Digital media literacy has become an intrinsic component in shaping high school students’ knowledge acquisition and critical thoughts. Over the last two decades, internet and computers have been the implemented tools to reach such goals and promote the students’ learning. This article looks for the impact of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) on Tunisian secondary school students by detecting their technical skills as well as their critical understanding. This quantitative study relies on a self-reporting approach and targets 150 Tunisian secondary students. It proves the necessary consideration of technological and social variables in helping sort out major digital handicaps related to secondary students and displays the interconnectedness between the different dimensions of digital media literacy. It also displays that Tunisian high school students cannot be referred to as digital-media literate people. The study contributes to the field of digital media literacy as it offers a solid empirical background to build on and indicates the necessity of integrating digital media literacy into the school-based initiatives.

The article analyses the methods and technologies of professional self-determination of students in the US education system. It has been found that the theory and practice of preparing students for professional self-determination has accumulated some positive experience in the development and use of activating career guidance methods and the formation and adaptation of career guidance programs with elements of activation of high school students. Also, the article presents the analysis of basic career guidance methods and technologies in the American high school. Keywords: professional self-determination, student youth, USA, methods, technologies, career choice, career guidance games and exercises, activating career guidance questionnaires.

Introduction: The occurrence of SCD in young adults is devastating to a community. It is estimated that over 1,000 of these deaths occur annually in the USA. Experience in Italy utilizing ECG screening has demonstrated an 89% reduction in SCD in young athletes. Reports in the literature suggest a high % of abnormal findings in athletes. Concern is therefore raised that ECG screening will lead to a large number of abnormal ECGs which may lead to widespread testing and anxiety for the students. Methods: We have developed an efficient screening process to perform ECG testing on high school students utilizing community volunteers. Six high schools in the Chicago suburban region cooperated in an ECG screening program. Screening was performed during regular school hours. A total of 9,125 students were tested. A total of 138 of ECGs were abnormal (2%). The ECG abnormalities detected are outlined in Fig. 1. Many of the ECG abnormalities are likely to represent clinically important findings for these young adults. Conclusion: ECG screening of high school student results in an acceptable % of abnormal findings. The types of abnormalities detected are often of clinical significance. Number of Abnormal ECGs

The fact that technologies have become a normal part of our lives has meant that bullying and other problems have shifted towards the virtual, hence complicating possible solutions. While before peer harassment occurred mainly at school, today Information and Communications Technology (ICT) means that children now have no place to “hide” from this problem. This and other features, like anonymity, have led many people to believe that this problem is more serious than traditional bullying. The purpose of this research was to determine the incidence of this phenomenon and its impact on students in compulsory secondary education in the Region of Murcia, specifically the prevalence of victimization and differences in relation to gender, age and academic year. One of the main results is that 49.3% of students have suffered from one or more cyberbullying behaviours. Greater victimization of females was observed in fourth of ESO and at higher ages (age ranges: 11-13; 14-15; 16-18). These results show the reality of secondary schools and the need to establish effective measures to solve this problem.

BackgroundIt is unclear if adolescent personality predicts mortality into late life, independent of adolescent socioeconomic status (SES).MethodsOver 26 000 members of Project Talent, a US population cohort of high school students, completed a survey including 10 personality scales and SES in 1960. Multi-source mortality follow-up obtained vital status data through an average 48-year period ending in 2009. Cox proportional hazard models examined the relative risk associated with personality traits, as well as confounding by both a measure of SES and by race/ethnicity.ResultsAdjusted for sex and grade, higher levels of vigour, calm, culture, maturity and social sensitivity in high school were associated with reduced mortality risk (HRs=0.92 to. 96), while higher levels of impulsivity were associated with greater mortality risk. Further adjustment for SES and school racial/ethnic composition mildly attenuated (eg, 12%), but did not eliminate these associations. Final HRs for a 1 SD change in personality traits were similar to that for a 1 SD change in SES.ConclusionsAdaptive personality traits in high school are associated with all-cause mortality in the USA as far into the future as the seventh decade, and to a degree similar to high school socioeconomic disadvantage.
