The purpose of the study is to analyze the visual features of street cinema photography and techniques for its implementation; establish the role of light, colour, composition and historical features of the street genre of photography; to prove the importance of conscious departure from the established laws of photocomposition for the implementation of creative ideas. The research methodology consists in the application of the following methods: theoretical – for the study and analysis of scientific publications, articles and photo albums of street photography masters; empirical – to observe and compare visual elements between cinema and photography. Scientific novelty. The detailed analysis of the main compositional methods designed to simplify the composition and analysis of the main components of a spectacular visual image that enhance the visual impact of cinematic photography on the viewer were conducted. Conclusions. The article describes in detail the visual features of creating cinematic street photography. The elements of street photography, the affinity of style with cinematography are generalized, the components for creating a strong visual effect on the audience are identified.

Secondary metabolites (SMs) found in medicinal plants are one of main sources of drugs, cosmetics, and health products. With the increase in demand for these bioactive compounds, improving the content and yield of SMs in medicinal plants has become increasingly important. The content and distribution of SMs in medicinal plants are closely related to environmental factors, especially light. In recent years, artificial light sources have been used in controlled environments for the production and conservation of medicinal germplasm. Therefore, it is essential to elucidate how light affects the accumulation of SMs in different plant species. Here, we systematically summarize recent advances in our understanding of the regulatory roles of light quality, light intensity, and photoperiod in the biosynthesis of three main types of SMs (polyphenols, alkaloids, and terpenoids), and the underlying mechanisms. This article provides a detailed overview of the role of light signaling pathways in SM biosynthesis, which will further promote the application of artificial light sources in medicinal plant production.

Light has a fundamental role to play in our perception of the world. It meditates the relationship between people and things within space, and is crucial to our understanding of the material culture of past societies. This chapter introduces light as the core focus of the volume; its qualities and affordances in different contexts and (im)material environments; its design and manipulation; and its elusive properties. The introduction also outlines how the contributions are structured. Chapters serve as case studies to show how diverse spatial and temporal contexts can advance archaeologies of light and with light. The volume is divided into seven thematic parts, each of which explores how light enables or hinders interactions, materializes and is being materialized, animates and illuminates, accentuates and shadows, generates symbols, meanings, and systems, creates beliefs and phenomena, transforms rituals and traditions, structures spaces, and shapes atmospheres. The volume then closes with an Afterword by Tim Ingold, who comments on the chapters and reflects on the role of light and dark as a constitutive element of the things we see around us.

In response to a light stimulus, the mammalian circadian clock first dramatically increases the expression of Per1 mRNA, and then drops to a baseline even when light persists. This phenomenon is known as light adaptation, which has been experimentally proven to be related to the CRTC1-SIK1 pathway in suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN). However, the role of this light adaptation in the circadian rhythm remains to be elucidated. To reveal the in-depth function of light adaptation and the underlying dynamics, we proposed a mathematical model for the CRTC1-SIK1 network and coupled it to a mammalian circadian model. The simulation result proved that the light adaptation is achieved by the self-inhibition of the CRTC1/CREB complex. Also, consistently with experimental observations, this adaptation mechanism can limit the phase response to short-term light stimulus, and it also restricts the rate of the phase shift in a jet lag protocol to avoid overly rapid re-entrainment. More importantly, this light adaptation is predicted to prevent the singularity behavior in the cell population, which represents the abolishment of circadian rhythmicity due to desynchronization of oscillating cells. Furthermore, it has been shown to provide refractoriness to successive stimuli with short gap. Therefore, we concluded that the light adaptation generated by the CRTC1-SIK1 pathway in the SCN provides a robust mechanism, allowing the circadian system to maintain homeostasis in the presence of light perturbations. These results not only give new insights into the dynamics of light adaptation from a computational perspective but also lead us to formulate hypotheses about the related physiological significance.

Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), is a complex disorder characterized by vascular vessel wall remodeling. LIGHT (TNFSF14) is a proinflammatory cytokine associated with vascular disease. In the present study, the impact of genetic inactivation of Light was investigated in dissecting AAA induced by angiotensin II (AngII) in the Apolipoprotein E-deficient (Apoe−/−) mice. Studies in aortic human (ah) vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) to study potential translation to human pathology were also performed. AngII-treated Apoe−/−Light−/− mice displayed increased abdominal aorta maximum diameter and AAA severity compared with Apoe−/− mice. Notably, reduced smooth muscle α-actin+ area and Acta2 and Col1a1 gene expression were observed in AAA from Apoe−/−Light−/− mice, suggesting a loss of VSMC contractile phenotype compared with controls. Decreased Opn and augmented Sox9 expression, which are associated with detrimental and non-contractile osteochondrogenic VSMC phenotypes, were also seen in AngII-treated Apoe−/−Light−/− mouse AAA. Consistent with a role of LIGHT preserving VSMC contractile characteristics, LIGHT-treatment of ahVSMCs diminished the expression of SOX9 and of the pluripotency marker CKIT. These effects were partly mediated through lymphotoxin β receptor (LTβR) as the silencing of its gene ablated LIGHT effects on ahVSMCs. These studies suggest a protective role of LIGHT through mechanisms that prevent VSMC trans-differentiation in an LTβR-dependent manner.
