Induced polarization (IP) measurements [Formula: see text] were conducted on seventeen clay and peat marsh soils that were subsequently analyzed for heavy metal concentrations, moisture content, organic matter, porosity, specific surface area, and pore fluid conductivity. A Cole-Cole model was fit to each sample and model parameters analyzed in terms of physicochemical properties. We found a linear relation between the normalized chargeability [Formula: see text] and estimated surface area to pore volume [Formula: see text] when iron content (ranging from 0.25% to 1.63% by volume) is accounted for as a polarizable element of the soil. In fact, the dependence of [Formula: see text] on volumetric Fe concentration per unit volume of the bulk soil is described by a linear relationship with a correlation coefficient [Formula: see text] of 0.94. As Fe concentration is a critical biogeochemical parameter, our findings suggest that IP measurements may provide a hitherto unrecognized approach to probing soil geochemistry, iron cycling and anaerobic microbial activity. Furthermore, our results yield insights into physicochemical controls on IP in natural soils.

H2 receptor antagonist (H2RA) and proton pump inhibitor(PPI) are often used to treat gastric ulcers, in addition to the zinc-L-carcino-complex which is commonly adopted for such therapies. However, there have been no previous reports detailing the levels and distribution of zinc in human gastric mucosa. The aim of our current study is to clarify the relationship between Helicobacter pylori infection and trace elements such as zinc in gastric mucosa using particle induced X-ray emission (PIXE). Forty gastric ulcer patients were chosen as subjects of this study and divided into two groups. One is a new ulcer patients group(twenty nine cases). And the other, eleven of these patients had been prescribed zinc-L-carcino-complex (polapreZinc®), at a dose of 150mg/day for periods ranging from 16 to 20 weeks. The zinc levels in the gastric ulcer group were found to be significantly less than those of the control group and the concentrations of zinc in gastric mucosa were observed to increase following the administration of treatments containing this element.

This study aims to obtain an overview of trace elements concentrations in rocks, soils and plants from Puxiong lead-zinc mining area in Yunnan, China, and analyze the connection as well. Concentrations of Ba, Cd, Co, Cu, Mn, Pb, Zn, As, Sb, Hg, Sn, Ni and Sr among soils, rocks and three dominant plants in mining area, transition area and background were measured. Ratio parameter, bioconcentration factors (BF) and Pearson's correlation coefficients were used to analyze the relationship between these elements in different feature. The results indicate that rocks, soils and plants samples are all characterized by high concentrations of Pb, Zn and other associated elements in Puxiong lead-zinc mining area. Geochemistry of trace elements concentrations from rocks to soils, then to plants presents obvious characters of inheritance and variability. Whats more, three dominant plants are same in high concentration of Mn and low concentration of Cd, Hg, Co, but are huge different in bio-concentration factors.
