This report from the field concerns a collaborative project which resulted in successfully adding the Cyrillic fields to about 30,000 Ukrainian bibliographic records in OCLC WorldCat, the world’s largest online catalogue. Historically, the Ukrainian records in English-speaking libraries were only provided in transliteration according to the Library of Congress Romanization Table. However, the current standards also require the original script, such as the Ukrainian Kyrylytsia. While automating the Cyrillicization of Ukrainian legacy records is theoretically straightforward, in practice it faced more than one challenge, from poor quality of transliteration to the historical changes in Ukrainian orthography. The report presents the OCLC Ukrainian Cyrillicization project and discusses the steps in its implementation as an example of a successful collaboration in the areas of bibliographic automation, Ukrainian philology and culture, Slavic cataloguing, and linguistics.

В статье раскрыто понятие финансового анализа. Обоснована значимость автоматизации анализа финансовой устойчивости предприятий. Выявлены основные пользователи анализа финансовой устойчивости организации. В данной работе имеет место описание программных продуктов для осуществления финансового анализа, проведен сравнительный анализ программ, посредством которого выявлены основные базовые возможности, предоставляемые продуктами для автоматизации анализа финансовой устойчивости, и их особенности. Также в процессе работы был разработан сайт, предназначенный для автоматизированного расчета анализа финансового состояния предприятий (в данной статье имеется краткий обзор сайта). В результате разработки в качестве примера проведен анализ финансового состояния предприятия ОАО «Грознефтегаз». Программа присвоила предприятию 3 класс финансовой устойчивости, что говорит о том, что предприятие имеет удовлетворительное финансовое состояние и риск взаимоотношений контрагентов с ней значителен. Данный результат позволит судить о необходимости практического пользования представленным сайтом. The article reveals the concept of financial analysis. The importance of automating the analysis of the financial stability of enterprises is substantiated. The main users of the analysis of the financial stability of the organization are identified. In this paper, there is a description of software products for financial analysis, a comparative analysis of programs is carried out, through which the main basic capabilities provided by products for automating the analysis of financial stability and their features are identified. Also in the process of work, a website was developed designed for automated calculation of the analysis of the financial condition of enterprises (this article has a brief overview of the site). As a result of the development, as an example, an analysis of the financial condition of the enterprise of JSC “Grozneftegaz” was carried out. The program assigned the company a class 3 financial stability, which indicates that the company has a satisfactory financial condition and the risk of counterparty relationships with it is significant. This result will allow us to judge the need for practical use of the presented site.

Abstract Aiming to make the well planning process leaner and agile focusing on duration reduction without compromising quality of deliverables, automation opportunities have been identified within the multi-discipline iterations. The two key criteria considered for the selection of the automation project were: Minimum deployment effort and Maximum value added in efficiency. The initial project objective was to calculate formation tops for a well engineer without requiring the intervention of a geoscientist using commercial software. The methodology utilized is the following: 1. Inputs: Well trajectory and Surfaces. 2. Process: The algorithm finds intersections between surfaces and well trajectory. Surfaces and trajectory are represented as a set of XYZ points. To find the intersection, the software iterates through each point of the trajectory from the top, comparing the depth of the projection to the target surface. The projected depth to the surface is found by 2D interpolation of the surface. Once the trajectory point becomes deeper than the surface projection, the intersection is estimated using geometrical considerations of similar triangles. 3. Deliverables: Estimated formation tops for the given trajectory. 4. Results: Simple in-house developed software enhanced well planning workflow in an Offshore Green Field. The software converted to single executable file and can be run on any device without the open-source software installed. Very accurate results achieved with proposed algorithm with a negligible difference of 0.5 feet with the geoscience traditional software. Well planning duration reduced from average 1 week to 1 or 2 days. The workload for well engineers and the asset team has been dramatically reduced. Reduction of the number of commercial geoscience software licenses required. Way forward: A test with a slightly modified code was used to generate formation tops for more than 400 well in a Long-Term Field Development Plan project for a Brown Field during feasibility study. Upscale to all the Fields within the organization. Improve User Interface for better adoption. Include more formats for both, trajectories, and surfaces. Reduce computing time. This project represents the first initiative in the organization aiming to automate the well planning process. Overall, it represents the beginning of a journey where multiple opportunities for automation can be achieved using an open-source coding software that allows any engineer with little to no experience coding to being able to generate solutions to address daily challenges.

This study attempted to explore the gradual advancement of modern technology in libraries, it distinguished old and new innovations, creative efforts of librarians and information technologists through the various generations of automation revolution. The study also identify various components of the Integrated Library System (ILS) or Library Management System (LMS) which are used or being used in Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU) library as well as the services automated by the system. The study also identifies the exact reasons for adopting KOHA in UMYU library. It also explains the impact, challenges associated with the University library automation system. The study adopted quantitative approach as research paradigm; with survey as research methods. Questionnaires were the instrument used for data collection. The population of 42 library staff was used for the study. The data for the study were analyzed using tables and frequencies. From the findings of the study the two main services fully automated were the Circulation and Cataloguing, the library adopted the use of the KOHA ILS as it was a free open source and secondly for greater opportunities and innovation. However, retrospective conversion and Low Level of Literacy were the major challenges and a setback for the KOHA ILS implementation in the library understudy. The study recommended the need for the increase investment in the automation project to speed up the implementation of automation systems.

We draw on the grounded theory methodology to analyze an automation project in a global parcel delivery company, as implemented in three parcel sorting hubs in two countries, seeking to identify key factors in successful change and the role of the change leader. We show that a crucial—but often neglected—aspect of successful change is the detection and management of tensions stemming from uncertainty. By recognizing and managing uncertainty and tensions (in this case, manual vs. automated, corporate vs. site, and planned vs. emergent), the change leader, here the industrial engineering function, can orchestrate the differing views and expectations of corporate actors toward a successful implementation of a change program. In line with recent theories on paradoxes and tensions in organizational change, our empirical outcomes imply that effective leadership of change requires the conscious acceptance of uncertainty and tensions between opposite options in key decision areas.

Abstract: The processes starting with the identification and registration of treasury properties have an essential place in the cadastral systems. Spatial data modelling studies were conducted in 2002 to establish a common standard structure on the fundamental similarities of land management systems. These studies were stated as a beginning named Core Cadastral Domain Model (CCDM), since 2006, it has been started to be made under the name of LADM. This model was accepted in 2012 as a standard model in the field of land administration by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). In this study, an external model class is proposed for LADM’s transactions related to Treasury’s real estates properties which are related National Property Automation Project (MEOP). In order to determine the deficiency of this current external model, databases containing records related to spatial data and property rights were examined, and the deficiencies related to transactions on treasury properties were determined. The created external class is associated with the LADM’s LA_Party, LA_RRR, LA_SpatialUnit and LA_BAUnit master classes. Herewith the standardization of the external data model is ensured. If the external model is implemented by the responsible standardization of the archiving processes will be more comfortable and faster to register.

The field of study of autonomous trucks especially in open pit mines has been the subject of considerable research over the past three decades. In the last ten years in particular, interest in this area has improved considerably. The implementation of autonomous systems is an integral organizational and cultural change. This work is a guideline for the safe and effective implementation of autonomous trucks in mines. It provides an integral view of the different approaches to implementing autonomous mining trucks with respect to safety criteria, operating costs, etc. It also presents the criteria and measures to be considered when maintaining the haulage routes (vertical/horizontal/combined alignment) that are a vital component for the success of an automation project. Mine site designers and planners should ensure that the design and construction of traffic areas for these trucks are compatible with autonomy and minimize interactions with personnel and non-autonomous equipment. A proposed infrastructural requirement for the autonomous truck zone is presented in this work.

This paper reviews the initiatives taken by the library of Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka (BPUSL) to achieve the SDGs to create sustainable environment in the library as well as in the university. It also discusses various steps taken by the university as well as the other units connecting it to information as a strategic resource and attempts an articulation of the concept of sustainable information and quality education, building on sustainable future at the university under the theme of “sustainable university”. The article discusses further recent initiatives taken to upgrade the quality of the library services,  automation project to automate the whole library collection, scanning important rare and old books to create digital archive, preparing attractive library building by planting flowers and facilitating natural resources for reading areas addressing the goals on quality and equitable education, gender equity, literacy skills, health, and the promotion of peaceful and inclusive societies, justice and strong institutions. The main objective of the article is to share reflective practices among LIS professionals in the field. Action research method was applied to write this article as it describes the reflective practices which promote sustainable future in the university and future endeavors as well. The paper concludes with suggestions on integrating concepts of sustainable information into higher education and role of information professionals towards the achievement of sustainable goals.

Abstract The work in this paper is a part of the T-shirt cannon automation project. The objective of the project is to develop an autonomous robot carrying cannons to automatically shoot T-shirts during the sports events at the University of Cincinnati (UC). More specifically, the T-shirt cannon will be used and driven by the UC cheerleading team and be able to automatically shoot T-shirts at the audience in the Nippert Stadium and the 5/3 Arena for football and basketball games, respectively. The design and automation of the T-shirt cannon require a significant effort and a multi-disciplinary team to complete. This paper will focus on the process of designing, building, and testing the firing mechanism for the cannon, including the determination of cannon’s firing method, barrel design and assembly, base design and barrel mounting method, pneumatic analysis, and automation and control of the firing of T-shirts. The goal of the firing mechanism is that the cannon would fire off as many T-shirts as possible with the window of a single timeout at the game. The project starts with the preliminary research and the initial testing. During the preliminary research, the relevant safety standards/codes and previous T-shirt cannon designs were reviewed and studied. Especially the possible working with pressurized air, the material used in the design must be rated above the target firing pressure to ensure the cannon itself not explode and the air supply tank and fittings must be in good condition. During the initial testing, the site visits were conducted, the cheerleaders were interviewed, the dimensions of the stadium and the 5/3 arena were measured, and therefore the shooting distance and shooting angles were estimated. After the initial testing and preliminary research, a set of engineering characteristics were established, following by the concept design, in which the barrel assembly, the pneumatics, the firing mechanism, and the mounting method were discussed, analyzed, and determined. The barrels had two major designs, one is using a railing support system with an external tank of air to power and fire the cannon, and another one is using a chamber of air to power and fire the cannon with the barrels surrounding the air chamber itself. Two methods are analyzed and compared. The optimum one, therefore, was determined and developed. For the firing mechanism, two main designs are a spring-loaded firing mechanism that could increase the sealing capabilities of the barrels, and a tight tolerance fit that has less weight. Two designs were tested and analyzed, the optimum one was determined and built, followed by the firing mechanism testing. This paper will describe the process of design, building, and testing the firing mechanisms of this T-shirt cannon at UC. The paper will also discuss the testing results on shooting performance.
