The paper deals with corpus analysis of negation in Chinese, namely the negatives bù 不 and méi/ méiyǒu没/没有. The adverbs BU and MEI are two of the most frequent negatives in Chinese. The aim of this study is to present statistical data together with linguistics analysis. The results provide empirical evidence of discrepancy between “authentic” language data versus linguistic prescription with practical implications for second-language acquisition. The findings inter alia suggest a new approach to verb categorisation.

Translation into English has recently been completed for excerpts on ear and craniofacial anthropometry from an innovative, unpublished Bulgarian-language doctoral thesis written in 1986 by a plastic surgeon, M. M. Madzharov, MD-PhD; MD-SC. Most remarkable among the many benefits of the translation was revelation of heretofore unavailable text descriptions for 49 dimensions. Of these, 43 explain the titles and abbreviations with summary statistical data on ear measurements for young adults that were published in 1989 in the English language. Especially valuable among these data were four new and unique, long-axial ear lengths, all measured from a common ear landmark. These could locate “station planes” for cross-section views of human ears, similar to those for 3-D coordinate systems in aircraft and spacecraft fuselage engineering. Examples explaining the concepts and values of such a new approach to ear anthropometry are herein introduced, described and illustrated, together with previously recommended improvements in ear anthropometry notation and illustration, a virtual Ear Primary View Plane, a section plane through the ear long axis, newly introduced “semi-width” measurements extending perpendicular to the aforementioned section plane, new concepts of “view depths,” which are measured perpendicularly from the Ear Primary View Plane toward ear surfaces and a previously described three-axis aircraft motion analogy for defining static ear orientation. These innovative approaches are advocated for adoption by future researchers, designers of related hardware, modelers and standards developers.

The possibilities of using methods of a reliability theory are considered from the point of view of solving three problem groups. At first, collecting representative statistical data about loadings, design schemes, physical-mechanical characteristics of materials, geometrical parameters of structures, etc. Secondly, it is necessary to investigate reliability of the applied deterministic calculation and to evaluate statistically possible inaccuracies in calculations. At last, rated probabilities of the failure of structures. Use of reliability theory methods can be extended. It is necessary to accumulate statistical data about changes in time of strength and deformation properties of structural materials for reinforced concrete structures, variability of concrete strength in structures. It is necessary to accumulate statistics about actions and to solve the problem of values of factors. It has been marked that the studies of reliability of the design methods are realized for rather simple members subjected to bending and compression without consideration of materials properties in time. The expediency of experimental research on reliability of structures is discussed. Taking into account our experience of influence on reliability of frames of one-storey industrial buildings of the precision of geometrical parameters of mounting, it is expedient study reliability separately from design, mounting and maintenance stages. The new approach to a reliability estimation on the basis of ensuring functional reliablity of buildings is discussed. Thus the probability of failure should be equal to the magnitude of probability.

The article deals with the features of operation of professional liability insurance fund in the tourism services industry. The authors review the foreign countries’ practice and the Russian practice on travel insurance for tourists. Particular attention is paid to insurance activities of famous foreign assistance companies. The references to overseas experience for national insurance companies are made. Statistical data concerning the tourists travelling through Europe and their requests of insurance products. The authors point out that tourists’ low-level awareness characterizes the domestic travel insurance in Russia. The most significant provisions of amendments of the Law on the framework of tourism containing the new approach to respect for the tourists’ rights in overseas trip insurance are examined.

The article considers the problem of forecasting nonlinear nonstationary processes, presented in the form of time series, which can describe the dynamics of processes in both technical and economic systems. The general technique of analysis of such data and construction of corresponding mathematical models based on autoregressive models and recurrent neural networks is described in detail. The technique is applied on practical examples while performing the comparative analysis of models of forecasting of quantity of channels of service of cellular subscribers for a given station and revealing advantages and disadvantages of each method. The need to improve the existing methodology and develop a new approach is formulated.

We argue that corpus linguistics should be used as a tool for teaching students a second foreign language. The researchers focus on the study of English loanwords in French and Italian. We propose a new approach to teaching a second foreign language to students who are fluent in English as a first foreign language. We emphasize the importance of concordance in linguistics and teaching a second foreign language. We analyze the works of the methodologists who suggest using corpus technologies in the language classroom to develop students’ lexical skills. We touch upon the characteristics of corpus technologies, define the term “loanwords” and refer to the concept of “English borrowings”. The researchers analyze the role of English loanwords in French and Italian, and identify the spheres where English borrowings are mainly used. Based on the language of the media, we study the models of assimilation of English loanwords in French and Italian. We focus on the most popular English loanwords used in France and Italy, provide statistical data on their use and analyze their grammatical and semantic assimilation. We analyze the most popular loanwords from the English language; study their origin, language context and the way they were modified according to the patterns of the receiving languages. It is advisable to implement the proposed approach in teaching the vocabulary of a second foreign language and to use other tools of corpus linguistics as teaching methods.

During the recent years the issues of taxation on the family agricultural farms has been neglected frequently. Currently, with the discussions pending in Poland on the planned changes in that area, the issues of taxation imposed on agricultural farming requires a new approach. The main aim of this paper is to analyze the actual tax burden on farms in Poland and to investigate the impact of agricultural tax on the formation of revenue of local government. However, an important is to consult opinions of the farmers about the individual tax burden farming structures as well as the entire system of taxation. It is important also to propose changes in the tax applied to the Polish agriculture. Suggested by farmers alternatives in the taxation of individual farms can be used as an attempt to adjust the tax system in our country, to the solutions applied in EU member states. The paper presents the analysis of the taxation on family agricultural farms in Poland with particular focus on the agricultural tax. For the purpose of evaluating the actual burdens to the farms resulting from that title and the analysis of the volume of tax revenues to the budgets of selected communes in 2010, the method of secondary analysis of statistical data originating from the commune administration offices situated in the area of Mazowieckie voivodship was applied. It was analyzed the budgetary resolutions and reports on their implementation in the surveyed municipalities. The authors conducted the study using a questionnaire interview. The studies encompassing 200 family agricultural farms aimed at obtaining the opinions from farmers concerning the taxation system in Poland and possibilities of introducing changes proposed by the State.

The torn earlobe is a common problem, yet no objective analysis of causation or management is found in the literature. We present a series of 68 patients with statistical data on earlobe characteristics and cleft-related historical factors. We describe three new methods of repair: two for full clefts and one for partial clefting (ie, elongation of the piercing site without penetration of the inferior rim). We report follow-up from 4 to 10 years, with a 91% success rate for lobe appearance and a 1.2% recurrence of clefting. We offer guidelines for repair and repiercing based on lobe thickness and shape. We make recommendations for earring use based on lobe characteristics and historical development of the defect.
