Editorial for the Special Section on the 2021 Fluids Engineering Division Summer Meeting

The ASME Journal of Fluids Engineering (JFE) and the ASME Fluids Engineering Division (FED) unveil a special section of papers that were presented at the 2021 Fluids Engineering Division Summer Meeting. The FED conference co-chairs were Professor Zhongquan (Charlie) Zheng and Professor Philipp Epple, whose dedicated service created an outstanding virtual conference platform. The conference was successful due to the hard work and dedication of the conference chairs and FED volunteers. The 2021 FEDSM was held August 10-12, 2021 and included four plenary speakers and seven keynote talks plus hundreds of technical presentations.

A Study of the Role of Sivathamil Selvi Thangamma Appakutty in the Development of Hinduism in Sri Lanka

The vegan culture of Sri Lanka is ancient and unique. Many have contributed to the development of this culture. The twentieth century opened new chapters in educational development, social change and change of thinking as a result of English rule. Women’s education, women’s going to work, etc. were made possible. Born and educated at this time, Deivath Thirumakal - Dr. Sivathamilch Selvi Thangamma Appakutty was a teacher. The study, entitled A Role of Sivathamil Selvi Thangamma Appakutty in the Development of Hinduism in Sri Lanka, entitled How Her Contribution to the Educational Development of Sri Lanka Women and Overcoming the Challenges Facing Women. This study is carried out with the aim of the study. This study forms a descriptive study. Performed with analysis, comparison and historical analysis when appropriate. The mothers were eloquent, well-managed, artistic and literary, and had a fearless and dedicated service mindset. Traditional studies on women should be carried out in the field of education and social service, and studies on women should be conducted from different angles through various fields. Such research and their findings may help to show our present and future generations that ancient women lived and excelled in the Hindu society subject to various restrictions.

Intelligence and radicalization in French prisons: Sociological analysis bottom-up

In the context of the fight against Islamist radicalization in France, prison intelligence rapidly developed from 2015 through the gradual creation of a dedicated service and a specific corps of professionals. This professionalization of prison intelligence work has deeply transformed the prison administration. This article aims to describe and analyse these transformations on the basis of an ethnographic study conducted in radicalization assessment units, which are specific units set up to assess prisoners who have committed or are suspected of committing crimes linked to radical Islam. We shall describe how the guards, probation officers, psychologists and educators participating in assessing the prisoners adapt to the new, encroaching presence of the intelligence mission. We shall analyse the forms of collaboration and competition between this staff and the prison intelligence officers. Lastly, we will examine criticism of the intelligence activity in the radicalization assessment units voiced by various professionals. The interpenetration of the assessment work and the intelligence mission – which are formally distinct missions – produces a specific type of knowledge relating to radicalized prisoners: a reproduction of certain representations or ‘profiles’.

Multimedia Competencies for University Staff to Empower Manufacturing Science Education

The paper aims describing a collaborative international initiative of four European universities to develop a training program for supporting university staff in creating and using multimedia resources effectively. Thus, teaching, researcher and administrative staff from higher education institutions will develop their digital skills to create more realistic and attractive content that should improve university prestige through a better communication process with the stakeholders. We relate the presented approach to MUST project (Multimedia Competencies for University Staff to Empower University - Community Collaborations, 2020-1-RO01-KA203-080399), that aims develop and implement a new multimedia curriculum and training program. The training curriculum and the created educational resources make up a dedicated service offered by universities through DigiCoaches who will provide training to other internal/external users/trainees in creating-using multimedia technologies effectively.

Petrarchan Contexts of John Donne�s Spiritual Lyrics

The article is devoted to the connection of the famous English poet, prose writer and preacher John Donne�s (1572�1631) works with the Petrarchan discourse of the European literature. The purpose of the investigation is to reveal and interpret the elements of Petrarchism in spiritual lyrics of the author on the basis of systematic approach with the use of the genealogical and comparative typological methods. The most prominent cases of the traditional Petrarchan themes, motives and images usage in John Donne�s religious texts and the specifity of their functioning have been examined in this article. Our attention has been paid to the genetic interconnection between the courtly rhetoric, which had been inherited by Francesco Petrarch and his numerous followers from the Provencal troubadours, and the traditions of the European mysticism that causes the harmony of the Petrarchan interpretive contexts according to the spiritual lyrics of the writer. Already in his earliest works, in particular in the book �Songs and Sonnets�, John Donne did not avoid mixing the sacred and the profane, quite intensively using religious images and motifs in love poetry. But his Petrarchism is most notable in his �Holly Sonnets�. The poetry of this cycle is not about God at all, but about the author himself in his relationship with Lord. In these sonnets the writer describes his feelings for God in almost the same way as Francesco Petrarch described his love for Laura. In general, if we talk about Petrarchism in relation to the spiritual lyrics of John Donne, it should be noted that for the writer it was not only a convenient source of the �ready� artistic images, motifs or means of expression but a kind of a perfect artistic technique for expressing secret, deeply personal thoughts and emotions. The conclusion has been done that such typically Petrarchan ideas such as: the dedicated service to the object of feelings, slavish adoration, obedience and dependence on its inconstant wishes John Donne has managed to adapt to the special needs of the sacred genres in such a way that his texts look surprisingly attractive, interesting and clear to different readers. Despite his worldwide fame John Donne is still one of the least researched literary figures in Ukrainian science. The article is directed to study only one of many aspects of his many-sided artistic heritage which needs the comprehensive professional analysis of the literary theorists and historians. So this article can be used for the further investigation of the problems, connected with the Petrarchan discourse generally in English literature and particularly in John Donne�s works and the scientific results proposed in it can be used in writing course works, graduation works and thesis on the related themes.

New BioGeoChemical products provided by the Copernicus Marine Service

<p>The Copernicus Marine service is a “one-stop-shop” providing freely available operational data on the state of the marine environment for use by marine managers, advisors, and scientists, as well as intermediate and end users in marine businesses and operations. The Copernicus Marine service offers operationally updated and state-of-the-art products that are well documented and transparent. The European Commission’s long-term commitment to the Copernicus program offers long-term visibility and stability of the Copernicus Marine products. Furthermore, Copernicus Marine offers a dedicated service desk, in addition to training sessions and workshops.</p><p>Here, we present the in situ biogeochemical data products distributed by the Copernicus Marine System since 2018. It offers available data of chlorophyll-<em>a</em>, oxygen, and nutrients collected across the globe. These products integrate observation aggregated from the Regional EuroGOOS consortium (Arctic-ROOS, BOOS, NOOS, IBI-ROOS, MONGOOS) and Black Sea GOOS as well as from SeaDataNet2 National Data Centers (NODCs) and JCOMM global systems (Argo, GOSUD, OceanSITES, GTSPP, DBCP) and the Global telecommunication system (GTS) used by the Met Offices.</p><p>The in situ Near Real Time biogeochemical product is updated every month whereas the reprocessed product is updated two times per year. Products are delivered on NetCDF4 format compliant with the CF1.7 standard and well-documented quality control procedures.</p>

PUBLIC FIGURE I.YA. SLAVIN AND PAINTER ARTIST A.P. BOGOLYUBOV - ZEALOUS GUARDIANS OF THE SARATOV LAND'S GOOD

Alexey Bogolyubov and Ivan Slavin are the two prominent figures in the cultural and public life of the Russian Empire’s Saratov Province. The former was a well-known painter, philanthropist, and Maecenas. In 1885, Alexey Bogolyubov initiated the foundation of the Saratov Museum of Fine Arts (the first public fine arts museum in Russia) and the creation of the famous Saratov drawing school, the cradle of many Russian painters, which was opened after Bogolyubov’s death in 1897. The latter – Ivan Slavin was an eminent public figure in Saratov, the author of the memoirs about the development of his native city in the pre-revolutionary period. In his book, Slavin described the events in which he himself was directly involved as a member of the city government. The Saratov Region State Archives has preserved the documents attesting to the long-lasting friendly relationship between A.P. Bogolyubov and I.Ya. Slavin. The materials elaborate on the roles of the two personalities in the history of the Volga city, which, before World War I, was considered to be the “capital of the Volga Region”. The article tries to analyze how and on what basis did the two characters draw closer. The difference in age was not an obstacle and did not interfere with their business and friendly relationship. Alexey Bogolyubov spent most of his life abroad. Ivan Slavin, out of his convictions, never left his homeland. They were united by the Russian language, pan-European culture, their dedicated service to Russia, understanding of their duty to contemporaries and descendants. “The Sons of the Fatherland” – this noble definition can fully characterize both figures.

A Passage of Nostalgia: The Life and Work of Jacobus Kloppers

Jacobus Kloppers, an eminent composer, organist, pedagogue, and scholar, significantly contributed to musicological and organ teaching in South Africa and Canada and, in the latter context, art music, and liturgical composition. A Passage of Nostalgia – The Life and Work of Jacobus Kloppers, as a symbolic gesture, constitute recognition of his work both in South Africa and Canada. This publication is unique in that, apart from relevant disciplinary perspectives, biographical and autobiographical narrative, and anecdote, all constitute a necessary means through which the authors illuminate Kloppers’ compositional process and its creative outcomes. In this regard, Kloppers generously dedicated his time to the project to make information on his life and work available, often in complex ways. This retrospective input supports the work offered as an authentic, self-reflective recounting of a life of dedicated service in music. The construct of nostalgia as an overarching theme to this volume on some level denotes Kloppers’ position of cultural and religious ‘insidedness’ and ‘outsidedness’. However, apart from representing a return to a lost and challenging past, the composer’s creative work affirms his individuality, sense of artistic self, and propensity for spiritual acceptance and tolerance. Moreover, nostalgia in his oeuvre takes on importance as a rhetorical artistic practice by which continuity is as central as discontinuity.
