Abstract This paper discusses the Al Capone case and identifies legal institutions which contributed to the conviction of Al Capone for tax evasion in the USA and discusses similarities in Slovak law. The Slovak legal environment is assessed with the aim of identifying potential room for improvement. Under an assumption of identical factual circumstances, it is tested whether Al Capone would be convicted of tax evasion in the Slovak Republic and if not, what would be the main reasons. The paper concludes that due to some, probably unintentional, specifics of Slovak tax and criminal law, Al Capone could not be convicted of tax evasion by the Slovak courts. In our opinion, these specifics do not, however, constitute material elements of the basic structure of Slovak tax and criminal law and could be relatively easily corrected.

ABSTRACT: The paper deals with the analysis of traffic accidents involving pedestrians in the Slovak Republic. The development of traffic accidents involving pedestrians is processed through statistical data for the period 2011 - 2019. The paper defines the risk groups of road users, identified areas with the highest traffic accidents, evaluated the negative consequences of traffic accidents and identified their possible causes. A separate chapter is a case study consisting of an analysis of a vehicle - pedestrian accident. Based on the performed analysis of traffic accidents involving pedestrians, safety measures are set to minimize the number of traffic accidents involving pedestrians and their negative consequences. The study is one of the outputs of the APVV-17-0217 project "Staffing of police officers and application of the principle of proportionality in criminal and administrative law.

Local governments in the Slovak Republic are important in public administration and form an important part of the public sector, as they provide various public services. Until 1990, all public services were provided only by the state. The reform of public administration began in 1990 with the decentralization of competencies. Several competencies were transferred to local governments from the state, and thus municipalities began to provide public services that the state previously provided. Registry offices were the first to be acquired by local governments from the state. This study aimed to characterize the transfer of competencies and their financing from state administration to local government using the example of registry offices in the Slovak Republic. In the paper, we evaluated the financing of this competency from 2007 to 2018 at the level of individual regions of the Slovak Republic. The results of the analysis and testing of hypotheses indicated that a higher number of inhabitants in individual regions did not affect the number of actions at these offices, despite the fact that the main role of the registry office is to keep registry books, in which events, such as births, weddings, and deaths, are registered.

The chapter focuses on explaining the causal links between security and safety within the transport infrastructure. The chapter presents the current state of protection and resilience of the transport infrastructure in Europe. The introductory part will focus on comparative analysis of the latest information on transport infrastructure. In addition, an overview of current European transport infrastructure directives and legal acts will be included. This will be followed by an analysis of the results of scientific research projects at European level. As a case study, the state of security and safety in the transport infrastructure of the Slovak Republic will be presented. The following will be a generalized set of recommendations to improve security and safety in the transport infrastructure. The chapter will be supplemented by relevant sources of information on the issues addressed.

The fruit consumption in the Slovak Republic rates below the European average. There are several reasons causing this situation: the financial situation of the inhabitants, high prices of the temperate zone fruit in shops and the unhealthy eating habits of the consumers. The expenses on fruit have been decreasing within the consumer basket in our country. The consumption of fruit and the fruit products (in the value of fresh fruit) rose in 2006 in comparison with 2005 and achieved 54.0 kg per capita. The increase of fruit consumption was recorded thanks to the growth of the fruit containing products. Despite the rising tendency of the fruit consumption per capita, it is still much lower than the recommended dose. Based on the questionnaire survey, the objective of this paper is to identify and analyse the attitudes and behaviour of Slovak consumers, particularly from the Nitra region, to the temperate zone fruit consumption. The survey showed that health is the most important reason for the temperate zone fruit consumption. Apples and grapes are the most frequently consumed sorts. They comprise 50% of the total consumption of the temperate zone fruit. The consumption of the temperate zone fruit has stagnated recently according to the responses of half of the respondents, and even 66% of them would like to increase the temperate zone fruit consumption. Consequently, the dependence of the particular answers to the questions and the indications of a respondent (sex, age, education, locality) were studied by the use of the associative analysis.

A high-quality infrastructure and technical base is a vital factor in the development of intermodal transport in transport systems. Intermodal transport terminals are the most important component of a combined transport infrastructure, providing an essential connection between different modes of transport. This article deals with the issue of where to locate intermodal transport terminals within a transport network. In reality, this decision comes down to the potential of a particular location (e.g., an industrial park) and the critical role of private investors. These are mostly subjective factors, whereby little or no consideration is given to objective criteria. Within this context, it is extremely important that decisions are taken with regards to the development and construction of public networks, and economically neutral intermodal transport terminals by independent subjects are based on a non-discriminatory approach. In other words, it is essential that such terminals are built in places that comply with the stated priorities of the transport policy of a specific state. In this article, the author puts forward a method for determining the location of terminals that are based on the optimisation of several influential factors. The specified methodology is applied to a case study in Slovakia. The theoretical part of the article deals with the nature of the method to be applied. The discussion part involves a case study concerning the (potential) location of intermodal transport terminals in the Slovak Republic.
