This paper was given at a meeting of the Society held on 12 January 2006 and it discusses the relationship between academic research and developer-funded archaeology in Britain today, highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of each. It considers the relationship between archaeological theory and practice and discusses the changing roles of academics, fieldworkers and managers. It argues that important issues need to be resolved, including the dissemination of information from recent archaeological fieldwork and the use of ‘grey literature’ in informing more ambitious interpretations of the past.

A series of studies over the past decade has shown that Canadians of British origin differ from Canadians of French origin with respect to the symptomatology, frequency, course and probably the treatability of mental disorder. French Canadian schizophrenics exhibit more concern with real or imaginary disturbances of social relationships, whereas British Canadian schizophrenics and alcoholics alike exhibit a greater disregard for such relationships and for the support that goes with them. French Canadian depressives have a greater tendency towards psychomotor retardation and somatic concerns, whereas British Canadian depressives show a greater concern with guilt feelings, obsessiveness, and greater signs of thought disorder. First hospitalizations are proportionately more frequent among British Canadians than among French Canadians in the white-collar strata, but the reverse is true in the blue-collar. The British Canadians have the higher incidence of organic disorders, but the French Canadians of the functional ones. When patients are sent to mental hospital the British Canadians tend to achieve earlier discharge than the French Canadians, but when treatment is given in an outpatient clinic there is some evidence that the French Canadians show the better recovery rate. Connections are suggested between these findings and more general differences between the two cultures and it is suggested that clinicians may be able to put such knowledge to practical use. In particular, it is suggested that attention to maintaining social ties is more important for the French Canadian patient than for the British Canadian who conversely requires more attention to be paid to his intra-psychic ties.

Abstract: Graves or tombs in the paradigm of belief are the final terminal of life after world life, even though the grave or tomb is considered as an inanimate object but it is one of the representations of socio-cultural phenomena in the Muslim community from the past until now, including people in Bangka Belitung. The tomb or tomb is a representation of the past and present patterns of thinking of the community in obtainingsolutions to various kinds of life problems both economic, social, political and cultural problems.Even more than that, he also as a representation of the attitude of religiosity of the community in interpreting the relationship between humans as beings with God as creator. The graves or tombs of the Kyai, Alim Ulama, the Habaibs and even the trustees have been interpreted as mediators between humans and God by means of a superstition. Tawassul is a way to utilize the mediator.Theoretically, Islam does emphasize the existence of mediators / wasilah between humans and God, but the cult of their tombs indicates that there has been a difference between theory and practice. Abstrak: Kuburan atau makam dalam paradigm keyakinan merupakan terminal akhir dari kehidupan setelah kehidupan dunia, meskipun kuburan atau makam itu dianggap sebagai benda mati namun ia salah satu representasi dari fenomena sosial budaya pada kalangan masyarakat muslim dari dulu hingga sekarang, termasuk masyarakat di Bangka Belitung. Kuburan atau makam tersebut merupakan representasi dari pola berpikir masyarakat yang lalu dan sekarang dalam memperoleh solusi dari macam ragam masalah kehidupan baik masalah perekonomian, sosial, politik dan budaya. Bahkan lebih dari itu, ia juga sebagai representasi sikap religiusitas masyarakat dalam memaknai hubungan antara manusia sebagai makhluk dengan Tuhan sebagai pencipta. Kuburan atau makam para Kyai, Alim Ulama, para Habaib bahkan para wali telah dimaknai sebagai mediator antara manusia dengan Tuhan dengan cara bertawassul. Tawassul adalah cara untuk memanfaatkan mediator itu. Secara teoritis, Islam memang menegaskan adanya mediator / wasilah antara manusia dengan Tuhan, tapi pengkultusan terhadap makam-makam mereka tersebut mengindikasikan bahwa telah terjadi perbedaan antara teori dan prakteknya.

The relevance of any material offered to the scientific and expert community depends on many factors. Objectively, the presence of this or that issue in the center of public attention has a positive effect on the actualization of this or that article. However, there is an obvious danger. Academic approaches that accidentally find themselves in resonance with global trends can fall victim to political conjuncture. Relevance in this case can fall victim to the political moment. Moreover, this or that topic, being in the center of public discussion, negatively affects the academic understanding of the problem. All this fully relates to the question of the relationship between the state and the church in modern Europe and Russia.A few words about global trends. Their essence boils down to the growing confrontation between supporters of new ideological approaches and traditionalists, among whom are many adherents.The relationship between religion and the state testifies to the fact that states and societies have not yet learned to draw an effective line between their interests and those of adherents. This fact presupposes careful state and public participation in the affairs of the church. However, acknowledging this circumstance is not enough. The state must clearly know what, where and how is happening in the church sphere of the life of society in cases where church affairs can affect public and state security.It is also known that almost all the leading churches, to a greater or lesser extent, provide official reporting to the state. However, working with this reporting, its scientific analysis is not always representative.Objective. The presented article is aimed at a partial solution of the problem of increasing the effectiveness of academic research of the church` activities. Moreover, it is made based on official church statistics.The author’s position is the following. States and societies have no right to let go of this vital sphere of life. The functions of the state, in this case, are at least controlling. The ineffective execution of its functions by the state can be revealed in many countries of the world. The situation in France is nothing more than a reference case of a problem that, to one degree or another, exists in most of the countries of the world, which are distinguished by ethnic and confessional heterogeneity.

In recent years the gap between archaeological theory and practice has been closing, but although there have been calls for ‘reflexivity’, there has been little critical examination of its meanings. Proposed reflexive methodologies still perpetuate many traditional hierarchies of power, and fail to consider the creative nature of excavation and post-excavation. Much archaeological work in Britain, Europe and North America also takes place within the commercial sphere, and post-processual ideas cannot advance archaeological practice unless they can be implemented in contract archaeology. This paper examines theoretical considerations of reflexivity, representation, subjectivity and sensual engagement to highlight their relevance to everyday archaeological practice, and their political potential to undermine existing hierarchies of power within commercial archaeology.

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent:0in">Learning a foreign language cannot be separated from literature and culture. One of the definitions of literature is a reflection of society; so through literature we can know the real image of society as well as the culture. Moreover, by knowing the foreign cultures of the countries from which we learn the language, we can not only read, but also understand the problems that appear in the texts studied. Similarly, French culture cannot be separated from Maghreb culture. The two cultures complement each other, later becoming the content of various literary, French literary and Francophone literary. The relationship between the two cultures is also part of the content of Virginie Despentes' novel <i>Apocalypse bébé</i>. Through this novel, we can see an image of the relationship between France and the Maghreb people in their social life. Thus, as a learner of French, we could know not only French culture through the textbooks published by French publishers, but also recognize the French culture associated with France both directly and indirectly. Therefore, the literary text entitled <i>Apocalypse bébé</i> can be an alternative source of learning French, not only in terms of language attached to vocabulary and grammar, but also to know French and Francophone culture so that students know the relationship for understanding and analyzing literary works.</p>

Le récit/the story entitled Lʼhomme invisible / The Invisible Man (1981) by Patrice Desbiens, a bilingual Franco-Ontarian writer and poet, encourages us to reflect on a bilingual original and to rethink the relationship between the centre and the periphery in the translational context. Bilingualism is an integral part of the book: Patrice Desbiens builds his identities on “two mother tongues” by juxtaposing the two versions of his text. A detailed analysis of the story in French and English shows important differences between them. What is more, only a simultaneous reading of the two versions makes it possible to fully understand the idea of the story and the complicated relations between the two cultures. The article is a reflection on the impossibility of translating an original built on the presence of two languages, an inherent and specific feature of Desbiens’ text.

The behavioural manifestations of Big Five traits were compared across cultures using the Act Frequency Approach. American (n = 176) and Filipino (n = 195) students completed a Big Five measure and act frequency ratings for behaviours performed during the past month. Acts for specific traits cohered to an equivalent degree across cultures. In both cultures, the structure of act composites resembled the Big Five and the strength of trait‐behaviour relationships was very similar. Many acts were multidimensional and analyses revealed cultural commonalities and differences in the relevance and prevalence of acts for the Big Five traits. The results were more consistent with trait than cultural psychology perspectives, because traits predicted behaviour equally well, on average, in the two cultures. A review of academic research studying the relationship between entrepreneurship and project management at the level of interpenetration of concepts, principles, methods, tools and practices has been made. The following is a description of the research methodology, which reflects different aspects of understanding the term “entrepreneurial project” and a quantitative analysis of the results of thematic coding. The results of the study have been presented. Conclusions have been formulated that include an interpretation of the findings and the maim points on how the term “entrepreneurial project” is currently understood and what trends in the development of the theory and practice of entrepreneurship and project management reflects the current understanding.

ABSTRACTDamar Kurung is a typical lantern of Gresik, made in the 16th century. In 2017 Damar Kurung was declared an intangible cultural heritage by the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture. Masmundari (1904-2005) was a female artist who painted Damar Kurung based on skills learned from her ancestors. Among Masmundari's many paintings, Nyonya Muluk is the most frequently painted. Nyonya Muluk is described as a big woman wearing a dress and wings. Many people say that Nyonya Muluk is a picture of Queen Wilhemina that Masmundari has seen directly. To uncover Nyonya Muluk's identity, it is necessary to explain the image and meaning of this traditional art, the author uses Bahasa Rupa method (Tabrani, 2012), which analyzes the contents of the wimba, cara wimba, tata ungkapan and how to read wimba. Then, analyzed using postcolonial theory, specifically using the concepts of hybridity and mimicry to find out the identity of Nyonya Muluk. Finally, this research is to produce (1) A description of the relationship between the two cultures (East and West/invaders and colonized) which is manifested in the figure of Nyonya Muluk. (2) Nyonya Muluk is a representation of Javanese women's hybridity that illustrates the hopes and dreams of Masmundari (as an East representative) to be similar to the West.Hibriditas Perempuan Jawa: Studi Poskolonial Figur Nyonya Muluk Di Lukisan Damar KurungABSTRAKDamar Kurung adalah lentera khas Gresik, dibuat pada abad ke-16. Di antara banyak lukisan Masmundari, Nyonya Muluk adalah yang paling sering dilukis. Nyonya Muluk digambarkan sebagai perempuan berukuran besar yang mengenakan gaun dan memiliki sepasang sayap. Banyak orang mengatakan bahwa Nyonya Muluk adalah gambaran Ratu Wilhemina yang langsung dilihat Masmundari. Untuk mengungkap identitas Nyonya Muluk, perlu menjelaskan gambar dan makna seni lukis tradisi ini, penulis menggunakan metode Bahasa Rupa (Tabrani, 2012), yang menganalisis isi wimba, cara wimba, tata cara dan cara membaca wimba. Kemudian, dianalisis menggunakan teori postkolonial, khususnya menggunakan konsep hibriditas dan mimikri untuk mengetahui identitas Nyonya Muluk. Akhirnya, penelitian menghasilkan (1) Deskripsi hubungan antara dua budaya (Timur dan Barat/penjajah dan terjajah) yang dimanifestasikan dalam sosok Nyonya Muluk. (2) Nyonya Muluk adalah representasi dari hibriditas perempuan Jawa yang menggambarkan harapan dan impian Masmundari (sebagai perwakilan Timur) untuk menjadi serupa dengan Barat.

College should serve local economy closer, enterprise structure upgrading also improves requirements for personnel, so a collision and integration of college campus culture and corporate culture is accelerating. This paper starts from the relationship explication between the two cultures and the significance explication of their melange, in view of the problem of integration of this two culture, the paper propose five countermeasures: put the essence of enterprise culture into the "3-outlooks" and "3-styles" education, capture the key of two culture integration, establish the main line of integration, integrate college practice education resources, and promote  undergraduate  innovative and entrepreneurial ability.
