3,5-disubstituted-1,2,4-tiadiazoles with substituted-styril and heterocycle-vinyl were obtained by extending the method which implies the use of 3,5-disubstituted-1,2,4-ditiazolium salts as precursors [1-4]. A comparative study of the reaction process in the case of perchlorates, diacide phosphates, tribromides and 3,5-distyrile-dithiazolium triiodides, taken as etalon, was perfomed. Good yields were obtained when using perchlorates, phosphates and triiodides. The reaction was made by heating the reaction mixture and by ultrasound exposure. The structure of the compounds was confirmed by chemical and physical analysis and the data obtained were identical to those of 3,5-disubstituted-1,2,4-tiadiazoles obtained by another methods [5,6]. The biological (antibacterial and anticancer) activity of the synthesized compounds was tested and the results indicated a medium activity.

This work makes a comparative study of two methods to determine deflection in steel beams: (a) Theoretical and (b) Finite element. For method (a) the solution of the differential equation associated with the modeling of the deflection of a beam is found, while for method (b) a simulation is made in Solidworks. Both methods are compared with experimental data in order to analyze which of the methods presents less uncertainty and show the usefulness of the theoretical part in the modeling of physical systems.

This paper proposes to use Routh-Hurwitz stability criterion for analysis and design of the operational amplifier stability; this can lead to explicit stability condition derivation for operational amplifier circuit parameters, and this is very effective to understand which parameter values should be increased or decreased for the operational amplifier stability. The proposed method has been verified by three amplifiers with theoretical analysis and SPICE simulations for three operational amplifier examples.

AbstractWhether companies and shareholders should be held liable for land contamination that occurred prior to the passage of the law imposing liability for such contamination is a complex issue. After a theoretical analysis of the legitimacy of retroactivity in land contamination law, our comparative study shows that most countries have adopted, or tacitly approve of, retroactive liability for land contamination. However, the liability schemes implemented in the countries investigated vary as to the types of obligation, the timing of conduct for which liability is imposed, and the standard of liability, among other factors. The retroactive imposition of liability in China's recently enacted Law on the Prevention and Control of Soil Pollution is examined, as well as the roadblocks that still remain, and further improvement based on the theoretical and comparative analysis are considered.

This chapter introduces and motivates the research topics. The centrality of indefinite pronouns and determiners for a number of theoretical questions concerning the grammar of nominal phrases is discussed, and it is argued that a diachronic analysis may help shed light on some of the categories involved. The comparative study of diachronies, which is approached by analyzing the historical processes that took place from Latin to the Romance languages, promises to disclose new perspectives on the determinants of variation. At the same time, the phenomena observed in the empirical domain of indefinites are strong indicators of the fact that change at the syntax-semantics interface also proceeds systematically and follows recurrent patterns, as has been shown for phonological and syntactic change. The chapter discusses which challenges we face in this respect, and what can be gained when the theoretical analysis of variation is combined with the investigation of the diachronic dimension.

In order to study the conduction performance of the old transmission lines, we carried out a comparative study by testing the heat dissipation of the old and the new overhead conductors (35 kV aluminium cable steel reinforced (ACSR) lines, LGJ70/10). The temperature variation of two distinct types of lines under the identical current flow was investigated in details theoretically and experimentally. Our extensive experiments show that the temperature rise of old lines is higher about 11% than those of new lines with the same current flow of 255 A. By combining the theoretical analysis and experimental observations, it is concluded that the heat radiated power of the old lines is higher about 46% than that of new lines, such high radiated heat power is the main factor affecting the temperature rise of old lines.

Theoretical analysis indicated that, a typical centrifugal chiller could lose over 8% to 10% of its cooling capacity after converting from R-11 into using R-123 refrigerant. In this study, an attempt to recover some of this capacity loss by slightly decreasing its operating speed was analyzed. A full-scale experiment was performed to change the gear train of a 300 RT centrifugal chillier, which validated that 3%∼6% capacity recovery could be expected. This is a break-through to promote the chiller conversion for wide engineering applications and is discussed in detail in this paper.
