In order to issue a water permit, which allows abstraction of water in a given place, the issuer needs to make sure, based on the hydrology of the region, that the amount of water available in the water body is sufficient to meet not only the demand associated with the required entitlement, but also all the existing demands from other users in the basin. This paper aims at evaluating the usefulness of the SAD-IPH mathematical model to simulate water demand scenarios in the Ribeirão Taquaruçu basin, located in the city of Palmas, state of Tocantins. Simulations provided by the SAD-IPH model indicate that the balance between water availability and demand is already critical in some parts of the basin, especially during the dry season, and the situation worsens over time. These results clearly suggest the local water utility needs to search for new water sources to meet the growing demand, mainly during the dry season. Results show the mathematical tool used in the analysis provides new and valuable information to decision makers (water resources institutions and river basin committees), potentially reducing the risk of making bad decisions. Additionally, as a water security measure, it is crucial to enforce the preservation of sensitive areas in the watershed because there is already an intense occupation in preserved areas next to water sources, a process that is likely to result in water yield reduction, which combined with an increase in the water demand over time, will compromise water security.

This article aims to discuss the spread of horizontal condominiums and planned neighborhoods in the city of Passo Fundo - RS, in the decade of 2010. It is assumed that the new real estate products redefine the processes of socio-spatial segregation, showing the dispersion of the classes of middle and high income for peripheral areas, traditionally occupied by the low-income population. The reframing of the periphery denotes the complexification of the intra-urban socio-spatial structure, indicating the emergence of new patterns of socio-spatial segregation, superimposed on the traditional center-periphery model, constituted in the 20th century. In this context, it is argued that it is possible to recognize ongoing common processes, characterized by significant disruptions with the previous logic of production of intra-urban space.

The MO´Ã Foundation in Rio Grande do Sul / Brazil is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) of Studies and Research for Environmental Protection and Development and works through actions and projects aimed at Environmental Education. In 2007 the MO´Ã Foundation acquired an area of 24 hectares of Atlantic Forest that was classified as a Private Reserve of Natural Heritage (RPPN), in 2015, after a long and complex process. In Guimarães, Portugal, the Sisterhood of Nossa Senhora do Carmo da owns about 60 hectares of the area where it receives the devotees and promotes the management of green space and the conservation of tourist infrastructure and religious heritage. In 2019, the Municipality of Guimarães submitted the application of Monte da Penha to a locally protected area, in a process still under evaluation by the Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests. The work presented aims to infer the role of the private sector in the administration and shared management of protected areas, in a comparative analysis between the MO´Ã Foundation and the Sisterhood of Penha. Based on a systematic review of a database in journals (CAPES, EBSCO, SCIELO, Open Access Scientific Repositories of Portugal), documents, fieldwork and interviews, we conclude that private institutions assume a fundamental relevance in the governance of areas protected, ensuring the main objective of these: the conservation and / or protection of nature in a sustainable way.

Sustainable tourism is one of the concerns of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which, although not recent, is gaining more strength and space in the discourses and policies about tourism. Thus the principles of sustainability have been incorporated into the behavior and procedures of the agents involved in the activity in order to mitigate the negative effects. The hotel sector, an active part in this process, is increasingly demanding a conscientious attitude, as well as the adoption of measures and standards of conduct that seek to reduce its socio-environmental impacts. This work proposes to evaluate sustainability practices in the environmental, economic and social dimensions, as well as their degree of applicability, by the hotel sector in the municipality of Bragança, northeast of Trás-os-Montes, from the data collected through a questionnaire survey to managers of all tourist accommodation units. An exploratory and descriptive statistical analysis was performed using the SPSS statistical analysis program. The results revealed a moderate level of hotel sustainability, suggesting that the adoption of sustainable practices is still incipient and that much still remains to be done for the hotels in Bragança to contribute effectively to sustainable tourism. Although this work is restricted to a small territory it opens a window of opportunity to replicate this methodology, in other territories or even at national level, including a larger number of units as well as more specific and adapted indicators.

The work is part of a joint diagnostic effort in the micro-region of Presidente Kubistchek, in Serra do Espinhaço, through a partnership between the Espinhaço Institute and the Federal University of Lavras (UFLA). This work seeks to analyze the limits and possibilities for an Integrated Cultural Territory Management (GCIT) in the micro-region and to propose methodological alternatives for new interventions in the territory. As a reference, the conceptual basis of GCIT was used. Methodologically, the diagnosis of the UFLA team was analyzed, which generated data through Participant Observation and focus groups. The results show that the method used to collect data from the pre-diagnosis requires greater participation by the various groups in the territories, aiming at empowering the actors and a transdisciplinary view on the data. Subsequently, at a time of diagnosis, with all groups debating the data generated, the study points out the possibilities for a reflection and understanding of the territory in a perspective of space, time and causality. As a way to enhance medium and long-term actions, the study outlines the need for Resource Centers and Spaces of Memories that open the way for debate between generations, aiming at a symbolic appropriation of territories and their territorialities, with the objective of structuring proposals medium and long term for the micro-region of Presidente Kubistchek

The hydrological models are important tools to evaluate the hydrological behavior of watersheds, helping in the decision making. Thus, this study had the objective of evaluating the performance of the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model in the flow simulation in the Ribeirão Taquaruçu Hydrographic Basin. Flow data from two fluviometric stations were used from April 2013 to August 2015. The results of the sensitivity analysis indicated that the most influential parameters are the SOL_K (saturated hydraulic conductivity of the soil) and CN2 (curve number for the condition II). The Nash-Sutcliffe (NSE) objective functions and the determination coefficient (R2) indicated, in the calibration period, the following values: -0.05 and 0.55 (sub-basin 1); 0.51 (sub-basin 3), respectively. In the validation period, the following results were presented for NSE and R2: 0.44 and 0.54 (sub-basin 1); 0.24 and 0.29 (sub-basin 3), in that order. Considering that the object of study is responsible for a large part of the water supply of Palmas - TO and that the program was unable to simulate the minimum flows adequately, the results are considered unsatisfactory

The territorial planning in the Southeast Region of Brazil was marked by marked economic cycles of land use and occupation. To assess this dynamic, surveys of historical and natural data from Ribeirão Preto – SP. In this context, the method of space-temporal analysis was adopted, based on the mapping of land use and occupation, from the reconstitution of the map of the use of 1910, together with the mapping of satellite images and aerial photographs by the method of oriented classification the object of 1973, 1985, 1995, 2005, 2015, 2019. The objective was to quantify the uses, trace trends, evaluate the effectiveness of public policies and highlight potential and environmental risks. The maps reveal the growth and expansion of agricultural frontiers, which indicates a change in the region's economic base, which has gone from being a major coffee producer to a sugarcane and agribusiness production hub. Such changes reflect the drop in the price of coffee and the federal programs to encourage the production of sugar and ethanol. Thus, the land ownership structure has not undergone major changes and continues to be dominated by large properties, but now managed by holding companies and anonymous society. Urbanization took place at an accelerated rate and was driven by the green revolution, mainly from 1960, resulting in the strong rural exodus in the region. This process resulted in a series of socio-environmental impacts, related to irregular occupations of areas for housing and increased urban and rural violence, in addition to the increased demand for natural resources, such as, for example, the increased demand for water and consequently of the waters of the Guarani Aquifer System, which resulted in the lowering of the water table and caused restrictions on its use. In addition, the region's native vegetation has been almost completely deforested and the soils show signs of accelerated erosion locally, which tends to have a deleterious impact on surface water resources, which are already suffering from municipal and industrial effluent discharge. In this context, the Ribeirão Preto region is a global agricultural economic hub, which depends on its natural potential. Therefore, the sustainable planning of territorial use and occupation should have as a priority to protect and preserve these natural resources, given the historical dependence of the municipality on it.

The development of protocols for an efficient monitoring of rivers quality is extremely important for urban planning. This paper shows up the Rapid Urban River Assessment Protocol (RUAP) and the results of its application in the Palmital River, located in an area of public water supply in the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba (RMC), in the State of Paraná - Brazil. Four points were analyzed in the lower third of the river and it was figured out with low quality status of the river and with environmental degradation. RUAP was proved to be a simple and accessible tool for monitoring river environments and that can be used by environmental agencies, as well as in formal and informal education of the population, supporting the popular participation in decision-making involving urban plannings.

Changes in land use have been detrimental to natural ecosystems. In Argentina, the Espinal ecoregion is one of the most affected, with only a few relics remaining. The province of Córdoba is one of the largest agricultural producers, which led to the modification of natural ecosystems, losing the environmental services they provide. This happens in the city of Villa María and especially in its peri-urban territory. The identification and analysis of the fragmentation of the ecosystem structures in this peri-urban area provide a different way of identifying the new ecosystem structures to be considered in the territorial planning of medium or small cities. Six ecosystemic structures (patches) were identified: Residual Ecosystems, Neoecosystems, Neosols, Neohumedales, Surface Runoff Neoredes, and Geophagy. It's processing through a Geographic Information System allowed mapping the survey results and identifying the environmental services that they provide. The fieldwork allowed to show the richness and diversity present; however, their distance and size denote the vulnerability of the patches. The importance of the structures in terms of the provision of services demands the need to consolidate political strategies in municipal management aimed at protecting the patches.
