This study aims to assess the social intelligence of prospective teachers in relation to gender, stream, and emotional intelligence. Initial sample of the study consisted of 400 prospective teachers on which Rogan Emotional Intelligence Test (REIT) developed and standardized by Zainuddin (2005) and Social Intelligence Scale developed and standardized by Chadha and Ganeshan (2009) were administered. The sampled teachers were categorized into two extreme groups on the basis of emotional intelligence scores. Finally, the sample consisted of 136 prospective teachers i.e. 68 of each gender as well as 68 of each stream of teacher education. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was applied for data analysis. Significant differences were found in their social intelligence on the basis of their emotional intelligence. However, no significant differences were observed in the social intelligence of prospective teachers on the basis of their gender and stream.

In the present study, emotional intelligence and academic listening skill levels of pre-service teachers and the correlations between these variables were determined. Furthermore, the emotional intelligence levels and academic listening competencies of pre-service teachers were also investigated based on the variables of gender, department, and the preference of the department of study. The study group included 361 freshmen pre-service teachers attending the Faculty of Education and the study was conducted with survey method, a quantitative research method. The study data were collected with the “Academic Listening Skill Competency Scale” and “Rotterdam Emotional Intelligence Scale”. In the study, the regression analysis was conducted to determine the causality between emotional intelligence scores and academic listening skill scores revealed significant findings. The study findings demonstrated that “Total Emotional Intelligence” scores of the students reflected above average emotional intelligence levels. It was determined that the academic listening skill competency scores of the pre-service teachers were above average in both scale sub-dimensions and the total scale score. The results of regression analysis showed that the causality between Total Emotional Intelligence and Total Academic Listening Skills was significant.

<p class="apa">The current study aims to investigate the relation between education and academic environment on emotional intelligence of accounting students in state and non-state universities in Iran.</p><p class="apa">In order to collecting data Bar-on emotional intelligence test and SCL 90 questionnaire administrated among 476 students in different subjects including accounting in both Bachelor and Master degrees in 2014. Pearson correlation coefficient, variance analysis test and covariance analysis employed for analyzing data.</p><p class="apa">The results of the study indicate that there is not a significant difference between changes of emotional intelligence scores in accounting students with non-accounting ones and also there is no meaningful difference between students of state and non-state universities in Iran.</p><p class="apa">The current study focuses on education and academic environment on emotional intelligence of accounting students which is the first study is conducted in Iran.</p>

Goal. In the research, it was tried to determine the effect of the trait-based emotional intelligence scores on self-esteem evaluations, and it was attempted to determine how this effect evolved according to the gender factor. Method. In the study 175 students were partisipte and 171 questionnary were analyzed. To measure emotional intelligence, NHS Emotional Intelligence Scale was used and The Rosenberg Self-Esteem scale was used to measure self-esteem. Correlations, regression analysis, t-test and ANCOVA methods were used to determine the relationship and / or effect between two conceptual structures. Findings. As a result of the research, it was understood that emotional intelligence had no effect on the self-esteem.  Because the relations of concepts were not statistically significant (R2 = 0.00). Effect also did not occur at the female and male levels of the variable gender factor. Results. The argument that emotional intelligence, which is the basic hypothesis of the research, is effective on self-esteem scores has not been proved statistically. In the hierarchical regression analysis, which is based on the level of the gender factor, there was no relationship or effect.

Šiame straipsnyje analizuojamos prognostinės tėvų auklėjimo stiliaus ir paauglių emocinio intelekto galimybės numatyti savivertę ir saviveiksmingumą paauglystėje atskirai vaikinams ir merginoms. Analizei naudoti duomenys iš tęstinio Klaipėdos apskrities mokyklose atliekamo vyresniųjų klasių mokinių tyrimo. Tiriamųjų imtį sudarė 1028 mokiniai, kurių amžius 16–18 metų (M = 16,29; SD = 0,93), iš jų 624 merginos ir 404 vaikinai. Šiame straipsnyje naudojama 2008–2009 m. surinkta informacija apie paauglių savivertę (RSE: Rosenberg Self–Esteem scale, Rosenberg, 1965), tėvų auklėjimo stilių (EMBU: Egna Minnen Beträffande Uppfostran, Arrindell et al., 1994), paauglių emocinį intelektą (ESCQ-45: Emotional Skills and Competence Questionnaire, Takšić et al., 2009) ir saviveiksmingumą (GSE: Generalized Self-Efficacy Scale, Schwarzer and Jerusalem, 1995). Tyrimo rezultatai parodė, kad merginos turi aukštesnį bendrą emocinį intelektą (ir didesnius visus emocinio intelekto rodiklių įverčius) nei vaikinai; merginų ir vaikinų saviveiksmingumas nesiskiria, tačiau vaikinai pasižymi didesne saviverte nei merginos. Abu tėvai emocinę šilumą, kaip auklėjimo stilių, dažniau naudoja, kai šeimoje auga duktė, o tėvas (bet ne motina) dažniau naudoja atstūmimą, kai šeimoje auga sūnus. Labiausiai su emocinio intelekto rodikliais yra susijusi tėvų emocinė šiluma, tačiau svarbūs ir kiti tėvų auklėjimo stiliai, kurių sąsajos su paauglių emociniu intelektu priklauso ir nuo tėvų, ir nuo vaiko lyties. SummaryPrevious studies have found that parenting styles predict childrens’ emotional intelligence, i.e., their ability to perceive, express and manage their emotions. Parenting styles were also found to predict the self-efficacy and self-esteem of adolescents. Despite a high interest in the effects of parenting on the emotional charateristics and adjustment indicators of adolescents, researchers have rarely analysed the effects of gender on these links. Previous data suggest that adolescent boys have a higher self-esteem as compared with girls, while findings on gender differences in emotional intelligence are mixed. Moreover, some effects of the interaction between parents’ and adolescents’ gender have been found significant when predicting the adjustment of adolescents. The present study explores the way in which parenting styles and adolescents’ emotional intelligence (perception and understanding of emotions, expression and labeling of emotions, and managing and regulating emotions) predict the self-esteem and self-efficacy of adolescent boys and girls. Data for this analysis were taken from a longitudinal study in high schools of the Klaipėda region. The sample consisted of 1028 adolescents (624 girls and 404 boys) aged 16 to 18 (M = 16.29, SD = 0.93). The participants filled in the Rosenberg’s Self-Esteem Scale (RSE, Rosenberg, 1965), parenting styles questionnaire (EMBU: Egna Minnen Beträffande Uppfostran, Arrindell et al., 1994), the Emotional Skills and Competence Questionnaire (ESCQ-45, Takšić et al, 2009), and the Generalized Self-efficacy Scale (GSE, Schwarzer and Jerusalem, 1995). The results revealed significant gender effects: girls scored higher on all subscales of emotional intelligence (perception and understanding, expression and labeling, and managing and regulating emotions), including the total emotional intelligence score. In line with the previous studies, self-efficacy did not differ by gender, but boys had a higher self-esteem as compared with girls. Both parents showed more emotional warmth to their daughters, while fathers (but not mothers) showed more rejection towards their sons. Of all parenting styles, parental emotional warmth had the strongest links with the emotional intelligence of adolescent girls and boys. The other links between parenting styles and adolescents’ emotional intelligence were gender-dependent in both parents and adolescents. Self-esteem and self-efficacy in adolescents were strongly predicted by their emotional intelligence scores, whereas parenting styles (father’s emotional warmth) were only important in predicting boys’ self-esteem.Key words: parenting styles, emotional intelligence, self-esteem, self-efficacy, adolescence.

The contribution of the physiologic and cognitive processes is important for increasing the quality of the education and occupational productivity. The new researches done indicate that exercising frequency and emotional intelligence level have precious contributions on the occupational performances of the individuals. The purpose of this research was determined as evaluating the sporting situation and emotional intelligence levels of adults in different occupational groups. 586 individuals participated in the research, who works in various professions in Bartın Province. The information on the participant group and the other variables of the research was analyzed via descriptive statistic techniques. For evaluating the data, SPSS 21.0 package software was used and for analyzing the data, descriptive statistics, independent t-test and one-way variance analysis (ANOVA) techniques were used. As a result of the data obtained, no significant difference was encountered in the emotional intelligence sub-dimensions and total scores depending on the sporting situation of the participants (p > 0.05). As a result of the analyses done for the gender variable, significant differences were obtained on behalf of the women and it was seen that emotional intelligence total scores of the female workers are higher compared with the male workers (p < 0.05). For the finding where the relations between age variable and emotional intelligence was evaluated, it was seen that there is a significant decrease in the emotional intelligence level with the increase in age (p < 0.05). This decrease was tried to be explained with occupational exhaustion. At the same time, the finding was arrived that the total emotional intelligence scores of the participants who work as teacher, compared with the other professions, is higher with a significant level compared with the other profession groups (p < 0.05). The findings of the research were discussed in the light of the literature and recommendations were offered for contributing to the new researches to be made.

Emotional intelligence scores of employees of a financial institution who displayed leadership potential (n = 31) were compared with scores of a groupwho displayed little leadership potential. Leadershipwas rated by ascertaining the presence of transformational behaviour. All rated employees completed an emotional intelligence scale. Results indicated that the factors of optimism and self-actualisationwere significantly higher for the leader group. The non-leader group indicated higher scores on the positive impression scale, indicating possible positive skewing of results for that group. Generally, the research data indicates a link between the fundamental postulates of transformational leadership theory and emotional intelligence. Opsomming Emosionele intelligensie-tellings van’n groep werknemers binne ’n finansiele instelling wie leierskapspotensiaal getoon het (n = 31) is vergelyk met ’n groepwat min leierskapspotensiaal getoon het. Leierskapspotensiaal is bepaal op grond van die teenwoordigheid van transformasionele gedrag. Alle werknemerswat gemeet is het ’n emosionele intelligensieskaal voltooi. Resultate toon dat optimisme en selfaktualisasie beduidend hoer was vir die leiergroep. Die nie-leiergroep het hoer tellings getoon op die positiewe indruk-skaal, wat ’nmoontlike positiewe skeefheid van daardie groep se resultate aandui. Die navorsingsdata toon oor die algemeen’n koppeling tussen die fundamentele beginsels van transformasionele leierskapsteorie en emosionele intelligensie.

BackgroundBurnout is being experienced by medical students, residents, and practicing physicians at significant rates. Higher levels of Hardiness and Emotional Intelligence may protect individuals against burnout symptoms. Previous studies have shown both Hardiness and Emotional IntelIigence protect against detrimental effects of stress and can be adapted through training; however, there is limited research on how training programs affect both simultaneously. Therefore, the objective of this study was to define the association of Hardiness and Emotional Intelligence and their potential improvement through hyper realistic immersion simulation training in military medical students.MethodsParticipants in this study consisted of 68 second year medical students representing five medical schools who were concurrently enrolled in the United States military scholarship program. During a six day hyper-realistic surgical simulation training course, students rotated through different roles of a medical team and responded to several mass-casualty scenarios. Hardiness and Emotional Intelligence were assessed using the Hardiness Resilience Gauge (HRG) and the Emotional Quotient Inventory (EQ-I 2.0) respectively, at two time points: on arrival (pre-event) and after completion of the course (post-event).ResultsHardiness and Emotional Intelligence scores and sub scores consistently improved from pre-event to post-event assessments. No difference in training benefit was observed between genders but differences were observed by age where age was more often associated with Emotional Intelligence. In addition, factor analysis indicated that the HRG and EQ-I 2.0 assessment tools measured predominately different traits although they share some commonalities in some components.ConclusionThis study indicates that Hardiness and Emotional Intelligence scores can be improved through immersion training in military medical students. Results from this study support the use of training course interventions and prompt the need for long term evaluation of improvement strategies on mitigating burnout symptoms.
