Sohr Damb/Nal, the type site of the Nal complex, is located in Balochistan, Pakistan. After 1 season of excavation by H Hargreaves in 1924, which made the polychrome Nal pottery widely known, no further work took place until the Joint German-Pakistani Archaeological Mission to Kalat resumed excavations in 2001. So far, 4 seasons of excavations have been undertaken, which have revealed 4 periods of occupation, dated from about 3800 to 2000 BC. The well-stratified assemblages provide new insights into cultural processes and developments, and enhance the comparative frameworks through typological series and a comprehensive set of radiocarbon dates. This information is essential for assessing cross-cultural relations and the date of urbanization. In this paper, the 14C dates from Sohr Damb/Nal are presented and their cultural context is discussed. Period III has several links to sites in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran, such as Miri Qalat IIIb–c, Mehrgarh VI–VII/Nausharo I, Quetta III, Mundigak IV, and Shahr-e Sokhta II–III. Period IV represents a Kulli-Harappan occupation, which is dated to the second half of the 3rd millennium BC.

Before dialecticism became a topic of empirical inquiry in cultural psychology, scholars in related disciplines has discussed dialecticism as a model of human development, as an essential component of maturity and wisdom. This review chapter bridged these two perspectives, comparing conceptualizations of dialecticism in developmental and cultural psychology. After reviewing historical portrayals of dialecticism in various philosophical traditions, this chapter provides comparison of historical characterizations with the contemporary treatment of dialecticism in human development and cultural psychology. Both streams -- developmental and cross-cultural -- are proposed as essential for an integral understanding of the construct. Subsequently, the chapter discusses the emerging developmental models of dialecticism across the lifespan and reviews the accompanying empirical evidence, situating it in a cross-cultural context. It concludes with an outline of future directions of research on dialectical thought, with attention to psychological and socio-cultural processes engendering dialecticism across the lifespan.

In 1954, B K Thapar excavated the multicomponent site of Maski (Raichur District, Karnataka) to establish an archaeological sequence for the southern Deccan region of India. Thapar identified four major periods of occupation, now known as the Neolithic (3000–1200 BC), Iron Age (1200–300 BC), Early Historic (300 BC to AD 500), and the Medieval periods (AD 500–1600). Renewed research at the site by the Maski Archaeological Research Project (F.1/8/2009-EE) has investigated the development of social differences and inequalities in south Indian prehistory. This article reports the first ever radiocarbon assays from habitation and megalithic burial contexts in the vicinity of Maski. Accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) dates of charcoal sampled from exposed occupational strata on Maski's Durgada Gudda hill and subsequent Bayesian analyses indicate that the site was extensively occupied during the 14th century AD, corroborating interpretations of numismatic and inscriptional materials. Associated artifacts with these 14C samples have significant implications for recognizing late Medieval period ceramics and occupation in the region. AMS assays of four charcoal samples from exposed megalithic burials just south of the Durgada Gudda hill, similar to those recognized by Thapar, indicate that burial practices commonly attributed to the Iron Age predate the period, and thus are not precise chronological markers. However, the results also suggest that megalithic burial practices became more labor intensive during the Iron Age, creating a cultural context for the generation of new forms of social affiliations and distinctions through differential participation in the production of commemorative places.

This narrative aims to explore the meaning and lived experiences of marriage that a unique immigrant population—“foreign brides” in Taiwan—possesses. This convergence narrative illustrates the dynamics and complexity of mail-order marriage and women's perseverance in a cross-cultural context. The relationship between marriage, race, and migration is analyzed. This narrative is comprised of and intertwined by two story lines. One is the story of two “foreign brides” in Taiwan. The other is my story about my cross-cultural relationship. All the dialogues are generated by 25 interviews of “foreign brides” in Taiwan and my personal experience.

Dengan semakin banyaknya orang asingmengunakan bahasa Indonesia, semakin terbuka kesempatan bagi bahasa Indonesiauntuk menjadi bahasa internasional. Hal itu dapat dilakukan melalui strategi kebudayaan.Strategi kebudayaan yang dapat dilakukan dalam mengenalkan Indonesia dalampembelajaran BIPA adalah melalui pengenalan budaya lokal yang menjadi ujung tombakdari kebudayaan Indonesia. Kebudayaan lokal yang hidup dalam masyarakat setempatmemberi kesempatan bagi orang asing untuk melihat dan memahami kekayaan budayaIndonesia yang beragam. Tulisan ini bertujuan mengetahui pengetahuan dasar mahasiswaasing terhadap budaya Sunda dan bagaimana respon mereka dengan dijadikannya budayaSunda sebagai bagian dari pembelajaran BIPA. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitiandeskriptif dengan pemerolehan data melalui kuesioner dan referensi kepustakaan. Hasilpenelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengenalan aspak-aspek budaya lokal, dalam hal inibudaya Sunda, dalam pengajaran BIPA merupakan kebutuhan utama bagi orang asingagar dapat bertahan hidup dan beradaptasi dalam lingkungan sosial budaya tempatmereka hidup serta membangun kesalingpengertian dalam hubungan lintas budaya. Olehkarena itu, hal-hal yang penting bagi orang asing adalah budaya lokal yang dirasakanlangsung dalam kehidupan keseharian mereka di Indonesia.Kata kunci: budaya Sunda, pengajaran BIPA, respon, orang asing, lintas budayaAbstractThe BIPA program (Indonesian for Foreign Speakers) provides an opportunity forforeigners to learn Indonesian as a gateway to know Indonesia more comprehensively. With theincreasing number of foreigners using Indonesian language, the more open the opportunity forIndonesian language to become an international language. This can be done through a culturalstrategy. The cultural strategy that can be done in introducing Indonesia in BIPA learning isthrough the introduction of local culture that is the spearhead of Indonesian culture. Local culture hat lives in local communities provides opportunities for foreigners to see and understand Indonesia’s diverse cultural richness. This paper aims to find out the basic knowledge of foreign students towards Sundanese culture and how they respond to the use of Sundanese culture as part of BIPA learning. This research is a descriptive study by obtaining data through questionnaires and literature references. The results show that the introduction of aspects of local culture, in this case Sundanese culture, in the teaching of BIPA is a major need for foreigners to survive and adapt in the socio-cultural environment in which they live and build understanding in cross-cultural relations. Therefore, the things that are important for foreigners are the local culture that is directly affected in their daily lives in Indonesia.Keywords: Sundanese culture, BIPA teaching, response, foreigners, cross-cultural

Abstract Continuing professional development is important for improving and reforming teaching.Classroom observation of others’ teaching has been used for the professional development of eight lecturers from three Myanmar universities who visited the Department of Biological Sciences, National University of Singapore over a period of three weeks.To bridge the socio-cultural and educational background differences, Gagné’s ‘Nine events of instruction’ was used as a pedagogical framework to guide and evaluate the classroom observation and learning as it is well-established for instructional design and resonate well with educators.This study aimed to evaluate the participants’ abilities and their learning through classroom observation based on their perceptions of the ‘nine events of instruction’.The study found that most of the participants have positive views of their abilities in relation to the ‘nine events’, especially in practicing the early events of instruction. The classroom observation has benefitted them with respect to the ‘nine events’, particularly ‘Informing the Students of the Objective/Outcome’, ‘Stimulating Recall of the Prior Knowledge’ and ‘Presenting Information/Content/Stimulus’.Notably, ‘Assessing Performance’ was the most perceived ‘event of instruction’ that the participants wanted to improve on and that the participants perceived will benefit Myanmar lecturers the most.Qualitative feedbacks by the participants revealed lessons learned, their potential applicability and desires to reform and share.The study further demonstrated that the ‘nine events of instruction’ is a useful pedagogical framework for guiding and evaluating perception of abilities and learning in classroom instruction and observation for continuing professional development in a cross-cultural context.
