The present study is complied with the topical theme “name in the text” and devoted to the problems of how precedent names as the text-forming elements function in the poems and prose works of Marina Tsvetaeva within the framework of free indirect discourse. The authors study various methods and functions of personal names. The authors make conclusions concerning the frequency of precedent names and the specific character of intertextual elements in Tsvetaeva’s text, which, on the one hand, complicates the perception of the text, but on the other hand, promotes including both the poet and the reader into the world-wide cultural and spiritual environment. The ways of introducing the name and the persona, especially within free indirect discourse, specifies the further existence of the name / or its absence in the text.

There are millions of television cable channel cards in hotels, motels and homes around the world. Almost all of these lists are organized with TV channel numbers arranged in numerical order on the left and corresponding station call letters on the right. Office buildings have the building directories organized in a similar way. Such organization may be inefficient in terms of the time needed to find a specific channel. It may be more efficient to organize such lists with the station call letters arranged alphabetically at the left. To test this hypothesis participants were presented with lists of TV channels or personal names organized either in the traditional numerical order format or in an alphabetical format. The task was to find eight different TV channels or names on the two types of lists. Lists arranged alphabetically were searched significantly faster than those arranged in the traditional numerical sequence format.

The article deals with the peculiarities of the formation of Avar personal names in comparison with Russian and English names. The general and national-specific conditions for the formation of names in different linguistic cultures under the influence of historical and cultural phenomena are revealed. It is shown that despite the apparent similarity of modern anthroponymic systems, each nation has its own special traditions of naming people, reflecting the ethnic view of the world.

Marcel Proust’s works contain a lot of ideas consonant with the ideas that were actively discussed by philosophers of his time. Many philosophers focused on the issues of perception, memory, will, freedom, personal identity, etc., which constituted an important part of academic curriculum. Proust familiarized himself with the issues studying philosophy at the Lyceum (he was taught by Alphonse Darlu) and at the Sorbonne. In his novel In Search of Lost Time, Proust describes an existential experience of his character viewing these issues from a particular perspective, through the prism of the main character’s lifelong search of his calling. He gradually proceeds from philosophical psychology exploring the interaction of memories and impressions in a particular perception, to philosophy proper, to metaphysics aimed at understanding the truth, at going beyond time. The article traces some moments of this transition, shows that for Proust it is not just the work of memory that is important but the emphasis on those states of consciousness where the present and the past coincide, merge, and thereby we go beyond time, to eternity. The author analyzes some images and signs that accompanied the character of the novel on the way to the realization of his calling. Particular attention is paid to the Proustian interpretation of the role of art in changing and enriching the perception of the world, as well as the importance in human life of a habit in which positive and negative aspects are highlighted. Proust himself believed that a work of art is an optical instrument through which the readers begin to discern in themselves what they would otherwise fail to see. His own novel was such an instrument.

In Soi-même comme un autre, Ricoeur defines the personal identity as singular; so, it is the way in which every individual structures a sediment of experiences and  ways of being in the world common within a chronotop, and, a personalized way of reacting to circumstance challenges. Commonly, due to what is shared, the other is an alter ego. Identity is a holon which can not be atomized, as the puzzling cases or Musil’s L’Homme sans qualités intend to do. Ricoeur splits the identity in “mêmeté” and “ipséité”. The first one designates a center of acummulative experiences; the ipséité, the other from the soi-même, that is, the historical or changing quality of the mêmeté. With Bremond and Greimas theories, Ricoeur attributes to the literary narration the best examples of the dialectics between mêmeté and ipséité. Besides, with McIntyre, he considers literary narration as the best way to formulate ethic judgements from the described experiences.

This chapter argues that mental symptoms are the interruption of this dialogue through which we strive to build and maintain our personal identity and our position in the world. The person is engaged in trying to cope with, solve, and make sense of the basic disturbing experiences stemming from her clash with alterity. When a symptom emerges, the line of the pathogenic trajectory is the following: (1) a disproportion of alterity and the person’s resources for understanding, of emotions and rationality, of pathos and logos, of otherness and selfhood, bringing about a disturbing metamorphosis of self and world experience; (2) a miscarried auto-hermeneutics or self-interpretation of one’s abnormal experiences and of the transformations of the life-world that they bring about; (3) the fixation in a psychopathological structure in which the dialectics between the person and alterity gets lost.

This chapter discusses authentic decision-making as it relates to depression based on three parallel concepts found in philosophy, psychology, and the law. Since major depression is characterized (amongst other things) by ‘symptoms of sadness and diminished interest or pleasure’, ‘feelings of worthlessness/excessive/inappropriate guilt’ and a ‘cognitive triad of pessimism regarding the self, the world and the future’, the chapter explores whether an individual who has these symptoms can act on a judgment, thought, or belief in a way that lacks authenticity. It first explains, in philosophical terms, why autonomous decision-making presupposes a ‘personal identity’, before outlining a series of clinical observations suggesting that competence to make a decision requires an ‘appreciative ability’. It also considers whether the legal test for the capacity to make a decision has a component that is equivalent to ‘personal identity’ or an ‘appreciative ability’.

Вопрос изучения имени личного представляет очень большой интерес как для науки, так и для общества в целом. Вся совокупность имен личных (и шире – собственных) относится, как известно, к той части лексической системы языка, исследования которой представляют огромную ценность. В научном языкознании для изучения имени определена отдельная отрасль – ономастика. Деэтимологизация ономастических единиц является важнымне только для языкознания, но и для различных отраслей знания, в частности, для исторической науки в деле изучения древнейшей истории народов (реконструкции архаичных социальных систем, верований, религий, быта), мест их расселения в различные периоды. В настоящей статье нами рассмотрены имена людей – антропонимы в социально-историческом аспекте нового и новейшего времени, времени тотальной глобализации и демократизации. Исторически сложившаяся система наименования людей уходит в глубокую древность, но она не была консервативна и с течением времени, со сменой эпох, постепенно менялась. Когда-то закрытые национальные именные системы (именники), под влиянием все более усиливающихся социальных и культурных взаимодействий народов мира, медленно, но верно «сдавали свои позиции». Началось активное взаимозаимствование личных имен среди различных по этнической принадлежности групп. В современных национальных именных системах вполне мирно уживаются исконные и заимствованные (чужестранные) имена. В то же время между ними наблюдается некий антагонизм, вызванный к жизни понятием исконности/неисконности, который, в свою очередь, основан на значении слова (апеллятива), из которого произошло имя. Есть имена пришлые (заимствованные), которые на чужой почве принимающего языка получают облик, соответствующий нормам последнего. Транснациональными именами, по нашему мнению, следует считать ономастические единицы, не знающие этнических и государственных преград, легко преодолевающие географические барьеры. Именно они служат одним из действенных инструментов глобализации. The question of studying the personal name is of very great interest both for the researchers and for the society as a whole. The entire set of personal (and more broadly - proper) names refers to that part of the lexical system of any language, the research of which is of great value. In linguistics a separate branch is defined for the study of a name - onomastics. De-etymologization of onomastic units is important not only for linguistics, but also for various branches of knowledge, in particular, for historical science in the study of the ancient history of peoples (reconstruction of archaic social systems, beliefs, religions, everyday life), places of their settlement in different periods. In this article, we examined the names of persons - anthroponyms in the socio-historical aspect of the new and modern times, the time of total globalization and democratization. The historically established system of naming people goes back to antiquity, but it was not conservative and gradually changed over time, with the change of eras. Once closed national nominal systems (names), under the influence of ever-increasing social and cultural interactions of the peoples of the world, slowly but surely "gave up their positions." An active inter-borrowing of personal names began among groups of different ethnicity. In modern national naming systems, primordial and borrowed (foreign) names coexist quite peacefully. At the same time, there is a certain antagonism between them, brought to life by the concept of originality / non-originality, which, in turn, is based on the meaning of the word (appellative) from which the name originated. There are new names (borrowed), which, on the basis of the foreign soil of the receiving language, acquire an appearance that corresponds to the norms of the latter. In our opinion, transnational names should be considered onomastic units that do not know ethnic and state barriers, easily overcome geographic barriers. They serve as one of the most effective tools for globalization.

The article presents results of the empirical study aimed at investigation of I-representations of active social network users on the World Wide Web and those who use the Internet as the information resource only. Based on our conception of personal representations of “I-Other” interaction, we analyzed specific peculiarities of the communicative environment on the World Wide Web (discursiveness, orientation towards self-representation of a personality to Other, publicity, responsiveness, performativity), and identified that they contribute to development of various personal I-representations, which gradually become I-identifications and transform into a new model of personal identity. The applied aspect of the problem under study can be realized in psychological programs of communicative competence and personal development trainings, in solving practical problems concerning optimization of real interpersonal interactions and interrelations, in understanding of Other’s personality and developing harmonious personal identity.
