Experimental results on the determination of the color temperature in shock waves produced with lasers are presented. The method is based on imaging the target rear side in two different spectral windows and on using phased zone plates to produce high-quality shocks. The shock velocity is also measured, allowing, with the use of the equation of state, the real shock temperature to be deduced and compared with the measured color temperature.

Abstract The density, thermal expansion coefficient, and thermal pressure coefficient for polyisobutylene of mol wt 40,000 have been accurately determined from 0 to 150°. Results are compared with the reduced equation of state employed in the theory of solutions. The characteristic parameters v*, T*, and p* required for the treatment of polyisobutylene solutions are obtained from the experimental results.

This paper aims to answer “why-not” questions in skyline queries based on the orthogonal query range (i.e., ORSQ). These queries retrieve skyline points within a rectangular query range, which improves query efficiency. Answering why-not questions in ORSQ can help users analyze query results and make decisions. We discuss the causes of why-not questions in ORSQ. Then, we outline how to modify the why-not point and the orthogonal query range so that the why-not point is included in the result of the skyline query based on the orthogonal range. When the why-not point is in the orthogonal range, we show how to modify the why-not point and narrow the orthogonal range. We also present how to expand the orthogonal range when the why-not point is not in the orthogonal range. We effectively combine query refinement and data modification techniques to produce meaningful answers. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithms have high-quality explanations for why-not questions in ORSQ in the real and synthetic datasets.

In recent years, the number of forged videos circulating on the Internet has immensely increased. Software and services to create such forgeries have become more and more accessible to the public. In this regard, the risk of malicious use of forged videos has risen. This work proposes an approach based on the Ghost effect knwon from image forensics for detecting forgeries in videos that can replace faces in video sequences or change the mimic of a face. The experimental results show that the proposed approach is able to identify forgery in high-quality encoded video content.

At present, the problem of establishing disability is a point at issue in Russia. Despite the fact that medical criteria for disability are being developed very actively, high-quality methods for assessing social hallmarks are still lacking. Since disability is a phenomenon inherent in any society, each state forms a social and economic policy for people with disabilities in accordance with its level of development, priorities and opportunities. We have proposed a three-stage model, which includes a system for the consistent solution of the main tasks aimed at studying the causes and consequences of the problems encountered today in the social protection of citizens with health problems. The article shows why the existing approaches to the determination of disability and rehabilitation programs do not correspond to the current state of Russian society and why a decrease in the rate of persons recognized as disabled for the first time does not indicate an improvement in the health of the population. The authors proposed a number of measures with a view to correcting the situation according to the results of the study.

Background: Renal stones represent a common urological pathology where standard treatment advised is ESWL in current practice. However, NCCT based determination of stone fragility may help to predict the outcome of ESWL treatment, hence optimizing its clinical use. Therefore, this study evaluated the role of NCCT determined urinary stone fragility in predicting the outcome of ESWL treatment in local clinical settings. Patients and methods: One hundred patients with single renal calculus of 0.6-2 cm in size were included. NCCT based determination of stone fragility in HU units was done for all patients. Patients were then subjected to ESWL, with a maximum of 3000 shock waves given per ESWL session. Plain film and/or ultrasonography was used to monitor ESWL treatment progress with a final NCCT evaluation at 12 weeks to determine the clearance of the calculi for each patient. Association of NCCT based stone fragility and outcome of ESWL was statistically analyzed using Fisher exact test. Results: The mean age of the patients was 37.7 ± 10.9 years with 54% being male. Decreasing stone fragility on NCCT (high = <500HU, moderate = 500-1000HU, and high = 1000HU) required more number and intensity of ESWL sessions (1-2 visits and 3000-6000 shock waves for high stone fragility group, 3-5 visits and 7000-18000 shock waves for the moderate group, and 6 visits and >18000 shock waves for low fragility group, respectively) necessary for clearance of urinary stones (p<0.001). In 98% of patients, the clearance of urinary stones was excellent. Conclusion: Renal stone patients with NCCT determined high and moderate stone fragility show an optimal response after ESWL treatment, whereas, for low fragility renal stones attenuative treatment like percutaneous nephrolithotomy and/or ureteroscopy should be considered instead of ESWL. This approach can enable patient stratification before ESWL therapy ensuring better clinical management of the renal stone disease.

Background: This study was designed to analyze the global research on Lophomonas spp. using bibliometric techniques. Methods: A bibliometric research was carried out using the Scopus database. The analysis unit was the research articles conducted on Lophomonas spp. Results: Totally, 56 articles about Lophomonas spp. were indexed in the Scopus throughout 1933-2019 ( 87 years ) with the following information: (A) The first article was published in 1933; (B) 21 different countries contributed in studies related to Lophomonas spp.; (C) China ranked first with 16 publications about Lophomonas spp.; and (D) “Brugerolle, G” and “Beams, H.W.” from France and the US participated in 4 articles respectively, as the highest number of publications in the Lophomonas spp. network. Discussion: After 87 years, Lophomonas still remains unknown for many researchers and physicians around the world. Further studies with high quality and international collaboration are urgently needed to determine different epidemiological aspects and the real burden of the mysterious parasite worldwide.

The excess entropy of mixing of mixtures of hard spheres and spherocylinders is determined from an equation of state of hard convex bodies. The obtained dependence of excess entropy on composition was used to find the accuracy of determining ΔSE from relations employed for the correlation and prediction of vapour-liquid equilibrium. Simple rules were proposed for establishing the mean parameter of nonsphericity for mixtures of hard bodies of different shapes allowing to describe the P-V-T behaviour of solutions in terms of the equation of state fo pure substance. The determination of ΔSE by means of these rules is discussed.

Accurate determination of piezoelectric properties such as piezoelectric charge coefficients (d33) is an essential step in the design process of sensors and actuators using piezoelectric effect. In this study, a cost-effective and accurate method based on dynamic loading technique was proposed to determine the piezoelectric charge coefficient d33. Finite element analysis (FEA) model was developed in order to estimate d33 and validate the obtained values with experimental results. The experiment was conducted on a piezoelectric disc with a known d33 value. The effect of measuring boundary conditions, substrate material properties and specimen geometry on measured d33 value were conducted. The experimental results reveal that the determined d33 coefficient by this technique is accurate as it falls within the manufactures tolerance specifications of PZT-5A piezoelectric film d33. Further, obtained simulation results on fibre reinforced and particle reinforced piezoelectric composite were found to be similar to those that have been obtained using more advanced techniques. FE-results showed that the measured d33 coefficients depend on measuring boundary condition, piezoelectric film thickness, and substrate material properties. This method was proved to be suitable for determination of d33 coefficient effectively for piezoelectric samples of any arbitrary geometry without compromising on the accuracy of measured d33.
