The relationships between tumorigenesis and nutrition are difficult to analyse. In addition to the composition of foods, a number of environmental and other factors modify the results of dietary observations. The nutritional factors can also be direct acting carcinogens, promoters and anti-promoters in the process of tumor formation. The most important promoters are excessive energy, high fat and animal protein intake, low fibre intake, and excessive alcohol consumption. The dietary fibre, antioxidant vitamins, antioxidant minerals and other elements play a prominent role among anti-promoters in foods. The primary purpose of the manuscript is to analyse these promoters, anti-promoters, and direct acting carcinogens. Furthermore, we prepare and present foods that significantly contribute to a tumor preventive diet and support the active defence of the human body with the help of gastronomic science.

Wildfires continue to destroy houses, but an understanding of the complex mix of risk factors remains elusive. These factors comprise six themes: preparedness actions (including defensible space), response actions (including defence), house construction, landscape fuels, topography and weather. The themes span a range of spatial scales (house to region) and responsible agents (householders through government to entirely natural forces). We conducted a statistical analysis that partitions the contribution of these six themes on wildfire impact to houses, using two fires that destroyed 200 houses in New South Wales (Australia) in October 2013 (the Linksview and Mt York fires). We analysed 85 potential predictor variables using Random Forest modelling. The best predictors of impact were whether the house was defended and distance to forest toward the direction of fire spread. However, predictors from all four of the other themes had some influence, including distance to the nearest other burnt house (indicating house-to-house transmission) and vegetation cover up to 40 m from the house. The worst-placed houses (undefended, without adequate defensible space, with burnt houses nearby and with a westerly aspect) were 10 times more likely to be impacted than the best-placed houses in our study. The results indicate that householders are the agents most able to mitigate risk in the conditions experienced in these fires through both preparation and active defence.

Evolving from hybrid conflict leading into conventional warfare? The Russian concept of military impact, with particular reference to the changes after 2018 The article presents the evolution of the Russian idea of military operations as a form of implementing security policy. Significant changes in the concept of conducting hybrid operations were pointed out in relation to the way they were carried out in the process of the annexation of the Crimean Peninsula and during the Russian intervention in Syria. It was shown that the concept of the reconstruction of the armed forces since 2018 has been aimed at both preparing them for the implementation of the so-called integrated operations, expanding the external defence zone, and performing antiaccess operations. This is to be achieved by adequately saturating the armed forces with the necessary means to conduct such a task and by practically implementing the active defence strategy, which assumes that Russia will take pre-emptive actions based on precise planning algorithms. The Russian strategy of active defence is complemented by a strategy of limited operations. According to Russian experts, this strategy should involve external actions to protect and promote Russian interests abroad. The analyses demonstrate that the Russians have decided that the basic form of contemporary and future political-military conflict will be a non-linear conflict with a dynamic course. That is why a key role has been assigned to both kinetic and non-kinetic instrumentation capabilities and special operations with a comprehensive scope. To implement these plans, a thorough reform of the armed forces was carried out in terms of restructuring the organization, reforming the training system and modernizing the armaments. The main phase of the reforms had been successfully implemented by December 2020, despite the sanctions. The experience of Syria and the Donbass influenced the transformation of the Russian military doctrine. Its most important assumption was to move away from the primacy of synchronized non-military actions within a non-kinetic destabilizing operation. The concept of coordinated use of military and non-military means with a decisive role of the armed forces has become the basic form of conducting operations of this type. W artykule opisano ewolucję rosyjskiej koncepcji działań militarnych jako formy realizacji polityki bezpieczeństwa. Przedstawiono istotne zmiany w koncepcji dotyczącej prowadzenia działań hybrydowych w stosunku do sposobu, w jaki je realizowano podczas aneksji Półwyspu Krymskiego oraz rosyjskiej interwencji w Syrii. Zmieniono strukturę organizacyjną, system szkolenia i zmodernizowano uzbrojenie. Najważniejszy etap reform został ukończony, pomimo sankcji, w grudniu 2020 r. Na zmiany wprowadzane w rosyjskiej doktrynie wojskowej miały wpływ doświadczenia płynące z działań w Syrii i Donbasie. Przede wszystkim nastąpiło odejście od prymatu zsynchronizowanych działań niemilitarnych w ramach niekinetycznej operacji destabilizacyjnej. Obecnie główny sposób prowadzenia operacji polega na skoordynowanym użyciu środków wojskowych i pozamilitarnych, przy czym siły zbrojne odgrywają w takich operacjach decydującą rolę.

Seas play a vital role in shaping and reshaping the course of  global politics, from developing empires to new global orders. Virtually 80 percent of China’s trade resources passes through the Seas and mostly by South China Sea, so it has initiated developments in South China Sea, from building artificial island, light houses to air strips to secure its trade routes. The aim of the study is to clarify the assumptions that China is building a ‘sand wall’ or ‘water wall’ like great wall to secure its maritime trade. Descriptive, analytical approach has been adopted to study the marvel; Mahan’s theory of Sea power has been applied to quantify the developments made by China. It concludes that China is striving for naval supremacy as per Mahan’s theory along with synthesis of Mao’s ‘Active Defence’. Hence Peaceful and integrated strategies are required to minimize the implications of disruption of seaborne trade.

Abstract Nests of independent-founding primitively eusocial paper wasps are founded by one or a few females. Before worker emergence, foundresses must forage, sometimes leaving the nest unattended. Chemical defence - the application of ant repellent secretions of the Van der Vecht organ (VdVO) on the nest surface - allows brood protection when active defence is weak or not possible. After worker emergence, it is more likely that some wasps stay in the nest, so active nest defence may be more common. Given this constraint on the nest defence, selection for increasing the cuticular secretory area of the VdVO, to improve chemical defence, may be stronger in foundresses (queens) than in workers - morphological castes are hypothesized to evolve. We investigated the occurrence of morphological castes in the Neotropical paper wasp Mischocyttarus. Confirming our prediction, we found that in some (but not all) species, foundresses have a distinct increase in the secretory area of the VdVO in relation to workers; even though there is a strong overlap between caste phenotypes (incipient morphological castes). Implications of these findings for the evolution of morphological castes in primitively eusocial wasps are discussed.

Subject Space as a domain of warfare. Significance The US government has created a Space Force as a new branch of its military. Similar changes are under way in France and Japan. Russia’s test of an anti-satellite missile on April 15 and the ‘shadowing’ of a US satellite by a Russian spacecraft in January highlight the growing military importance of space. Impacts Development of offensive capabilities for space warfare will probably be slow and those who do so will downplay it. Covert Russian and Chinese anti-satellite missiles tests will help make the case for arming the US Space Force as a deterrent. Only a near miss or actual conflict in space is likely to trigger action to reach arms control agreements.

The real-time and high-continuity requirements of the edge computing network gain more and more attention because of its active defence problem, that is, a data-driven complex problem. Due to the dual constraints of the hybrid feature of edge computing networks and the uncertainty of new attack features, implementing active defence measures such as detection, evasion, trap, and control is essential for the security protection of edge computing networks with high real-time and continuity requirements. The basic idea of safe active defence is to make the defence gain more significant than the attack loss. To encounter the new attacks with uncertain features introduced by the ubiquitous transmission network in the edge computing network, this paper investigates the attack behaviour and presents an attack-defence mechanism based on game theory. Based on the idea of dynamic intrusion detection, we utilize the game theory in the field of edge computing network and suggest a data-driven mimicry intrusion detection game model-based technique called GLIDE. The game income of participants and utility computing methods under different deployment strategies are analysed in detail. According to the proof analysis of the Nash equilibrium condition in the model, the contradictory dynamic game relationship is described. Therefore, the optimal deployment strategy of the multiredundancy edge computing terminal intrusion detection service in the edge computing network is obtained by solving the game balance point. The detection probability of the edge computing network for network attacks is improved, and the cost of intrusion detection of the edge computing network is reduced.

The text describes main US missile defence efforts in the first years of D. Trump’s administration. The analysis of current aspects of BMD (Ballistic Missile Defence) deployments is enhanced by probability analysis examining missile defence reliability. Donald Trump took office in the time of increased military competition between the West and Russia and a dangerous regional crisis related to North Korean nuclear arsenal and its ballistic tests. BMD appeared to bring additional chances to US deterrence options in regional scale, allowing more successful first strike or active defence posture. Notably, D. Trump’s administration managed to raise defence expenditures including BMD spending.
