Underground spaces in town centres present a big attraction for investors. However, they put special requirements to the internal environment. Those requirements can be fulfilled by means of daylighting. Examples of lighting of underground spaces are discussed. It is shown that the common systems of natural lighting are not always possible to use and cause big heat losses. Hollow light guide pipes allow avoid the shortcomings of common daylight systems. Method of calculation of daylight factors from hollow light guide pipes is shown. The results of calculation of daylight factors under the light guide pipes of different diameters in the different depths are presented.

Three elements mainly wind, water and sun seemed to determine in ancient ages the basic phenomena of life on Earth. Architectural history documented the importance of sun influence on urban and building construction already in layouts of Mesopotamian and Greek houses. Not only sun radiation but especially daylight played a significant role in the creation of indoor environment. Later, in the 20th century, a search of interaction between human life in buildings and natural conditions were studied considering well­being and energy conscious design recently using computer tools in complex research and more detail interdisciplinary solutions. At the same time the restricted daytime availability of natural light was supplemented by more efficient and continually cheaper artificial lighting of interiors. There are two main approaches to standardize the design and evaluation of indoor visual environment. The first is based on the determination of the minimum requirements respecting human health and visibility needs in all activities while the second emphasizes the behaviour and comfort of occupants in buildings considering year­around natural changes of physical quantities like light, temperature, noise and energy consumption. The new current standardization basis for daylight evaluation and window design criteria stimulate the study of methodology principles that historically were based on the overcast type of sky luminance pattern avoiding yearly availability of sky illuminance levels. New trends to base the daylight standardization on yearly or long­term availability of daylight are using the averages or median sky illuminance levels to characterise local climatological conditions. This paper offers the review and discussion about the principles of the natural light standardization with a short introduction to the history and current state, with a trial to focus on the possible development of lighting engineering and its standards in future.

The provision requirement of 10% openings of the total floor area stated in the Uniform Building By-Law 1984 Malaysia is essential for natural lighting and ventilation purposes. However, focusing on natural ventilation, the effectiveness of thermal performance in landed residential buildings has never been empirically measured and proven, as most of the research emphasized simulation modeling lacking sufficient empirical validation. Therefore, this paper drawing on field measurement investigates natural ventilation performance in terraced housing with an air-well system. The key concern as to what extent the current air-well system serving as a ventilator is effective to provide better thermal performance is to be addressed. By adopting an existing single-story air-welled terrace house, indoor environmental conditions and thermal performance were monitored and measured using HOBO U12 air temperature and humidity, the HOBO U12 anemometer, and the Delta Ohm HD32.3 Wet Bulb Globe Temperature meter for a six-month duration. The results show that the air temperature of the air well ranged from 27.48 °C to 30.92 °C, with a mean relative humidity of 72.67% to 79.25%. The mean air temperature for a test room (single-sided ventilation room) ranged from 28.04 °C to 30.92 °C, with a relative humidity of 70.16% to 76.00%. These empirical findings are of importance, offering novel policy insights and suggestions. Since the minimum provision of 10% openings has been revealed to be less effective to provide desirable thermal performance and comfort, mandatory compliance with and the necessity of the bylaw requirement should be revisited.

The urban fabric of the desert cities is based on the principle of reducing the impact of urban canyons on direct solar radiation. Here comes this research, which is based on a comparative study of the periods of direct solarisation and values of the solar energy of urban canyons via two urban fabrics that have different building densities, where the ratio between L/W is different. In order to obtain the real values of the solar energy (thermal, lighting), the test field was examined every two hours, each three consecutive days. The measurement stations are positioned by the three types of the relationship between L/W, (L≥2w, L=w, L≤0.5w). According to the results, we noticed and recorded the difference in the periods of direct solarization between the types of urban engineering canyons, reaching 6 hours a day, the difference in thermal values of air, reaching 4 °C, and the difference in periods of direct natural lighting, reaching 6 hours. It should be noted that the role of the relationship between L/W is to protect the urban canyons by reducing the impact of direct solar radiation on urban canyons, providing longer hours of shading, and reducing solar energy levels (thermal, lighting) at the urban canyons. This research is classified under the research axis (the studies of external spaces in the urban environment according to the bioclimatic approach and geographic approach). But this research aims to focus on the tracking and studying the distribution of the solar radiation - thermal radiation and lighting radiation - in different types of street canyons by comparing the study of the direct solarization periods of each type and the quantity of solar energy collected during the solarization periods.

Mental health is a basic part of human life. Because mental health affects directly to the way people think, feel, and behave. However, the emergence of mental health is not taken seriously. Griya Jiva is a mental health facility aims to provide a place for the community who needs professional help. Griya Jiva started from increasing mental health in the world, included Indonesia. The cause is the spread of pandemic Covid-19. It is constraining lots of company to close/ stop operating until dismissal. This facility also provides various activity, such as personal consultation, behavioral meditation, gardening therapy, and group support. Moreover, there are supporting programs such as workshop and food bank. This programs expected to help community who needs. This project using Descriptive and Precedent method, by following justified elements or rule of an example. Griya Jiva ini bermula dari meningkatnya gangguan kesehatan mental di seluruh dunia, termasuk Indonesia. Salah satu penyebabnya adalah merebaknya pandemi Covid-19. Hal ini memaksa banyak perusahaan untuk tutup sehingga terjadi PHK massal. Fasilitas ini menyediakan berbagai kegiatan, yaitu Personal Consultation, Behavioral Meditation, Gardening Therapy dan Group Support. Selain itu terdapat program pendukung lainnya seperti workshop dan food bank. Program-program ini diharapkan dapat membantu masyarakat yang membutuhkan. Proyek ini menggunakan metode Deskriptif dan metode Preseden, yaitu dengan mengikuti unsur-unsur atau aturan yang dibenarkan dari sebuah contoh. Unsur yang dipilih tersebut adalah Pencahayaan Alami, dimana pencahayaan alami dapat memberikan pengaruh besar terhadap proses pemulihan pasien, karena pencahayaan alami dapat mempengaruhi suasana hati seseorang.

This paper is based on the contest of renovation of Qingdao Hiser Hospital. It first analyzes the current problems existing in Qingdao Hiser Hospital, then, pinpointing to the problems, applies the concept of priority of passive technology to the design of renovation scheme, and finally, adopts passive technology to do the renovation design, to resolve problems like noises, natural lighting and natural ventilation, etc.

This paper describes data and algorithms to estimate typical average interior illuminance from daylighting using a hybrid of Hay, Davies, Klucher, Reindl (HDKR) method for calculating total solar radiation on a tilted surface and the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) Lumen Method for estimating interior illuminance from daylighting. This hybrid algorithm, in conjunction with typical meteorological data, directly accounts for shading and typical local cloud cover effects on an hour-by-hour basis, which is difficult to do using the IES sky-cover or sky-ratio methods. Several experiments show reasonable agreement between measured and calculated results. Case study examples demonstrate of use of the method, when incorporated into software, to quickly analyze daylighting potential in industrial facilities, and the use of this information to develop specific recommendations for cost-effectively reducing lighting energy use in industrial facilities by improving the utilization of natural lighting.
