The article reviews publications devoted to geological and geomorphological monuments of Ukraine highlights specific features of their formation in different regions and reveals their importance for the development of nature-cognitive tourism as a basis for the formation of the tourism industry. The methodological unity of the concepts "geological monuments" and "geomorphological monuments", which characterize the original course of natural processes and their results and therefore have great scientific and cognitive value are considered. Emphasis is placed on the important participation of geomorphological processes in the formation of natural monuments, which show different geological monuments on the earth's surface and reflect not only the features of geological factors but also the diversity of relief processes, their dynamics, which determines the status of most monuments as "geological and geomorphological". Important for establishing the protection status of geological and geomorphological monuments are the developed criteria for assessing the aesthetics of the relief of Ukraine, its uniqueness, the presence of features "architecture-composition", combination with other elements of the landscape, stability or mobility, imagery – photogenicity, visual effect, emotional perception, attractiveness, etc. It is noted that the category of natural phenomena "geological and geomorphological monuments" is characterized by significant conservatism compared to other components of the natural environment. Such monuments are carriers of paleogeographic and ethnocultural content, which, in addition to scientific significance, gives them the status of interesting tourist attractions. This creates an opportunity for the development of nature-cognitive tourism, which can be both independent and successfully complements all other known types of tourism. Geological and geomorphological monuments influence the nature of recreational activities. The specificity and sequence of recreational functions of the relief of Ukraine according to the special properties of endogenous, exogenous, and anthropogenic genetic varieties of recreational geological and geomorphological monuments have been established. Carry out monitoring of the track “Skole−Parashka” by the main five criteria of degradation of the natural environment: 1) width track (І category: to 0,5 m, “Unchanged track”; II category: to 1 m, “Little−changed track”; III category: 2−3 m “Endangered track”; IV category: to 5 m “Devastated track”; V category: over 5 m, “Strongly devastated track”); 2) presence of additional/parallel paths; 3) soil density; 4) quantitative and qualitative changes in vegetation (meadow ecosystems), presence/absence of forest litter (forest ecosystems); 5) the growth of erosion processes and the microrelief of the trail. It was found that for 10 years of exploitation by tourist track “Skole − Parashka” the width of the trail increased by 0,3–1,2 m. Reveal changes in soil over physical, water-physical, physicо-chemical and biotic properties of brown forest soils. The bulk density of soil structure on trails during 2012−2014 increased by approximately 32 % compared to the control, and after 10 years it increased − to 38 %. To reveal within the roadside an increase in soil bulk density from 1,07 to 1,17 g•cm-³ for 2019−2021 years. An increase in the density of the solid phase was recorded. The results of which are characteristic of the Hp horizon of brown forest soils. On the track porosity total to appraise “unsatisfactory”. For 10 years of recreational use of the track, the water permeability on the trails has not changed and was 0,07 and 0,06 mm•min-¹ according to the periods of the study (2012-2014 and 2019-2021). Within the roadside water permeability in 2012−2014 decreased by 60−80%, then in 2019−2021 years water permeability decreased by more than 90%. The actual water permeability of the soil during the downpour rains causes the intensification of surface runoff on the trail. On the track reveal abatement C organic. The article presents the results of the study of horizontal riverbed deformations of the Sukil river in the area from the town of Bolekhiv to its confluence with the Svicha river during 1880–2019. The studied section of the riverbed is located within the Precarpathian height and is marked by significant dynamics of the riverbed, which is mainly due to frequent floods, including catastrophic ones. The analysis of long-term horizontal riverbed deformations of the Sukil river and identification of the main factors of their manifestation were carried out in three stages. The first stage involved an assessment of the riverbed displacement over a long-term period of tens of years and was performed based on topographic maps of 1880, 1929-1939, and 1990. The second stage focused on the analysis of the riverbed displacement during a short-term period of 5-7 years and was conducted on the basis of Google Earth satellite images of 2006, 2011, and 2017–2019. The third stage was dedicated to the verification of the obtained results by field research and to the identification of the main reasons for the development of horizontal riverbed deformations. The analysis of historical maps and satellite images was mainly conducted by cartographic methods using ArcGIS 10.1. The riverbed of the Sukil river has significant differences in the development of horizontal deformations on the section of Bolekhiv – the village of Podorozhnie (the mouth of the river). According to the type of manifestation and scale of the riverbed deformations development, two sections (hereinafter dynamic sections) with significant horizontal deformations have been identified: the first one – from Bolekhiv to the village of Lysovychi; the second one – from the village of Lysovychi to the village of Podorozhnie (the Sukil mouth). On dynamic section 1, the horizontal deformations are differently manifested depending on the type of the riverbed. The maximum displacements which were found on the meandering sections are approximately 340 m. They were recorded during the period of 1880–1939. On the sections with a “transitional” type of riverbeds (in the late 19th-early 20th century they were braided, and now they are single channel), the deformations are small (up to 60 m) and are manifested mainly within the boundaries of the riverbed. On dynamic section 2, the Sukil riverbed is meandering and the deformations are much larger. The maximum riverbed displacements reach approximately 500 m (during the period of 1880–1939). For dynamic section 2 as well as for the whole section of the Sukil riverbed from Bolekhiv to the mouth, a certain tendency of the riverbed changes on the plan has been revealed. Thus, from 1889 to 1990 we observe a decrease in the meandering of the riverbed caused by anthropogenic influence, in particular, by the straightening of the riverbed in the 70-80s of the last century and by change in the position of the mouth; since 1990, a natural increase in the Sukil riverbed’s meandering has been observed. The analysis of four stages of relief development is done, which created the corresponding complexes within the Solotvyno hollow. The main attention is paid to the morphostructural and morphosculptural features. The morphostructures of the third and fourth orders are distinguished. Among the elements of morphosculpture the main attention is paid to denudation and denudation-accumulative surfaces (Kycherska, Skrydeyska, Boronyavska). The role of the new technological movements in the formation of these surfaces and river valleys was rated. The second stage of the upper baden is associated with the retreat of the sea basin and the division of the land into mountains. The main features of the modern relief were formed in the Pliocene Pleistocene stage - a river network with a complex of terraces, denudation and denudation-accumulative surfaces, quest forms in the marginal zone. Age of the Kicherska denudation surface is pannon-pont. According to the palynological analysis, the estimated age of the Skrydei denudation-accumulative surface is upper pliocene-lower pleistocene. The age of the Boronyava surface is considered to be Eopleistocene, and pebbles of metamorphic rocks are present in its alluvium (up to 5%). In the modern period, newer differentiated tectonic movements have become more active, which have contributed to the active manifestation of exogenous processes: erosion, landslides, and halogen karst. Representatives of the specialty, science or scientific field periodically discuss their condition, problems, prospects for development. This applies to a large extent to geomorphology as geological and geographical science. The analysis of its status, problematic issues, state and prospects of development was highlighted during the 70th anniversary of the Department of Geomorphology and Paleogeography of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, which was celebrated by the geomorphological community of Ukraine and neighboring countries in 2020. The All-Ukrainian scientific-practical conference "Current state and prospects of development of geomorphology and paleogeography in Ukraine" was dedicated to this matter. It featured reports by Lydia Dubis, Jaroslav Kravchuk, Ivan Kovalchuk, Volodymyr Stetsiuk, Andriy Bogutsky, Roman Spitsa, Natalia Gerasimenko, Galyna Bayrak, Petro Voloshin, Oleksandr Mkrtchyan, Andriy Yatsyshyn and other researchers, which reflected modern trends in geomorphological and paleogeographical research. Given this fact, we will try to answer a range of questions that are raised by both the geomorphologists themselves and in specialists in related fields of geographical and geological science. These include, in particular: can we consider the attention, paid to the analysis of the current state of the science of relief and the processes of relief formation in Ukraine sufficient? What are the achievements of geomorphology of the 20s of the XXI century? How does Ukrainian geomorphology relate to foreign geomorphology in research methods, results obtained, and public recognition? What problems does geomorphological and paleogeographic science have to solve in order to remain modern and socially important? What obstacles does it have to overcome? What prospects await her? The highlighted research results are based on the analysis of publications, reports at conferences of various ranks, creative work of the founders of Ukrainian geomorphology, its protagonists who worked in the XIX - XXI centuries or continue to work today, summarizing the results of own research on geomorphological science. The forest cover of Drohobych district is vectorized with the help of remote sensing of the Earth based on space images QuickBird. The geospatial analysis of forest lands of the foothills and lowlands of the Ukrainian Carpathians has been carried out. It is found that the proportion of forest throughout the region is higher than the average forest cover of Lviv region and more than doubled the average forest cover of Ukraine. Even though the forest cover of Drohobych district is more than optimal indicators for this natural area, forest land is extremely unevenly distributed. A created schematic map of forest resources has shown that the most forested is the mountainous part of the region with the absolute height between 500-1000 m, which decreases in the direction from southwest to northeast. Forest area significantly decreases at the changeover to Drohobych Upland, because of the extension of the boundaries and areas of influence of the Drogobych agglomeration increasing densities of human settlements. In the northeast section of the region, the forest is almost missing due to the significant agricultural development in the plains with a superior absolute height between 250–300 m. For the better analysis of the forest cover of the territory, the geoinformation model of the forest cover of Drohobych district from the perspective of administrative units is created and analyzed. This model allows to classify administrative units according to the proportion of forest land in 6 categories because a considerable variation of indicators is seen in the region. From completely deforested administrative units to rural councils in mountainous areas, where the proportion of forest areas is more than 70%. Administrative units with an insufficient level of reforestation, which are half of all in Drohobych district and with the reforestation level lower than average in Ukraine, are featured. Features of the geospatial distribution of such indicators are noted. It is analyzed that forest cover in urban and rural councils changes from significant in the town council of Boryslav to almost missing forest areas in the rural council of Medenychi. The reasons for such differences between the indicators are identified and the peculiarities of household land development of the territories that belong to urban and rural councils are stated. Paper considers ecological geomorphometry as the scientific area aimed at the study of place and functions of terrain and modern morphogenetic processes in the functioning of other components of natural environment, ecosystems, and in shaping of the conditions for human activities, applying the methods of quantitative spatial analysis. Some terminological issues are considered, as well as a short history of geomorphometry, its main tasks and research methods. In particular, the methods of quantitative analysis of the structure of terrain surface are considered, namely –the detection of the spatial trends, of periodicity, and of the spatial autocorrelation. The capabilities of the method of autocovariogram building and analysis are shown for the purpose of the studies of terrain elements, forms and types, their automatic delineation and classification. The basics of ecologically grounded classification of morphometric variables are considered, as well as the principles of the delineation of complex morphometric variables (topographic ecological indices), which reflect the impact of terrain morphology on ecological processes and ecological factors distributions. The main principles of ecological classification of terrain elements are also considered, together with the automatic delineation of terrain forms and types on the basis of their geometric signatures, that are defined through the distribution of the set of morphometric variables and the parameters of their spatial variability. Paper also reviews former studies by the author in the areas of morphometric analysis of the terrain surfaces of several study areas in Ukrainian Carpathians; the automatic terrain classification and segmentation; the analysis of the relationships between morphometric variables and ecological factors, the character of ground cover and the vegetation. The article describes the tourist potential of the Kryvchytsy microdistrict, located near the densely populated city of Lviv. Possibilities of combining socio-historical and natural-geographical tourist attractions in tour routes have been clarified. Socio-historical attractions related to medieval and modern sacred architecture, archeological artifacts, places of residence of famous people, the Holocaust monuments have been explored. A part of the socio-historical attractions of Kryvchytsy is connected with the heritage of the railway industry of the beginning-middle of the XX century. This is a serpentine-shaped railway, which shortly overcomes a 100 meters’ tall path that goes on top of arched bridges, through a car highway, near river flows that started their existence in the Austrian period in Lviv, some railway bridges that were built in the Polish period and the huge iron bridge that was constructed in the Soviet period. The high bridge-like structure is also valuable as a good spectating point of landscapes. The authors believe that the resumption of railway traffic on this branch of the track for tourist needs would be economically viable if we implemented appropriate advertising, gastronomic, entertainment and other attractions. We explored the natural-geographical monuments that have the value of the geo-heritage objects, compositions of geo-sites and geo-morphosites. They illustrate the geological history of the territory (a typical section of the Cretaceous-Neogene rocks), geomorphological features of the hills-remnants and varieties of modern geomorphological processes. Along with geo-tourism objects, the islands of unique phyto- and zoo-cenoses were described as a place that started it’s existence only because of the conditions of the urban region, as well as a good source of drinking water. There were also shown the needs of learning and exploring the geo-touristical objects. On the basis of the conducted scientific researches of social-historical and geo-touristical attractions two cognitive and local lore routes are formed by the Kryvchytsy massif which unites the modern traditions and tendencies of development of the local lore in excursion activity. Authors have developed a map with a trek of sightseeing tour routes for guides from Lviv to use it. A lot of attention is paid to the greening of tourism, the balance of socio-historical and natural objects of excursions, the health component of the organization of the tourist process. Geomorphological and geological features of the eastern part of Lviv have been analyzed. A new, extremely picturesque and informative tourist, recreational and geo-educational route has been developed, namely “Chatovi Rocks – Vynnykivske Lake –Medova Pechera”, which forms an extension of “Vysokyi Zamok – Chatovi rocks” tourist route. Picturesque relief, exposure of sediments of various ages and genesis, as well as rich archeological monuments occurring along the routecan perform educational, educational, cognitive, ecological, and aesthetic functions. Archaeological memorials, little known to the general public, are extremely valuable, too, because they illustrate the history of populating the city of Lviv and its neighborhood. Mostly inanimate objects located along the route are well accessible for exploration; however, today they are not very popular among Lviv residents. This is primarily due to the lack of proper infrastructure – marked trails, information stands, etc. Anthropogenic impact on the objects located along the proposed route is extremely diverse and large-scale. Some sites (such as Chatovi Rocks and Medova Pechera) are affected heavily, as they are actively used for hiking, mountaineering, etc. Others (for example, Zhupan and Lysivka archeological monuments) virtually do not experience it. The monuments of Mlynivtsi I and II are exposed to the greatest threat, up to complete destruction. They are endangered due to the extensive construction of a new sports and recreation complex, deployed around Vynnykivsky Lake. The refore, the condition of these facilities needs to be monitored continuously. On the other hand, the said complex will open up new prospects for the use of picturesque relief, complex geomorphological and geological structure of the eastern part of Lviv in the future recreational and geo-educational activities. There is no doubt that the new center of attraction, created by the sports and recreation complex, will increase the attendance of Vynnykivsky Forest Park. Therefore, the need to establish appropriate tourist, recreational, geo-educational infrastructure along “Chatovi Rocks – Vynnykivske Lake – Medova Pechera” route is obvious today. The relief and geological structure of Carpathian Biosphere Reserve represent the features of the geological and geomorphological structure of the four geomorphological regions of the Ukrainian Carpathians. The block mid-mountains of the Polonynsko-Chornohirsky Carpathians (Chornohora, Svydovets, and Uholsko-Shyrokoluzhansky massifs) and the folded mid-mountains of Marmarosy crystal massif (Marmarosy and Kuziy-Trybushansky massifs) are well protected within the reserve. The analysis of the morphostructure and morphosculpture of the reserve is carried out taking into account the longitudinal (NW–SE) and transverse divisions of the Ukrainian The analysis of the morphostructure and morphosculpture of the reserve is carried out taking into account the longitudinal (NW–SE) and transverse divisions of the Ukrainian Carpathians. The longitudinal division is associated with morphostructures of higher orders, such as second and third. The transverse division is associated with the fourth and fifth orders of morphostructures. In the analysis of morphosculpture of the reserve, the types characterized for all regions of Flysch and Crystal Carpathians are allocated. All mountain massifs and ridges could be characterized by an asymmetrical structure, such as steep northeastern slopes and acclivous southwestern slopes. The relic morphosculpture is represented by: 1) fragments of denudation surfaces of different ages such as Polonynska, Pidpolonynska, and riparian; 2) ancient glacial and extra glacial landforms; 3) areas of ancient longitudinal valleys. River valleys with a complex of different age terraces represent inherited morphosculpture. Modern morphodynamic processes are represented by height (tier) differentiation. The processes of sheet erosion, deflation, and rill erosion play an important role in the relief modeling for the tiers of strongly dissected mid-mountain relief. The lower tier of the terraced and non-terraced bottoms of the valleys are associated with the processes of leaching and erosion as well as a significant accumulation of erosion products and mudflows. Stabilized and active displacements are the most recorded among the gravitational processes and block motions.
