Tiksheozero ultramafic-alkaline-carbonatite intrusive complex, like numerous carbonatite-bearing complexes of similar composition, is a part of large igneous province, related to the ascent of thermochemical mantle plume. Our geochemical and isotopic data evidence that ultramafites and alkaline rocks are joined by fractional crystallization, whereas carbonatitic magmas has independent origin. We suggest that origin of parental magmas of the Tiksheozero complex, as well as other ultramafic-alkaline-carbonatite complexes, was provided by two-stage melting of the mantle-plume head: 1) adiabatic melting of its inner part, which produced moderately-alkaline picrites, which fractional crystallization led to appearance of alkaline magmas, and 2) incongruent melting of the upper cooled margin of the plume head under the influence of CO2-rich fluids  that arrived from underlying zone of adiabatic melting gave rise to carbonatite magmas.

Abstract Objectives The study aimed to evaluate and compare various commercially available local anesthetic solutions. Materials and Methods A total of 150 commercially available local anesthetic cartridges of similar composition (2% lidocaine with epinephrine 1:100,000) were randomly collected and divided into 3 groups. The designations of groups were selected from their product names such that each group consisted of 60 cartridges. Group S (Septodont, France) Group M (Medicaine, Korea) and Group H (HD-Caine, Pakistan). The samples were divided into five sub-groups, each consisting of 10 cartridges from each group to investigate each parameter. Results The acquired data was statistically analyzed and compared (using SPSS version 12). Compositional analysis revealed a non-significant (P>0.05) difference when the three Groups were compared with standard lidocaine and epinephrine solutions. The mean pH values of samples from group S, M and H respectively fell within the range of pH values of commercially available solutions. Non-significant difference in EPT values of Group S and H was found when efficacy was compared (p = 0.3), however a significant difference (p < 0.01) was observed in contrast to Group M. Anti-bacterial activity was observed in all the group and a non-significant difference in cell viability values of Group S and M was found (p = 0.6), while the difference was significant in comparison to Group H. Conclusion Within the limitations of these investigations, it appears that the properties of different manufacturers fall within the recommended ranges as mentioned in literature and do not appear to be statistically different in the variables we have tested.

As an extension of work on pendent phenylethynyl-containing imide oligomers, three new diamines containing pendent phenylethynyl groups were prepared and characterized. These diamines were used to prepare pendent and pendent and terminal phenylethynyl imide oligomers via the amide acid route in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone at a calculated number average molecular weight of 5000 g mol−1. The pendent phenylethynyl groups were randomly distributed along the oligomer backbone and provided a means of controlling the distance between reactive sites. The imide oligomers were characterized and thermally cured, and the cured polymers evaluated as thin films and compared with materials of similar composition prepared from 3,5-diamino-4′-phenylethynylbenzophenone. This work was performed as part of a continuing research effort to develop structural resins for potential aeronautical applications.

In this paper, Ni-Co alloy films with different composition were obtained by means of electroplating method. The morphology, structure and magnetic properties of Ni-Co alloy films with different Cobalt content are evaluated. The effect of the crystal orientation on the morphology of Ni-Co deposits with different compositon was discussed. The results showed that Ni–Co alloy films with Cobalt content decrease is composed of pyramidal, spindly, mixed pyramidal and spindly, and cellular particles respectively. To the deposits with similar composition, change of morphology is related to the preferential orientation. With the increase of the Nickel content, the saturation magnetization (Ms) value of the Ni–Co alloy films increases and then decreases sharply. The coercivety (Hc) value of the Ni–Co alloy films decreases with the Nickel content increase.

In this paper, an original method of synthesis of coil–brush amphiphilic polystyrene-b-(polyglycidol-g-polyglycidol) (PS-b-(PGL-g-PGL)) block copolymers was developed. The hypothesis that their hydrophilicity and micellization can be controlled by polyglycidol blocks architecture was verified. The research enabled comparison of behavior in water of PS-b-PGL copolymers and block–brush copolymers PS-b-(PGL-g-PGL) with similar composition. The coil–brush copolymers were composed of PS-b-PGL linear core with average DPn of polystyrene 29 and 13 of polyglycidol blocks. The DPn of polyglycidol side blocks of coil–b–brush copolymers were 2, 7, and 11, respectively. The copolymers were characterized by 1H and 13C NMR, GPC, and FTIR methods. The hydrophilicity of films from the linear and coil–brush copolymers was determined by water contact angle measurements in static conditions. The behavior of coil–brush copolymers in water and their critical micellization concentration (CMC) were determined by UV-VIS using 1,6-diphenylhexa-1,3,5-trien (DPH) as marker and by DLS. The CMC values for brush copolymers were much higher than for linear species with similar PGL content. The results of the copolymer film wettability and the copolymer self-assembly studies were related to fraction of hydrophilic polyglycidol. The CMC for both types of polymers increased exponentially with increasing content of polyglycidol.

The crystal structure of [CoIII(L)(py)3][CoIICl3(py)] (H2L=salicylaldehyde semicarbazone)was determined by X-ray analysis based on two single crystal X-ray experiments performed at 120 K and 293 K, respectively. It was found that the pyridine ligand of the complex anion is disordered over two positions. The preferential position of this pyridine found at120Kwas explained in terms of the C-H...Cl intermolecular interaction between the tetrahedral [CoII(py)Cl3]- anions. The mer-octahedral geometry of the cation in the presented crystal structure was compared with previously published structures of similar composition, [CoIII(L1)(py)3]+[CoIICl3(py)]-?EtOH and [CoIII(LI)(py)3]+I3-(H2LI = salicylaldehyde S-methylisothiosemicarbazone). Although the tetrahedral [CoIICl3(py)]- anions possess the same charge, they mutually form different intermolecular interactions which can be realized either by C-H...Cl hydrogen bonds or by ?-? interactions between the pyridine rings.

High Ni abundances (420–500 ppm) and Mg* values (100 × Mg/(Mg + Fe2+) = 69–71) and the presence of mantle-derived xenoliths indicate that a subvolcanic nephelinite intrusion in northwestern British Columbia represents an unmodified primary magma. A separate, closely associated nephelinite intrusion shows evidence of minor olivine fractionation from a similar composition. Only three other occurrences of primary nephelinite have been described. This new occurrence suggests that these magmas may not be so rare as previously supposed. The trace-element abundances closely resemble those of primary nephelinites of similar La content from Freemans Cove, Canada. Such compositions are usually taken as evidence of intraplate rifting and doming. Therefore, these rocks are further evidence of late Tertiary or Quaternary rifting in the Stikine volcanic belt.

Abstract. The uptake and reaction of HOBr with frozen salt surfaces of variable NaCl / NaBr composition and temperature were investigated with a coated wall flow tube reactor coupled to a mass spectrometer for gas-phase analysis. HOBr is efficiently taken up onto the frozen surfaces at temperatures between 253 and 233 K where it reacts to form the di-halogens BrCl and Br2, which are subsequently released into the gas-phase. The uptake coefficient for HOBr reacting with a frozen, mixed salt surface of similar composition to sea-spray was <approx> 10-2. The relative concentration of BrCl and Br2 released to the gas-phase was found to be strongly dependent on the ratio of Cl- to Br - in the solution prior to freezing / drying. For a mixed salt surface of similar composition to sea-spray the major product at low conversion of surface reactants (i.e. Br - and Cl-) was Br2. Variation of the pH of the NaCl / NaBr solution used to prepare the frozen surfaces was found to have no significant influence on the results. The observations are explained in terms of initial formation of BrCl in a surface reaction of HOBr with Cl-, and conversion of BrCl to Br2 via reaction of surface Br -. Experiments on the uptake and reaction of BrCl with frozen NaCl / NaBr solutions served to confirm this hypothesis. The kinetics and products of the interactions of BrCl, Br2 and Cl2 with frozen salt surfaces were also investigated, and lower limits to the uptake coefficients of > 0.034, >0.025 and >0.028 respectively, were obtained. The uptake and reaction of HOBr on dry salt surfaces was also investigated and the results closely resemble those obtained for frozen surfaces. During the course of this study the gas diffusion coefficients of HOBr in He and H2O were also measured as (273 ± 1) Torr cm2 s-1 and (51 ± 1) Torr cm2 s-1, respectively, at 255 K. The implications of these results for modelling the chemistry of the Arctic boundary layer in springtime are discussed.
