In its role, the media is the conveyor of information through discourses that will influence the perception of the masses. The presentation of a news cannot be separated from the ideology of the media and media journalists. The choice of words used by journalists in a text shows how one's meaning of facts or reality is based on ideology. Critical discourse analysis is always interesting to study more deeply. Discourse by Van Dijk is described as having three dimensions or structures: text, social cognition, and social context. This study aims to describe the analysis of Van Dijk discourse in the text dimension of the news on the prohibition of going home in the media Tempo.com and Kompas.com. The approach used in this research is descriptive qualitative with note-taking techniques and Teun A. Van Dijk's discourse analysis techniques. The results showed three structures of the news text. The macro structure shows differences in global coherence, the first news is about the negative impact of policies while the second news is policy considerations. The superstructure consists of summaries and stories based on selected perspectives from global coherence. While in the micro structure there are semantic, syntactic, stylistic and rhetorical studies, the four studies also display the meaning of the background, details, intentions, presuppositions, and sentence building that supports the perspective of each news.

This study aims to describe the discourse analysis contained in the second round of the Surakarta pilwakot debate in 2020. In a critical discourse analysis study, the debate can be analyzed using William L. Benoit's functional theory which includes acclaims or claims, attacks or attacks, and defends or defends. This research uses descriptive qualitative research by describing the functional theory contained in the second round of the Surakarta Pilwakot debate. The documentation technique was used to collect data by watching, viewing, and writing the most important points in the second round of the Solo Pilwakot debate live video broadcast. Content analysis techniques were used in this study to obtain the forms of acclaim, attacks, and defends used by candidate pairs in arguing. Based on the results of the analysis, the two pairs of candidates equally made acclaims or claims, recognition as one way to convince their supporters. As for attacks or attacks, candidate pair number 1 is superior in attacking candidate pair number 2. On defends, candidate pair number 1 (Gibran-Teguh) defends based on empirical data or facts as an aspect of knowledge which supports his argument. Another case with candidate pair number 2 (Bagyo-Supardjo) who is not strong enough in doing a defense or defends through answers or responses that are out of the context in question

This paper uses discourse analysis techniques to analyze communication breakdown in the conversation of a youth with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). In demonstrating how discourse analysis can reveal unexpected and ordinarily unperceived meanings in unorthodox forms of expression in ways that are clinically relevant, this text analysis uncovers and examines not only ambiguities and conversational breakdown, but also unexpected coherence, in a discourse that appears to be incomprehensible. Beginning with a brief account of ASD, the paper goes on to present the linguistic framework for analysis, phasal analysis (Asp and de Villiers 2010; Gregory 1985a; Malcolm 2010), a contextually based model for the description of English discourse. Specifically, the approach is used for an analysis of prosodic, grammatical and discourse features. Analysis reveals meaningful linguistic patterning that indicates conversational participation, engagement and coherence not previously supposed, with important social and clinical implications.

This research project explores the effects of altering the structure of discussion board formats to increase students’ engagement and participation. This paper will present the findings of a two-university, two-class research project in which asynchronous discussion board entries were analyzed for substance. By using oral discourse analysis techniques, the postings of two distinct structures of discussion board entries were analyzed. A baseline of typical student interactions was established by using an Open-ended discussion board assignment. Then the requirements were changed and an Experimental discussion board format was introduced on which students were placed into smaller groups and expected to enact a 3R pattern of Respond, React, and Reply. The ways in which students make their thinking visible were coded and tabulated. Findings suggest that a Connected Stance, identified by a high level of participation coupled with a high level of engagement, was an optimal online discourse pattern.

The investigation is conducted by collecting the posts published in the official fanpages of the two candidates (N=3,907) between 6 April and 26 October. Content analysis’ and discourse analysis’ techniques are taken into consideration in order to check the posts that present information with the potential to negatively affect the image of the rivals. The posts are then categorized based on frequency, author, target and focus of the attacks. The results indicate an increase in criticism during the dispute; the alternation between Dilma and Aécio as the biggest sponsors; the reciprocity of one another in the condition of main targets; and the preference of both by political attacks.
