This work represents thermal study of PEO-based polymer electrolyte films that were prepared by the solution cast technique. The melting temperature Tm, glass transition temperature Tg and degree of crystallinity χc were measured by diffraction scanning calorimetry (DSC). Thermogravimetric (TGA) was used to determine the initial and final degradation temperatures. The structural was also performed to characterize the vibrational wavelength and phase characteristic (crystalline/amorphous). While the morphological study was emphasized to examine the features appearance for pure polymer electrolyte system as well as after addition salt, plasticizer and filler. The zirconium oxide particles were measured after the milling process by using the transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and the particles obtained in the range of 9 – 54 nanometer size.

In the present research, [MG49-LiClO4]:[HNO3-THF/TiO2-SiO2] and [MG49-LiClO4]:[ClHNO2-THF/TiO2-SiO2] polymer electrolytes were first prepared through simple stepwise in situ techniques: sol-gel technique and solution-cast technique. [MG49-LiClO4]:[HNO3-THF/TiO2-SiO2] and [MG49-LiClO4]:[ClHNO2-THF/TiO2-SiO2] polymer electrolytes were then characterized through different experimental techniques. [MG49-LiClO4]:[HNO3-THF/TiO2-SiO2] and [MG49-LiClO4]:[ClHNO2-THF/TiO2-SiO2] polymer electrolytes had exhibited significant structural changes upon different salt concentrations. In the present investigation, [MG49-LiClO4]:[HNO3-THF/TiO2-SiO2] and [MG49-LiClO4]:[ClHNO2-THF/TiO2-SiO2] polymer electrolytes had attained maximum ionic conductivities (σ~10-7 S/cm at ambient temperature; 10−4 S/cm at 100°C) upon 25 wt.% salt insertion. [MG49-LiClO4]:[HNO3-THF/TiO2-SiO2] and [MG49-LiClO4]:[ClHNO2-THF/TiO2-SiO2] polymer electrolytes had exhibited distinct conduction mechanisms in similar experimental configuration. [MG49-LiClO4]:[HNO3-THF/TiO2-SiO2] and [MG49-LiClO4]:[ClHNO2-THF/TiO2-SiO2] polymer electrolytes had exhibited different stability characteristics over certain operational condition.

The polymer electrolytes were prepared using the solution cast technique. The polymer host consisted of chitosan and poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO). Ammonium nitrate (NH4NO3) was added to the blend solution to provide the charge carriers for ionic conduction. The sample containing 40 wt.% NH4NO3 exhibited a conductivity value of 5.83 × 10-4 S cm-1 at 373 K. Conductivity-temperature relationship for all samples obeyed Arrhenius rule and the activation energy of each samples were obtained. The sample containing 40 wt.% NH4NO3 showed the lowest activation energy at 0.29 eV. The conductivity variation for the prepared electrolyte system was explained using the Rice and Roth model. Sample with 40 wt. % NH4NO3 exhibited the highest number density and mobility of charge carriers with values of 1.39 × 1020 cm-3 and 4.60 × 10-6 cm2 V-1 s-1 respectively. The increase in conductivity was attributed to the increase in the number density and mobility of charge carriers.

The synthesize of solid polymer electrolyte (SPE) based on polyethylene oxide (PEO), NaClO4 and nano-SiO2 was carried out by solution cast technique. Nano-SiO2 was synthesized from sugarcane bagasse using sol-gel method. FTIR analysis was carried out to investigate the bonding between nano-SiO2 and PEO/NaClO4. The morphology of the SPE was characterized using SEM. XRD and DSC analysis showed that SPE crystallinity decreased as nano-SiO2 concentration was increased. Mechanical analyses were conducted to characterize the SPE tensile strength and elongation at break. EIS analysis was conducted to measure SPE ionic conductivity. The PEO/NaClO4 SPE with the addition of 5% nano-SiO2 from sugarcane bagasse at 60 °C produced SPE with the highest ionic conductivity, 1.18 × 10−6 S/cm. It was concluded that the addition of nano-SiO2 increased ionic conductivity and interface stability at the solid polymer electrolyte-PEO/NaClO4.

The nanocomposites based on sulfonated ethylene/1-octene copolymer (sEOC) and organophilic modified layered silicate were synthesized. The morphology of the ionomeric product was studied with the help of Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and microhardness measurements. It was shown that via the solution cast technique, the nanocomposite with uniformly distributed filer morphology can be conveniently prepared. The significant enhancement of the mechanical properties due to ionomerization was attested with the help of depth sensing microhardness measurements. It was found that the hardness of ionomer nanocomposite comprising 5 wt.-% layered silicate is approximately four fold of the neat elastomer. Miscibility of polymers decides the applicability of the resulting blends and immiscible polymer blends can be made compatible with suitable compatibilizer. Miscibility of blends of guar gum (GG) and methyl cellulose (MC) in common solvent water were studied by refractive index, density, ultrasonic velocity, and dilute solution viscometry methods at 30°C and 40°C. Based on these measurements, it is found that the polymer blend of GG/MC is immiscible. The effect of compatibilization with 0.02 wt% maghemite nanoparticle was studied in aqueous solution and found that 10/90 GG/MC blend is miscible in the presence of maghemite. Solution cast technique was used to prepare thin films of GG/MC blend – maghemite composite and characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) method.

This paper presents on ionic conductivity of MG30-PEMA blend solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs) prepared by solution cast technique. The analysis has shown that conductivity increases with the increasing salt composition. It is observed via x-ray diffraction analysis that the crystallinity of the sample decreased with the amount of salt composition as expected It is also observed that the dielectric value increases with increasing amount of LiCF3SO3 in the sample. Surface morphology revealed that ion aggregation occurred after optimum conductivity which has lowered the conductivity.

Solution cast technique has been used to prepare films of PVA and its blend with PVP. Moreover, cobalt chloride ( CoCl 2) has been doped in PVA and also PVA/PVP 90/10 as a host matrix for it. Also, UV/VIS optical analysis has been used to drop more light on the structural modification that occurs due to doping CoCl 2 with different levels in different polymeric matrixes. Indeed, UV–Vis spectra is a useful tool for studying the absorption spectra and estimating the values of absorption edge, Eg, and band tail, Eu, for all samples. The optical absorption measurements have been carried out in the wavelength region from 200 nm to 900 nm. In addition, the ligand field parameters and optical energy gaps have been calculated and discussed. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy have been used to characterize the studied samples which illustrates that PVA is strongly affected by mixed fillers.

Carboxyl methylcellulose (CMC) doped with oleic acid (OA) and plasticized with glycerol was able to be produced into solid biopolymer electrolytes using the solution cast technique. The CMC-OA-glycerol solid polymer electrolyte obtained the highest conductivity of 1.64 x 10-4 S cm-1 at room temperature for sample Gly 40 wt. %. Within the temperature range investigated, the conductivity– temperature relationship of the biopolymer electrolytes is characteristically Arrhenius behaviour, suggesting that the conductivity is thermally assisted. Fourier Transform Infrared studies was carried out to determine the dissociation of free protons (H+) from the carboxyl group (–COOH) of glycerol.

Methyl-grafted natural rubber (MG30) was treated with N-(1,3-dimethylbutyl)-N'-phenyl-p-phenylenediamine (6PPD) to enhance it anti-aging properties. The treated MG30 was used as polymer electrolyte by incorporating lithium trifluoromethane sulfonate (LiTF) through solution-cast technique. The impedance behavior of the sample has been carried out by analyzing the dielectric permittivity, dissipation factor, dielectric modulus and ionic conductivity as a function of temperature at different frequencies through impedance spectroscopy. Keywords: Methyl-grafted natural rubber, polymer electrolyte, N-(1,3-dimethylbutyl)-N'-phenyl-p-phenylenediamine, ionic conductivity, dielectric.
