3D printing of drugs is an innovative and cost-effective technology, which is a major step towards personalized medicine. This technology can be used for the development of controlled-release drugs; fixed-dose combination drugs, as well as for the creation of orodispersible dosage forms. The global 3D drug market is still largely at the research stage, but its rapid growth is expected in the coming decade [1].

For years training was evaluated with measures such as numbers of participants, number of programs, length of programs, cost of programs and content of programs. These input focused measures have to be replaced by output focused measures. The output focused measures include learning profile and whole brain approach for the learner, competency requirements for the job, management’s role before, during and after training as well as the competency of the trainer and the effectiveness of the training environment. However, to ensure that the highest possible scores for these measures can be achieved, a multidisciplinary approach is of paramount importance. The purpose of this article is to demonstrate the IAFECT™ management tool designed to ensure effective technology training. IAFECT™ is a systematic approach that involves all stakeholders. It focuses on technical competence and a high Return-On-Investment.

ICT revolution has influenced almost every aspect of public life including education. Educational systems around the world are under increasing pressure to use the new Information and Communication Technology to teach students the knowledge and skills they need in the 21st century. Teacher education curricula in developing countries need a revamp to incorporate IT/ICT for effective technology infusion into classrooms. Teachers in India need to be prepared for imparting the new age education, and hence teacher education program in India should integrate ICT component in such a way that teachers are enabled to face the new demands in the profession. ICT Recommendations are made for effective technology infusion in developing countries in spite of prevalent handicaps. It implies a shift in the teachers’ role from being the sole source of knowledge and instruction to being a facilitator of students’ learning that is acquired from many sources.

The nutritional and physicochemical properties of sorghum proteins and starch make the use of this cereal for food production challenging. Sprouting is a cost-effective technology to improve the nutritional and functional profile of grains. Two drying treatments were used after sorghum sprouting to investigate whether the drying phase could improve the protein and starch functionalities. Results showed that the drying treatment at lower temperature/longer time (40 °C for 12 h) extended the enzymatic activity that started during sprouting compared to the one performed at higher temperature/shorter time (50 °C for 6 h). An increased protein hydrolysis and water- and oil-holding capacity were found in the flour obtained by the former treatment. Higher protein matrix hydrolysis caused high exposure of starch to enzymes, thus increasing its digestibility, while worsening the technological functionality. Overall, modulating drying conditions could represent a further way, in addition to sprouting, to improve sorghum flour’s nutritional profile.

AbstractTo combat the COVID-19 pandemic, many countries around the globe have adopted digital contact tracing apps. Various technologies exist to trace contacts that are potentially prone to different types of tracing errors. Here, we study the impact of different proximity detection ranges on the effectiveness and efficiency of digital contact tracing apps. Furthermore, we study a usage stop effect induced by a false positive quarantine. Our results reveal that policy makers should adjust digital contact tracing apps to the behavioral characteristics of a society. Based on this, the proximity detection range should at least cover the range of a disease spread, and be much wider in certain cases. The widely used Bluetooth Low Energy protocol may not necessarily be the most effective technology for contact tracing.

Abstract As a kind of fast and efficient mixing equipment, micromixer has been applied to chemical reaction detection. Its application can not only save experimental samples but also reduce the experimental time. In micromixers, Tesla structure is widely used due to its simple structure and special flow mechanism. In this paper, CFD and response surface method are used to analyze and verify the flow field of the configuration of adding diamond obstacles in the Tesla mixer. The results show that the order of layout parameter weight from large to small is obstacle size > vertical offset > horizontal offset. And the Desirability was 0.806, the optimal diamond obstacle size is 46.35 μm and the optimal lateral offset is 18.78 μm. In addition, a constant value OF 20 μm is predicted as the optimal vertical offset of the micromixer. Compared with the Tesla-type micromixer without obstacles, the diamond-shaped barrier Tesla-type micromixer designed in this paper has higher mixing rate and lower pressure drop under the same conditions, which can be applied to chemical reactors, and can also help to improve the accuracy of chemical reaction. It can be demonstrated that the presented optimal design method of obstacles layout in Tesla mixer is a simple and effective technology to improve the liquid mixing in microfluidic devices, and it has a broad application prospect in chemical engineering.

AbstractIn recent years, considerable attention has been paid in time–frequency analysis (TFA) methods, which is an effective technology in processing the vibration signal of rotating machinery. However, TFA techniques are not sufficient to handle signals having a strong non-stationary characteristic. To overcome this drawback, taking short-time Fourier transform as a link, a TFA methods that using the generalized Warblet transform (GWT) in combination with the second order synchroextracting transform (SSET) is proposed in this study. Firstly, based on the GWT and SSET theories, this paper proposes a method combining the two TFA methods to improve the TFA concentration, named GWT–SSET. Secondly, the method is verified numerically with single-component and multi-component signals, respectively. Quantized indicators, Rényi entropy and mean relative error (MRE) are used to analyze the concentration of TFA and accuracy of instantly frequency (IF) estimation, respectively. Finally, the proposed method is applied to analyze nonstationary signals in variable speed. The numerical and experimental results illustrate the effectiveness of the GWT–SSET method.
