The Role of Projects in Astronomy Education

At first sight, there may appear to be a very wide range of project situations that are in use. Students may seem to be doing the equivalent of postgraduate work, or may seem to be working on contract basis, or may even seem to be doing rather long term laboratory exercises, or some mixture of all three. However, there are in essence two major types of project situations — the free-scope project and the set-piece project.The free-scope project attaches importance to the selection of project topics by the student. The student may be told to select a problem from the entire spectrum of problems offered by the science of astronomy, and to get on with it, or there may be guidelines to restrict the choice. Nevertheless, the choice of topic is the prerogative of the student, and it is believed that the effort of making that choice is important in the teaching/learning process. Because of the range of formats for free-scope projects, it is a convenient form to adapt to meet varying local circumstances.

Essence and necessity to make the teaching-learning process more innovative, scientific and students' centred have become main aim and objective of present day education system. A large number of methods are being used in teaching-learning process. The audio visual aids are being increasingly used since these involve both audio (verbal) as well as visual way of teaching. Several researches have been proved that the ability to recall is high with teaching using audio visual aids. Selection of appropriate media of teaching is one of the smart and important steps of teaching students of different levels and domains. Several media of audio visual aids are being practisized such as overhead projector (OHP), power point presentation (PPT), white or black board teaching and flip charts etc. These media have merits as well as demerits. There are key techniques to make them more effective. The audio visual aids help in consolidation of long term memories of learnt information. Logical use of different types of media simultaneously during teaching can be more beneficial for the learners in many ways.

In young rats fed a Mg(2+)-deficient diet for 3 wk, Mg2+ and K+ contents in soleus and extensor digitorum longus muscles were significantly reduced and closely correlated. In isolated soleus muscles, Mg2+ depletion induced an even more pronounced loss of K+, and Mg2+ and K+ contents were correlated over a wide range (r = 0.95, P < 0.001). Extracellular Mg2+ (0-1.2 mM) caused no change in total or ouabain-suppressible 86Rb influx. After long-term incubation in Ca(2+)-Mg(2+)-free buffer with EDTA and EGTA, cellular Mg2+ and K+ contents were reduced by 35 and 15%, respectively, without any reduction in ATP and total or ouabain-suppressible 86Rb influx. In Mg(2+)-depleted muscles 42K efflux was increased by up to 42%, and repletion with Mg2+ produced a graded decrease. We conclude that Mg2+ and K+ contents are closely correlated in muscles Mg2+ depleted in vivo or in vitro and that neither extracellular nor moderate intracellular Mg2+ depletion affects total or Na(+)-K+ pump-mediated K+ influx. The reduced K+ content may rather be related to increased K+ efflux from the muscles.

The use of varied learning models by history teachers will facilitate teachers and students in implementing and following the learning process. This study aims to determine the learning process and the use of learning models used by history teachers. This study uses a qualitative methodology with an observation and interview approach conducted at two high schools, Dian Didaktika High School and SMA Negeri 2 Depok. From the results of the study it can be seen, that the history teacher at the two schools has carried out the learning process using a scientific approach. There is no difference in the selection of learning strategies, both of them use the contextual teaching learning model. The difference between the two is in the selection of learning methods, where the history teacher Dian Didaktika uses the method of learning project base learning and the history teacher of SMA Negeri 2 Depok uses a method of learning outside the classroom by visiting museums.

The Islamiceducation character of elementary school children is very important, as an effort to cultivate the students’ intelligence in thinking, acting and behaving in accordance with the noble values that its’ become the identity, and can be realized in interaction with God, themselves, others and the environment as a manifestation. Schools are a strategic place for appear education character because the children of some circles will be educated at school. In addition, children spend most of their time at school, something they have been gotten in school will be affected the formation of their character. To realize a generation that has a strong character and strong faith and Islam, it is necessary to instill the values of personality to the child. In this case, the role of educator is very important, especially when they were applying the teaching learning process to the students.To instill Islamic character education of elementary school, children need some methods that must be mastered by educators, such as exemplary, habituation, advice, attention (supervision), rewards and punishment. The two very prominent methodologies are GTM and CLT in the education system in teaching & learning English in Bangladesh. To show the importance of the combination of these two phenomenal methods is the purpose of this paper. In Bangladesh GTM is commonly used for a long time, and at present CLT is also a very famous method. In this paper, the two methods are elaborated clearly in effective teaching and learning of English in Bangladesh. The study focuses on GTM and CLT in respects of achieving four skills, accuracy/fluency, teaching-learning process, handling the students’ feelings and emotions, the role of the native language of students, the language skills that are emphasized, and the way of teacher’s response to students’ errors. Though CLT is the more beneficial method nowadays GTM also has some positive things to offer. Based on the data and findings, this paper has also presented some suggestions for effective teaching and learning of English in Bangladesh.

This paper examines the learning process by which farmers come to a decision to use newly introduced seeds which were promoted through demonstration plots in midwestern and eastern regions of Uganda. Framed as social and material interactions, we investigated the learning process of the demonstration plots using data from focus group discussions, interviews and a survey amongst 983 individuals. The results reveal several constraints that impede learning, resulting in an overall low awareness and adoption of the introduced seeds. Some of the most prominent constraints resulted from the selection of location and demonstration plot host, the distance of agro-dealers, at district headquarters, limited interactions amongst farmers and irregular involvement of farmers in the demonstrations. Moreover, the prominent role of agro-dealers at field days suggests that informing farmers about where to buy seeds was considered more important than explaining farmers how to grow these seeds profitably. This commercial focus of field days and demonstrations plots had negative consequences for the social learning. This paper contributes to the learning and adoption literature by showing that interactions amongst actors can improve or reduce the balance between didactic, social and environmental learning.

AI is a branch of computer science that gives the ability to a computer to think and make decisions like humans. It stimulates the human brain in the computer and makes appropriate decisions when required. AI-enabled education impacts the designing of curriculum, mode of instruction, and many more. The use of these tools revolutionizing the education sector with the progression of ICT tools have now become AI-enabled. The main feature of an AI-enabled tool is personalization. These AI-enabled tools work like intelligent assistants for the students. The intelligent system having features like answer the queries of the students, give assistance, support learning, provide or take assignments, and provide reinforcement material according to their opted courses. A teacher has a minimum intervention with this process and has the role of a facilitator only. This chapter concludes that the AI-enabled teaching-learning process can't replace the classroom teaching; instead, it is handy. In the future, AI could replace the need of a teacher in class to some extent.

The introduction and rapid growth of mobile learning applications (m-learning apps) has improved the role of teachers in facilitating the learning process especially among children. The learning experiences of children are enhanced and enriched with the use of m-learning apps for children. There are several m-learning apps developed for children in the market today, however, some of these apps do not succinctly support and adequately assist in the learning process and educational endeavors and quest of these young minds. In this paper, a systematic review of literature was conducted to assess past research and studies on usability dimensions and sub-dimensions utilized in evaluating children’s m-learning apps. The systematic literature review consisted of the following approach: the definition of search strategy, selection of primary studies, data extraction, and implementation of synthesis strategy and lastly, the presentation of findings. The result of the review reveals that effectiveness, efficiency, learnability, and user satisfaction (with their corresponding sub-dimensions) were the top four usability dimensions used in the evaluation of m-learning apps for children. In addition, the works reviewed showed that usability evaluation is prominent only during the implementation phase of the applications’ development.
