The ability to effectively communicate at work, home, and in life is probably one of the most important sets of skills a person needs. English as a tool of communication as standardized by International Maritime Organization (IMO), needs to be implemented in order to improve learning needs, cognitive and affective abilities, for self-confidence is considered to be a significant factor which influences the learners’ language performance. The purpose of this study is to find out the cadets’ level of self-confidence category in delivering marine communication on board and the causes of the level of the self-confidence. The research uses descriptive qualitative design. The participants of the research is deck and engine cadets semester IV from Politeknik Ilmu Pelayaran Makassar who were scheduled for practicing on the training ship. The variable of this study is the cadets’ self-confidence in delivering marine communication on board simulation. The data are collected through questionnaire, observational checklist and interview related to self-confidence of the cadets in delivering marine communication on board Training Ship Sultan Hasanuddin. The data from questionnaires were analyzed by scoring the positive and negative statement into Likert’s scale (strongly agree, agree, undecided, disagree, strongly disagree) and classified the level of sel-confidence by the score scale to determine The High Self-Confidence, Moderate Self-Confidence, and Low Self-Confidence. The results of the study show that there are three levels of cadets’ self-confidence in delivering marine communication on board simulation, they are categorized as high, moderate and low self-confidence. The cadets high self-confidence is caused by the feeling of excited to do simulation. Moderate self-confidence of cadets is caused by high motivation in English, but could not engage the indicators of people with self-confidence. However, Low self-confidence of cadets are caused by mispronunciation and unfamiliarity situation on board.

The study of semantic-syntactic compression is an urgent linguistic problem. One of the processes that lead to the statement meaning complication is adverbialisation, the essence of which is that the adverb, which is grammatically dependent on the verb, semantically refers to the statement or one of its basic proposition components. This work is carried out in line with semantic syntax and is devoted to studying the adverbial complicator functioning (adverbs that complicate the semantic structure of the sentence) in modern colloquial speech. Native speakers use these language units to add event propositions, logical propositions of characterization or comparison to a statement, to characterize the actants of basic propositions and to express the confidence category or the statement objective content evaluation as well. The adverbial complicators which can be transformed into social actions, emotional or mental states of a subject prevail in colloquial speech. Adverbs-complicators are used most frequently with the verbs of speech and intellectual activity expressing the emotional or mental state of a person. Adverbs that involve logical propositions are usually used to describe a person's behavior or character. Such language units, which are used to evaluate the objective content of a statement, prevail among the adverbs expressing modus categories.

<p>Percaya diri merupakan aspek penting bagi siswa dalam mengembangkan potensinya. Percaya diri merupakan keyakinan seseorang terhadap segala aspek kelebihan yang dimilikinya dan keyakinan tersebut membuatnya merasa mampu untuk bisa mencapai berbagai tujuan di dalam hidupnya. Tujuan Penelitian ini untuk mengatasi rendahnya percaya diri siswa. Metode Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan penelitian ini adalah rancangan penelitian pengembangan (<em>research and development</em>). Penelitian ini direncakan akan dilaksanakan selama satu tahun. Penelitian ini menggunakan lima tahapan, yaitu (1) studi pendahuluan; (2) perencanaan penelitian; (3) pengembangan produk awal; (4) uji lapangan terbatas; dan (5) revisi hasil uji lapangan terbatas. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dari studi pendahuluan awal menunjukkan bahwa 6,72% siswa memiliki percaya diri kategori sangat tinggi, 23,04% siswa memiliki percaya diri kategori tinggi, 33,6% siswa memiliki percaya diri kategori sedang, 21,12% siswa memiliki percaya diri kategori rendah, dan 7,68% siswa memiliki percaya diri kategori sangat rendah. Seyogyanya hasil penelitian ini dapat menjadi panduan bagi konselor dalam upayanya meningkatkan percaya diri siswa.</p><p align="center"> <strong><em>Abstract</em></strong></p>Self confidence is an important aspect for students in developing their potential. Self-confidence is a person's belief in all aspects of the advantages it has and that belief makes it feel able to achieve the various goals in life. The purpose of this study is to overcome the low self-esteem of students. Methods This research using the design of this research is the design of research development (research and development). This study is planned to be implemented for one year. This study uses five stages, namely (1) preliminary study; (2) research planning; (3) early product development; (4) limited field testing; and (5) revision of limited field test results. The results showed that from the preliminary preliminary study showed that 6.72% of students had very high confidence category, 23.04% students had high self-confidence category, 33.6% students had moderate self-confidence category, 21.12% confident category low, and 7.68% students have very low confidence category. The results of this study should be a guide for counselors in an effort to improve students' self-confidence.

The study is find out students’ speaking confidence category, and attitudes category, to find out using of Cooperative Learning Teaching Strategies gives the significant effect on students’ speaking confidence and to find out to what extent the using of Cooperative Learning Teaching Strategies gives the significant effect on students attitudes of the first students of SMK Bina Profesi Pekanbaru. The study of the research is quasi – experimental research where pretest and posttest design are used in this research. The sample of this research is the first students of SMK Bina Profesi Pekanbaru. They are experimental class (X AK) and control class (X UPW) by totaling 37 students. The data were collected by using questionnaire attitudes and speaking confidence test in the conversation. Cooperative Learning Teaching Strategies was used in this research. The result of this research show that 1. There is significant effect on implementing the treatment of Cooperative Learning Teaching Strategies on the students’ speaking confidence for Experiment Group. The t-test result was 30,052, its df was 27, by comparing number of significance. If probability>0,05, null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. If probability<0,05 alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. Because the significance was 0,000 < 0,05, Ha was accepted while H0 was rejected. 2. There is significant effect on implementing the treatment of Cooperative Learning Teaching Strategies on students’ attitudes for experiment group. The t-test result was -16,652,its df was 27, by comparing number of significance. Because the significance was 0,00 < 0,05, Ha was accepted while H0 was rejected.

Signal Detection Theory (SDT) is used to quantify people’s ability and biasin discriminating stimuli. The ability to detect a stimulus is often measuredthrough confidence ratings. In SDT models, the use of confidence ratingsnecessitates the estimation of confidence category thresholds, a requirementthat can easily result in models that are overly complex. As a parsimoniousalternative, we propose a threshold SDT model that estimates these categorythresholds using only two parameters. We fit the model to data from Pratte,Rouder, and Morey (2010) and illustrate its benefits over previous thresholdSDT models.

This research relates to the implementation of NHT in State Senior High School 12 (SMAN 12) Banjarmasin. The research objective is to describe that: (1) the Lesson Plan is well implemented; (2) social skill; (3) motivation on learning; (4) the learning result; (5) as well as the students’ response through the learning process. This research is Classroom Action Research (CAR) of Hopkins model which is divided in 3 phases. To collect the data of this research is using questioners, observation, test, and documentation. The data is analyzed descriptively qualitatively and quantitavely. The result of the research: (1) the Lesson Plan that implemented in the faze 1 is 88,25%,, II 97,75%, and III 100% with very good result; (2) The students’ social skill enhance in every phase; (3) student motivation on learning in phase I for the attention and satisfaction aspects was in good category, aspects of relevance and confidence category was in quite good, phase II of all aspects was in good category, but aspect of confidence was still in pretty good category, and the phase III of all aspect was in good category; (4) the result of the students’ learning classically enhanced, in phase I is about 45% (not passed), II 83% (ot passed), and III 100% (passed); (5) the response of interest to follow cooperative learning is good category. To obtain the conclusion that the application of cooperative learning type NHT can enhance students motivation.
