is based on the results of a comparative analysis of reserves for reducing costs or losses in value terms. An algorithm for applying the technique has been developed. The analysis and generalization of the available initial data and additional research were carried out as a part of the first block. These studies are aimed at obtaining justified analytical dependencies of particular optimization criteria and measured rolling parameters. The second block is justification of the specific direction of rolling modes, the choice of which is carried out on the basis of checking the compliance of boundary conditions. The third block includes development of the parameters of the new rolling mode and assessment of its applicability and effectiveness. The fourth block involves pilot testing of a new rolling mode in the conditions of an existing rolling mill and if it is necessary, adjusting the methodology for determining the forecast values of the measured indicators. With the use of the developed methodology, the modes of rolling of railway and sharp rails in the roughing stands of universal rail-and-structural steel mill of JSC “EVRAZ ZSMK” were improved, and the mode of rolling grinding balls from the rejection of rail blanks at the cross-screw rolling mill of JSC “GMZ” was changed. There is a significant improvement in the quality, technical and economic indicators, which indicates the effectiveness of the developed methodology.

Abstract The questions of determining the structure and parameters of the working bodies mechanical system model for the track renewal train with tribospectral optimization are considered. It is proposed that the tribospectral characteristics should be considered as an optimization parameter recognition source. The main attention is paid to the identification of the main regularities in the realized tribospectrum of the useful vibration signal. Based on the results of processing the vibration acceleration spectra, possible signs of optimization assessment are proposed.

Micropropagation of orchids are often through the production of Protocorm Like Bodies (PLBs) and this research conducted a study to discover the optimal condition for the growth of Protocorm Like Bodies (PLBs) and also plantlets regeneration of Grammatophyllum speciosum Several aspects such as different carbon sources (sucrose, maltose) and the presence of charcoal alongside with the variety of concentration of agar were taken into account for the optimization. This study discovered that the 30 g/L of sucrose in 1 mg/L of BAP was superior in producing heavy PLBs. However, the trend differs in the number of plantlets where maltose (5 g/L) is seen to produce a higher number of plantlets compared to sucrose. Charcoal plays an important role in the growth of PLBs where the heaviest PLBs were recorded in the medium supplemented with 0.20 % of charcoal along with 4.5 g of agar. Vice versa relationship was recorded for the number of plantlets where without  charcoal in 4.5 g of agar produce the highest number of plantlets.

A systematic approach to the design of electrical machines is implemented by solving problems of analysis and synthesis in various combinations at different stages and stages of design. The questions of the formulation and implementation of synthesis and analysis problems in the study and design of modular-type magnetically commutated electrical machines are considered. They are aimed at reducing weight, size and cost while improving the performance of these newly designed machines. A complex method of parametric synthesis and an automated program containing a calculated mathematical model of an electric machine has been developed. On the basis of numerical full factorial experiments, the optimization parameter is determined, and a regression analysis is performed with the construction of an optimization model. It allows you to find a narrow range of variation of significant factors, at which the optimization parameter satisfies the specified conditions. On the example of studying an inductor generator of axial-radial configuration, new approaches to the formulation and solution of typical problems of analysis and synthesis of modular-type electrical machines are shown. The use of complex parametric synthesis makes it possible to significantly reduce the masses of the designed modular machines in comparison with drum-type inductor machines of the same power.

The aim of this work is to determine the dynamics of the firewood burning-out in the fluidized bed burners and to select the optimal constructive characteristics of the burner of the fluidized bed, which allows decreasing the unburnt fuel particles to be carried out of the burner volume. The aims and problems were solved using the experimental and numerical methods. Thus, to determine the dynamics of the burning-out, the experimental device was used with a fluidized bed, which is a 200x300 mm chamber 1000 mm high. The fuel mass of each combustion cycle was similar. It was 3.8 kg. The average time of burning-out during the combustion full cycle was in the range of 300-500 s, the maximum temperature of the layer was 800C. The studies performed showed that the major problem in the wood waste combustion is the insufficient time of the combustion process in the burner. This problem was proposed to be solved using the cone-shaped burner. The mathematical method was developed to determine the optimal main construction parameters (D is the top diameter, d is the bottom diameter and H is the cone height) of the burner accounting for the solid particle motion rate in the ascending flow. The devolatilization parameter of material was used as the optimization parameter. The most significant results are those cone-shaped geometrical parameters optimized in the research process. The significance of the results obtained is that the results of the above studies can be used in practice for designing the boilers with the fluidized bed burners.

The study uses topological optimization techniques in design of the housing of an impeller meant for the increased rotational speeds in ANSYS. The objective function of the impeller optimization is the minimum yield, and the optimization parameter is assumed as the change in the interior volume of the structure under certain constraints imposed on the external geometry of the impeller. The optimization of the impeller housing shows that it is possible to reduce the weight of the power belt, and to make one web to be load-bearing and the other web to be thinner, or to switch to the impeller with one web. Moreover, the design can use some elements of a lattice structure.
