AbstractMotivation as a meaningful construct is a desire to satisfy a certain want and is a central pillar at the workplace. Thus, motivating employees adequately is a challenge as it has what it takes to define employee satisfaction at the workplace. In this study, we examine the relationship between job motivation factors and performance among teachers of basic schools in Ghana. The study employs a quantitative approach on a sample of 254 teachers from a population of 678 in the Effutu Municipality of Ghana, of which 159 questionnaires were duly answered and returned (representing 62.6% return rate). Using multiple regression and ANOVA, the study finds compensation package, job design and environment and performance management system as significant factors in determining teacher’s motivation in the municipality. Thus, these motivation factors were significant predictors on performance when regressed at a decomposed and aggregated levels. These findings support the self-determination theory, more specifically on the explanations advanced under the controlled and autonomous motivation factors. Significant differences were also observed in teachers’ performance among one of the age cohorts. The study urges the municipal directorate of education to make more room for young teacher trainees and interns who are at the formative stage of their careers to be engaged to augment the experienced staff strength. More should be done to make the profession attain some level of autonomy in the discharge of duty to breed the next genre of innovative educators in the municipality.

This paper examines the determinants of satisfaction of compensation packages in Ghanaian mining communities using survey data and the logit model.  The results indicate that an improved and highly improved mining effect on livelihood increases the likelihood of households being satisfied with compensation packages by 19.4 and 24% respectively, while a change in satisfaction with compensation negotiation process from not satisfied to satisfied increases the likelihood of a household being satisfied with compensation package received by 18.8%. Also, a change from low pollution level to moderate or high pollution levels decrease the likelihood of households being satisfied with compensation package received by 9.1% and 11.3% respectively. Furthermore, a change in location from the Obuasi village community to Asutifi, Prestea and Tarkwa village communities increases satisfaction with compensation package by 8.7%, 19.6% and 16.1% respectively. A change in the mean variables will lead to a 14.6 per cent likelihood of a household being satisfied with compensation payment received. We recommend the government to improve compensation negotiation process by educating communities on the compensation regulation. There is a need to economically value assets while strengthening regulatory institutions to enable then properly enforce pollution regulations.

This paper provides an overview of modern theoretical and practical approaches to the systems of motivation and stimulation of the work of the personnel. The main focus is on the works of Russian researchers within the last decade. The relevance of this study is due to the lack of such reviews in scientific sources, as well as the possible comparison of the achievements of theory and practice in order to create an effective system of staff labor motivation. The purpose of this study is to analyze modern approaches in theory and practice to the content of labor motivation and incentive systems, the mechanism of labor motivation and the selection of the most effective “tools for tuning” the system of labor motivation and incentives. The research methods used in this study include analysis, systematization and generalization of the published approaches of researchers and practitioners, including copyright research, for the period from 2012 to 2020, presented in academic journals and monographic sources. The results of the study were systematized by the authors in three areas of analysis: models and systems of motivation and incentives for personnel and the composition of their elements; approaches to studying mechanisms of motivation and stimulation of labor, guiding the labor behavior of employees; experience of a differentiated approach to managing labor motivation. Systematization and generalization of the approaches made it possible to single out the “tuning tools” of the system of motivation and stimulation of labor and to define the concept. Moreover, it helped to compile the list of such tools, including: monitoring the need-motivational sphere and job satisfaction, studying the dynamics of the employee’s motivational profiles for making and changing management decisions; application of a flexible incentive system, taking into account the differentiation of incentives by gender, age, length of service, job positions of personnel in the company; providing an employee with a choice of a compensation package from the enterprise’s cafeteria. These customization tools guide managers towards a targeted approach to personnel, combining the efforts of management at different levels to align labor motivation with the strategic goals of the company. The authors argue that a timely use and alternation of the tools for setting up and tuning the labor motivation system, focusing on the urgent needs of personnel, allows to change the company’s motivational strategy creating sustainable competitive advantages which are necessary in modern economic realities.

<em>This paper aimed to elaborate the participation of Adat Law Community in Public-Private Partnership (PPP) to introduce new approach to replace compensation to more participative and collaborative scheme of infrastructure development in PPP. This article uses the normative legal research with the conceptual, statute, and case approach. This research show that releasing the land used for infrastructure development procurement will abolish the identity of the community. It have shown that failure in recognizing Adat Law Community as rightful party over their land neglects their right to entitle compensation. Furthermore, instead of economically compensating ulayat land of Adat Law Community used for infrastructure development, Adat Law Community’s participation shall be involved in infrastructure development on their land. The active participation of Adat Law Community can be exercised through placing the community as public entity in PPP. For comparison in China, the State does not pay according to market prices to farmers. However, it provides a compensation package that includes employment opportunities for farmers, housing compensation, compensation for crop loss, and / or granting a residence permit in urban areas. This make them eligible for their social welfare such as health insurance, pensions and / or retirement plans, access to high-quality schools and subsidized agricultural goods that were not previously available to farmers</em>

The purpose of this paper is to explore job attribute preferences of students in the media and communication stream. The study is conducted to get an understanding of job expectations of students in the COVID era that can help provide conceptual guidelines to hiring managers in media houses for future planning of manpower/job offers. Based on the conjoint analysis technique, a questionnaire was designed and responses of 152 students of media and communication were recorded from a university in Delhi/NCR. Estimation of preference function was created using orthogonal arrays. Results of this study suggest that job security is the most preferred attribute which influences job choice decisions of students, second preferred attribute being appropriate work hours. The paper presents an important tool that can be of great use for recruitment managers, to understand the psyche of students and their preferences, which may further help in designing appropriate recruitment policies and create job offers that can attract the suitable talent pool. Results also reveal that high compensation package is not the most preferred attribute anymore, perhaps due to the uncertainty of the times. Limitation of this study is that individual behaviour cannot be ascertained through the survey and data from students of different universities can be studied for more robust results. The paper is novel in approach as it empirically identifies the preferred job attributes of media students amid the pandemic situation, by applying conjoint analysis. Therefore, it gives new insights to understand how the pandemic has affected students’ job expectations and decisions.
