The existence of a “Migrant literature” is heavily debated in German studies, especially when it comes to authors like those of the third voice, who are socialized in Germany and speak German as their mother tongue. Nonetheless, novels that deal with migration and living with migrant backgrounds have similar characteristics. This article is primarily about the topic of crossing borders in such migrant novels by Olga Grjasnowa, Sasha Marianna Salzmann and Dimitrij Kapitelman. Which effects does border crossing have on characters with a migration background? The novels examined are not only characterized by a border crossing of migration from east to west, but actually even by multiple border crossings on different levels, that are always linked to each other. The literature of the third voice unites aspects of migration, but equally also aspects of adolescent literature and family sagas. That is shown, among other things, in the presentation and meaning of boundaries and their crossings as identity-creating moments and as coping strategies. Therefore, these border crosser stories enable new perspectives compared to conventional family sagas and adolescent literature.

This Major Research Project (MRP) argues that fashion is a key tool for the critical examination of textual and visual works. Specifically, this research illustrates fashion’s impact on the social identities of young female protagonists in early-twentieth-century adolescent literature, through a comparative literary study of A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett and Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery. Engaging theories of fashion, literature, and girl culture, as well as theories of semiotics and fashion diffusion, dress is shown to be instrumental in developing episodes of closeness and friendship for the protagonists in these novels, along with moments that may isolate them. This MRP examines the illustrations and accompanying textual descriptions found in the 1905 (London) and 1908 (Boston) editions of each work in order to expose fashion’s mirroring and shaping of social identity; ultimately, this study reveals the tension between fashion’s ability to both cement and subvert dominant cultural norms and ideals at the turn of the century.

Children and Adolescent Literature have yet to find its precise definition in the corpus of Modern Malay Literature. In this regard, the works whose characters consist of adults continue to be enjoyed by children until they eventually complicate the definition of Children’s Literature. Thus, many Western folklore works such as Cinderella, Rapunzel, and others have become the focus of children's reading in Malaysia. Something needs to be done so that reading materials that encounter the East and Islamic values are served to these young people. Therefore, Hikayat Literature through the text of the Hikayat Khoja Maimun needs to be highlighted to replace Western folklore. The objective of this study is to identify characters that communicate in Hikayat Khoja Maimun and analyze the adab of communicating between the characters based on six (6) communication methods in Surah Luqman. The methodology of the study is by text analysis with three main activities to complete the objective of the study which is; to explain the character that communicates in the text of Hikayat Khoja Maimun, to identify the framework for analyzing the communication in Hikayat Khoja Maimun and to analyze the communication between the main characters based on six (6) methods of communication in the Quran through Surah Luqman i.e. through the call, symbolism, repetition, explanation, attention, and selection of idols. The study found that Hikayat Khoja Maimun reserved six (6) adab communicating in Surah Luqman. This denotes that through well-mannered communication, all matters can be delivered easily and successfully. Indeed, Hikayat Khoja Maimun as one of the works in Malay Hikayat Literature serves not only to teach but also to entertain the audience. Finally, it is time that the child reading material in Malaysia being replaced by the magnum opus inherited from generations rather than relying on Western folklore which is far deviating the audience from adab and desired values.

Spiritedly inspired by the well-known, nonsensical children’s stories Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, this satirical narrative describes common academic experiences within a fictitious frame. Many children’s stories present a foundational basis for the early life lessons of justice, truth, fairness, and how power corrupts. Therefore, regression to a simpler understanding of complex social interactions potentially frees one’s thinking, which frequently becomes muddled in adult-acquired ego, hubris, and sense of status. So, when adults act illogically (or like children), sense can be made of unreasonable juvenile actions by re-storying irrational episodes through the logical lens of adolescent literature and satire; thereby, establishing a safe distance for examining emotional issues and tapping into imagination for making meaning of taxing experiences. This deliberately playful narrative explores how in academia, the projection of privilege and power often generates troublesome challenges that lead down a political rabid hole of unsolvable riddles.

This paper analyzes the heroic narrative in the graphic novel for children and youth I Kill Giants. Since the central theme of the novel is the heroine's dealing with the loss of a parent, the analysis relies on recent research on the topic of death in children's and adolescent literature that emphasizes a close connection between this topic and gender representation/construction. Dealing with the death of loved ones and the awareness of the inevitability of one's own death in children's literature is often presented as part of the growing-up process in which heroines acquire knowledge about their position within social power structures. The paper focuses on the main structural elements of the heroic narrative, such as overcoming obstacles through action, triumphing over the enemy, perseverance, and commitment to the goal as the main features of the hero's character. From the point of view of feminist literary criticism, the paper aims to show that progressiveness in terms of gender construction, apart from the inclusion of a female character in the position of a hero, requires redefining most of the main structural elements of this predominantly male genre. These changes in the graphic novel I Kill Giants have undermined clear boundaries within the binary oppositions: male-female, private-public, civilized-wild, realistic-fantastic, rational-emotional, adult-child, showing significant possibilities for these types of interventions within the genre framework of the heroic narrative.

There are several theories about the critique of children's and adolescent literature. In this study, two theories that are more popular are reviewed and discussed: "Book-based or text-based criticism and child or audience-based criticism" of course, one can add to these two theories, the third, author-based. Undoubtedly, by examining and understanding the impact of the three theories of "audience-based, author-based, and context-based" on children's and adolescent works, more desirable results can be obtained in proving the worth or weakness of the works. Researcher seeks to critically examine children's and adolescent works based on three theories and believes that the function of triple theories in children's and adolescent works differs from that of adults and this difference is due to the specificity of the perception and understanding of the audience that must be taken into account. The method of descriptive-analytical research and data collection is often library-based.
