Purpose The purpose of this study is to bring down collective information about various issues encountered in modelling of rotor systems. Design/methodology/approach The most important and basic part of “rotor dynamics” is the study related to its different modelling techniques which further involves the analysis of shaft for understanding the system potential, competence and reliability. The issues addressed in this study are classified mainly into two parts: the initial part gives out a vast overview of significant problems as well as different techniques applied to encounter modelling of rotor systems, while the latter part of the study describes the post-processing problem that occurs while performing the dynamic analysis. Findings The review incorporates the most important research works that have already placed a benchmark right from the beginning as well as the recent works that are still being carried out to further produce better outcomes. The review concludes with the modal analysis of rotor shaft to show the importance of mathematical model through its dynamic behaviour. Originality/value A critical literature review on the modelling techniques of rotor shaft systems is provided from earliest to latest along with its real-time application in different research and industrial fields.

Image binarization is one of the fundamental methods in image processing and it is mainly used as a preprocessing for other methods in image processing. We present an image binarization method with the primary purpose to find markers such as those used in mobile 3D scanning systems. Handling a mobile 3D scanning system often includes bad conditions such as light reflection and non-uniform illumination. As the basic part of the scanning process, the proposed binarization method successfully overcomes the above problems and does it successfully. Due to the trend of increasing image size and real-time image processing we were able to achieve the required small algorithmic complexity. The paper outlines a comparison with several other methods with a focus on objects with markers including the calibration system plane of the 3D scanning system. Although it is obvious that no binarization algorithm is best for all types of images, we also give the results of the proposed method applied to historical documents.

Cardiovascular disease (CADs) is considered the primary leading cause of death. Irregular activity of heart, these disease can be detected and classified by Electrocardiogram (ECG), which is constructed from using electrodes placed on human skin to record the electrical activity of the heart. Because QRS complex represents the basic part of the ECG signal, these components should be recognized in order to analysis the other characteristics of the signal. Different methods and algorithms are proposed to analysis and processing the ECG signal. In this paper, a new QRS complex recognition method are proposed based on discrete cosine transform (DCT) with variable adaptive threshold method, which is used to determine threshold based on characteristic of each ECG signal to detect upper and lower levels of threshold to detect the peak of the signal. At first, the DCT is applied to the ECG signal to isolate it into different coefficients and eliminate or reduce the noises of the signal based on processing of high frequency components of DCT coefficients, which have less information, then the ECG is reconstructed by cropping the most important coefficients to be used in threshold determination. The basic idea is that the reconstructed signal have high differences between the components of the signal, and this facilitates the process of calculating the threshold value, which is used later to find peaks of ECG signal. The proposed method is tested and its performance are determined based on three different datasets, which are MITBIH Arrhythmia dataset, (LTSTDB) and (EDB) and the performance are evaluated using different metrics, which are Detection rate, accuracy, specificity and sensitivity. The experimental results show that the proposed method is performed or outperformed other works, therefore it can be used in peak detection applications.

Wounds are inherent to being alive and also a reminder of our fragility in the face of the hostilities of this planet. Annually, it is estimated that 4511 operations are performed per 100,000 population, or 1 surgical procedure every year for every 22 people. There is an art to treating wounds. The support by the doctor for wound healing favors the early recovery of this, in addition to minimizing the risk of infection and gives an aesthetically pleasing appearance, the care that is used today ranging from the cleaning of the wound, the approximation of the edges thanks to the sutures, etc. The following is a review of cutting-edge therapies in this area of medicine, such as biotechnologies, growth factors, gene therapy, and stem cells. Projections indicate an increasing decrease in morbidity and mortality associated with surgical wounds and their repair, as well as more favorable cosmetic outcomes for patients. The results showed that all the described techniques, although not perfect, are perfectible, and with the pertinent precautions can be maximized in favor of care. There is the possibility in the near future, to be a basic part of wound care, in terms of protocols of care, but also in the individualization of treatment.

Abstract: A structure can be build with different building elements. These building elements are basic part to resist the various loads and stress acting on it. The Beam is on the basic and essential elements under it to resist the bending behaviour on the structure. The project deals with four different types of 17 storied structures are modelled by altering beam members having rectangular shape i.e. G+16 storied building with 3.50 meters height for each story is modelled and analysed. The plan dimension of all four buildings is kept same i.e. 15.15 m x 46.35 m each. These buildings are designed in accordance with the Indian Code of Practice for the design of earthquake resistant buildings. Base of the building were fixed. The height of the buildings is considered constant throughout the structure. The buildings are modelled using ETABSvr.2018. The model has been studied in the earthquake zone IV and soil type II. Keywords: ETABSvr.2018, Beam, zone IV, Soil Type II, altering beam members

Creativity is often associated with great composers or performers of the past who have been ascribed some kind of "creative mystique." In order to attain better explanatory power, the psychological perspective usually begins by defining musical creativity not by divine inspiration but rather as a generative process, that is, the act of generating new musical material or new renderings of pre-existing music. Musical generativity is best understood as a component of basic musicianship, rather than part of a specialized skill set. Despite creativity being of great interest to scholars for a very long time, only recently has scientific study of creativity borne some useful insights for musicians. This chapter shows how broader principles of human creativity, revealed by research across many domains, are also specifically applicable to music. It also explains the specific processes of composing and improvising music, showing that both require musicians to investment time and energy to build these creative skills to an expert level. Finally, this chapter encourages nurturing the naturally creative behaviors of childhood and facilitating in young musicians a exploratory mindset as a basic part of their musicianship.

University education has become an integral and basic part of most people preparing for working life. However, placement of students into the appropriate university, college, or discipline is of paramount importance for university education to perform its role. In this study, various explainable machine learning approaches (Decision Tree [DT], Extra tree classifiers [ETC], Random forest [RF] classifiers, Gradient boosting classifiers [GBC], and Support Vector Machine [SVM]) were tested to predict students’ right undergraduate major (field of specialization) before admission at the undergraduate level based on the current job markets and experience. The DT classifier predicts the target class based on simple decision rules. ETC is an ensemble learning technique that builds prediction models by using unpruned decision trees. RF is also an ensemble technique that uses many individual DTs to solve complex problems. GBC classifiers and produce strong prediction models. SVM predicts the target class with a high margin, as compared to other classifiers. The imbalanced dataset includes secondary school marks, higher secondary school marks, experience, and salary to select specialization for students in undergraduate programs. The results showed that the performances of RF and GBC predict the student field of specialization (undergraduate major) before admission, as well as the fact that these measures are as good as DT and ETC. Statistical analysis (Spearman correlation) is also applied to evaluate the relationship between a student’s major and other input variables. The statistical results show that higher student marks in higher secondary (hsc_p), university degree (Degree_p), and entry test (etest_p) play an important role in the student’s area of specialization, and we can recommend study fields according to these features. Based on these results, RF and GBC can easily be integrated into intelligent recommender systems to suggest a good field of specialization to university students, according to the current job market. This study also demonstrates that marks in higher secondary and university and entry tests are useful criteria to suggest the right undergraduate major because these input features most accurately predict the student field of specialization.

Internet of Things (IoT) plays a very vital role in almost every field of technology. Its key elements of security are very much crucial elements which are to be maintained as it is used universally. Traditional security and privacy methods be likely to be inapplicable for IoT, mainly due to its distributed network topology and the supply-constraints of most of its devices. For creating these concepts, a new technology called blockchain can be used. Blockchain that reinforce the crypto- currency Bitcoin have been just now used to provide security and privacy in peer-to-peer networks with similar topologies to IoT. In this paper, we present basic part of IoT enabled with blockchain, their distinctive features of both the technologies, their futuristic solutions for different real-world issues, different communicational standards etc. Both the technologies have several distinctive characteristics in every field, but certain limits too exist which gives futuristic path for research.

Abstract Nowadays the volume of transmitted information exponentially grows and requires the development of new telecommunication systems. Dielectric nanoresonators can be considered as a basic part of such systems to control the emission of the nanoscale source. Here we numerically investigated resonant dielectric nanoresonators for emission enhancements of 2D nanomaterials. We show that the radiative Purcell factor can achieve the value of up to 21 and 12 for the magnetic quadrupole and dipole responses, respectively. Also, we compare the directivity patterns for magnetic dipole and quadrupole resonances. The results obtained in this work can be applied in the development of optical chips and interfaces.
